Regarding the original version of The Wicker Man: The implication by the end of the film is that the community is only a few steps from ruin due to the failure of their crops and they are so desperate to win back the favour of whatever brought them their previous prosperity that they are willing to commit human sacrifice—although the lord of the manor and probably most of the villagers know deep down that their beliefs are as much a lie that they tell themselves to sleep at night as the officer's belligerent and bigoted Catholic piety.

It's legitimately horrific in every respect, because nobody is truly evil but everyone is wrong and nobody is going to gain anything.

I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.

Spooky Mask: Of course Spoony works full-time on videos, but he's not a part of the Channel Awesome universe anymore, so the only full-timers left are Teams Critic, Snob, and Linkara.

I just remembered something.

I recalled watching a Blockbuster Buster video about his favorite voice actors. During it he had a list of honorable mentions for "actors only known for one role". People like Kevin Conroy for Batman.

But then he listed "Steve Blum for Wolverine". ... Seriously? Are we just pretending that 70% of anime dubs from the early 2000's to NOW didn't have Steve Blum? It'd be one thing to not be a fan of anime, but to be so ignorant and claim Blum's only big role is playing Wolverine in various media is just disrespectful.

[up][up]One, if Steven Blum were to be known for only role it would be Spike Spiegel, two saying Steven Blum is known for one role is like saying Tara Strong or Mel Blanc are known for one role. If anything Steve Blum is one of those voice actors whose most notable trait is that he's in everything.

[up][up][up]This isn't the first time we brought this up here, but Erod......... isn't particularly familiar with anime.

To be fair, Steve Blum is Wolverine for me as well, even though I've watched Cowboy Bebop twice (in Japanese, TBH).

You don't even have to look to Anime to find other major, popular roles that Blum's taken... are we forgetting his awesome turns as the Green Goblin, or frickin' Amon? E-Rod just isn't all that keen on examining the things he says before he says them. He's kind of like Doug Walker in that regard, but with none of the comedic skills to make up for it.

[up][up][up] Right? I know I mentioned this before, but it seemed that he totally didn't realize that Carly from Dark of the Moon was named after Carly from the Transformers G1 series.

And he thought the Driller was Shockwave's alt mode when it's actually Shockwave's pet. Though to be fair, he might have done that for the sake of putting in a joke.

Also, while it's probably disrespectful to shove anime down E-Rod's throat, he should probably be more aware of it if he's gonna go around saying Steve Blum is one of his favorite voice actors. Come to think of it, didn't Steve Blum start his VA career in anime?

Ah. So my feelings, based on watching his Jay Ward reviews, that he genuinely has no idea what he's talking about and does no research while relying on fanrage to fuel him, was absolutely correct.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Regarding producers who do videos full-time: Doug, Brad, and Linkara are the only ones I know for sure of; Sage mentioned that he worked somewhere, but it was some time age, so maybe he did switch to full-time; I think Film Brain also makes videos full-time but I believe he still lives with his parents, so I'm not sure if it counts.

Just a person. He/him.

[up][up] When you say Jay Ward, you mean the guy who created Dudley Do-Right and Rocky and Bullwinkle, right?

You mind explaining what exactly did E-Rod disregard or not do the research about when he "busted" those two movies?

The one that sticks out in my mind is claiming that it's out-of-character for Nell to be in love with Horse rather than Dudley, as that was one of the central jokes of her character in the cartoon. Admittedly it's been a while since I watched them but I recall spending a lot of the viewing experience frustrated.

[up] My memory of that specific review (and the cartoon itself) is really hazy, but there was a time where E-Rod didn't realize that something that was in the movie was a legitimate thing in the source material?

Huh. You really do learn something new every day.

I wonder what would happen if you told/bugged him about that particular hiccup on You Tube or wherever he stays in touch with his fans. A part of me is thinking he'll either reply with something along the lines of "Really? Didn't realize that. Sorry about that" or "Dude, f*** you." No offense.

[up][up]I mean, the impression I got from watching those was that he wants to speak to diehard fans, and knows what things enrage them, but doesn't quite get why and isn't really willing to put the effort in. So instead he watches these things and haphazardly guesses at where the deviations are.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Not sure if this belongs here, but how do you think several of the TGWTG members have progressed? Like, I know that Angry Joe started out pretty mediocre, and caused several to make some pretty scathing responses to him:

I feel like the most damning inaccuracy Erod has made is claiming that Shrek 2 gives in to the musical formula that the original Shrek resisted and made fun of. That sort of objectively untrue criticism really gives the impression that he's either intentionally misrepresenting the movie to pad the review, or he didn't re-watch the movie before writing review, and is basing it off half-remembered impressions from years ago.

[up] Really? I thought Shrek 2 just had the parts where Fairy Godmother was singing "I need a hero" and Puss and Donkey singing "Livin' a Vida Loca" and they weren't obnoxious or anything.

Also, revisiting the brief conversation about Teen Titans Go!, I'll admit, not all the episodes are the best. But a side of me wants to think it's capable of Growing the Beard. Surely, at some point, the writers will be having a scenario akin to this:

[up] The scene he specifically cited (and showed a clip of) was the Fairy Godmother's first song, giving the impression that the film is a Disney-style musical, which it definitely isn't. That song is the only musical-style song in the movie, and it's very obviously tongue-in-cheek, with Fiona being completely bewildered by it, and protesting against it.

The most ridiculous thing is that he draws a specific comparison to the Robin Hood song in the first movie, implying that the sequel is playing straight what the first movie parodied. If anything, the Fairy Godmother's song (and her entire character) is an even more vicious parody, because her song actually sounds somewhat like a song you'd hear in a Disney movie, and it's about her basically trying to force the story into becoming a straight fairy tale through shallow, unscrupulous means.

[up] Oh, that song. Shoot, I totally forgot that one.

Man, all this stuff about us pointing out E-Rod's mistakes and factual hiccups are kinda making me think he should be making his own "Top 10 F-Ups" videos at some point.

And yeah, I know E-Rod mentioned in his "Top 10 WTF Moments I Missed" video that he didn't want to do those because that was The Nostalgia Critic's thing, but NC isn't doing those anymore, is he? So E-Rod doesn't really have that much of a reason to not do his own series of "Top 10 F-Ups". And maybe with his own version of Douchey McNitpick too. How does "Douch E-Rod" sound like as a name for an obnoxious nitpicker?
