well.

after about a year since i last fought a zinogre

fighting 2 high rank zinogre's back to back was...

draining.

i died twice within the first 10 minutes of the first one. ran out of healing items about 1/3 of the way through the 2nd one, had to just run off to bed whenever i wanted to heal.

and i didnt even get enough materials to make anything from it, so i have to do it again ;-;

but at least i've figured out their behavior again.

You remind me of when I did the double Tigrex urgent back in Freedom Unite. It was very tough, but I made it somehow. Never had to do it again, though. [lol]

oh. huh.

2nd run of that mission, went on to a 3rd zinogre pretty easily

was very confused by just how passive it was. i wailed on it almost without contest for a good while, it wouldnt charge up for a long time, and when it did it still wasnt particularly aggressive, and it fell over on its back about 3 times more than any of the last 4.

i think he'd just sort of...given up on life.

anyway, needed to end the mission after that. Sn S is a nice weapon but, i need something that can cut tails and more easily break parts.

rathalos can go eat a bag of dicks.

wasted time for 50 minutes before spamming the bullshit lock-on air charge n trample move

i got locked into an endless cycle of get hit, get up, be stunned, heal, get hit, get up, be stunned, heal, get hit

Quick question.

Playing the MHW beta made me hungry for more of this seriesnote , and I was wondering which of the 3DS games that World borrows from the most. From what I've read, Monster Hunter Generations is flashier due to something called "Styles", but MH 4 U plays more traditionally, but I'm just looking for whichever one that's most similar to World (as well as being accessible to MH newbies) while waiting for World's official release. I was originally planning on getting 4U because it's cheaper, but I don't know if Generations is the better game to prepare me for World.

World is a huge step from 4U and Generations. It's the largest change in the series yet, so if you're looking for something close to World you're really not going to find it, despite base gameplay being largely similar.

That said, 4U is probably what you're looking for. Generations is a celebration of the series, so if you're not a longtime fan or already adjusted to the series, you're going to be sorely left out on a lot of gags, references, and jokes. Not to mention you'll be very very lost.

4U does a much better job at acclimating new players. It's also the overall better game- it's much better aesthetically and doesn't have nearly as many irrelevant quests to bog you down before you get to the cool stuff.

Generations is certainly flashier- but it also teaches really bad habits to new players because of the styles.

Just play 4U. Even my group of friends, who are mostly veterans to the series, couldn't find much positive to say about Generations- we didn't even bother finishing out high rank due to the sheer number of mostly repetitive quests we had to do for little reward besides fighting more of the same few monsters.

[up]this. Just this. It's really weird when you look at the numbers, cause there isn't that much more fetch quests in generations compared to 4u, but they're so much more spread out you feel you never get off the tutorial part where you get to acclimate yourself to the game/the rank.

Am i the onyl one to have found generations itself absurdly easy, btw ? I know I played the game shortly after farming lvl140 guild quests of 4u so i'm worried i'm just biased against it, but less than five minutes to kill a plesioth can't be right.

[up][up]4U it is then. Thanks for the quick answer, it was just what I was looking for.

[up][up]It's just you. G-Rank is a major step up from Low Rank, but the skill climb to get there is so subtle that you probably didn't even notice how good you got. I remember specifically in 4U that I used to have some trouble with High Rank quests early on... but way later after I had cleared out G Rank quests with my friends I found that I could solo High Rank quests with no armor on.

The fact that you found it so easy is a testament to your developed skills- after all, G Rank (and Level 140 Guild Quests) force you to hone your ability to play the game if you want to succeed. Meanwhile Generations only gets up to High Rank (and we never got XX to explore G Rank....) and it only kinda gets back to G Rank level difficulty at the highest level deviant quests.

It's something I really appreciate about the series. When you can look at how far you've come as a player just as much as a character in the game with snazzy armor and cool skills.

[up]No problem! I hope you enjoy 4U, it's just one of my favorite games period.

[up]To be clear, 4U wasn't my first monster hunter neither - I did soloed every single quest of 3ds 3U beforehand, including things like A-ranking arena quests and killing hallowed jhen mohran, or soloing Event-quest Starved Jho, so, almost as far as you can ever get for that game before optimizing monsters or speedrunning, only missing stuff like G-rank event alatreon. But when I picked up 4U at the time, while low and high ranks sure were easy, monsters were at least resilient enough to put up a fighr. I generally was taking five to ten minutes to clear quests from the village with appropriate gear. When I picked up generations, I found myself often killing monsters of similar ranks with similar gear before hitting the 5 minutes time mark.

I can buy that I got better since 3U (who was apparently made to be soloable) with another 400 hours sinked in 4U, It just that it striked me as honestly too easily. And even after all the time spent in 4U, I still wasn't good enough to solo the G alatreon of 3U, so the skill gap didn't struck me as particularly large.

There was four times (maybe five when I saw what they did to the lagiacrus's moveset) I had fun in generations, and the four times were when I tried and killed the flagship monsters in the quests that introduces them and have something like quintupled life to motivate you to run away from them. Gammoth almost got me a timeout, but the astalos an mizutsune went down in twenty minutes.

Now if I really am alone to think that, well it's probably just me then and I need to drop that pet peeve with that game. Maybe the fighting arts helps with the DPS too. And I might also have stopped just before the fun begins - We hand't started doing deviant monsters aside from a quick laugh at crimson arzuros aka "Yeah do that Brimstone Blade art where you hyper armor through my attacks; puny hunter, I'm gonna burst through your whole lifebar with a 3 hit combo" when I left to do something else and neve came back.

I'd really like a port of XX one day so I can get another shot at this game.

I found Generations to be a whole lot of fun. I liked the new Elder Dragon Nakarkos, getting to fight Amatsu, and being able to fight Alatreon with the power of mounting. Some of the Deviants are pretty fun to fight as well, though some are a tad bit more infuriating than others (looking at you, Hellblade Glavenus).

Yeah, getting back at Alatreon and seeing amatsu in action were some of the things I was really looking forward too, but my mtoviation ended up not lasting through the whole high rank - I know i'm the guy who do every single non event available quest before moving on to the next rank, but dammit WHY did they had to put so many fetch/kill lesser ennemies quest on every single rank ?

Oh

I did forget to mention that virtually every weapon got a buff outside of charge blade, which got nerfed

So you do indeed kill things faster in Generations- especially with certain styles that have ridiculous DPS (usually with Striker or Adept styles).

is it...actually possible to cut off the azure rathalos' tail?

every time i strike the tail my longsword bounces off it. the difficulty in cutting it off is alarming considering at least one piece of the armor set requires 3 tails.

[up]Sorry, I don't recall what sharpness is needed to cut the Azure Rathalos's tail since I've been using equipment with skills that prevent attacks from bouncing off. Perhaps try attacking different parts of the tail and see if there's a place where it doesn't bounce off?

I've never played an MH game, but I'd say a game close to World is Dragon's Dogma. The immediate impression I got while playing the beta was how much it reminded me of a boss rush version of DD. Not being able to immediately climb the monster was irritating though.

You definitely can cut the azure los's tail. Don't remember how sharpened your blade needs to be.

managed to cut it off this time, blue seems to be the required sharpness.

only got a scale for the colossal amount of trouble i went through tho

Any idea if the beta on the 22nd will be the same game file as the previous one, or is a new download?
