@DYRE: They're probably saying that only because they weren't shown post-reincarnation/ascension. I will call BS on that as well.
My Twitter. Mostly tweeting about Magic, sometimes anime. Needs Wiki MagicThat's what I figured. Especially since it's not stated in an episode and it's way too soon for there to be, like, an interview or something about it. I was just making sure.
Overall analysi
Most disappointing show of the season. Not the WORST (not by far) but the one that failed to live up to expectations. (in many ways the opposite of B Gata H Kei)
The story itself was... Not very interesting, a lot of elements felt tacked on mostly because of (it seems) merchandizing potential. Plot elements were telegraphed, and it felt way too... Fabricated and artifical.
That said, the animation was good (probably better than it strictl speaking needed) and the music was good.
Still, it's a forgettable show I won't be recommending to anyone. It had an intriguing premie but went nowhere with it, wasting several episodes on what felt like pointless sidetracks.
Thumbs down from me.
"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy EntI'm going with what was said earlier. Otonashi had no memories. He had was a lost soul wondering around. It was when Tenshi died that his soul wandered into that "realm/area" of the afterlife.
Also the whole Tenshi+Otonashi ship has been teased all along. Otonashi most likely felt that way about Tenshi for a while but never confessed till now. I mean the whole plot line with the clones and how he hugged her and them staied by her side for the whole time she was asleep.. ya.
My Soul... Your Beats. OH I GET IT NOW.
And I guess I'm easily impressed. I really enjoyed the final episode of Angel Beats!, and while on the whole, I felt the anime was kind of disappointing with it's major pacing issues (as I feel the show would of been far better if it were 24 episodes) but I personally think with how the shoved all the plot relevant details to the back, this was really the best they could work with. It still doesn't topple episode 9 in it's Tear Jerkery, but overall I really liked it.
Edit:
In the process of grabbing that from a 1280p raw, I found this little gem that shows us Otonashi's soul as it left the school◊. KEY seems to like Light Orbs for this sort of thing.

My FF.net account^ Thank you very much! I haz a new background on my computer.
They easily could have made it a 24-episode series (or longer), the thing is that it would have ended up being more or less a procedural, as they spend an episode with each background character getting their own focus episode and being able to move on. This might be better or worse. I think it's truly a YMMV.
For the space that they had, they did a good job.

I...I was so moved I CAN'T CRY. I'm just in a state of pure, catatonic '...' from the incredible amount of heartwarming here.
... BAWWWWW I'M GONNA MISS YOU ALL, CAST OF ANGEL BEATS
~PirkaIt's a Downer Ending all right, with a silver lining attached:
Although the SSS has moved onto other lives, their tightly knit Nakama will never materialize again, with the silver lining being Kanade and Yuzuru meeting again in the next life, brought together by Iwasawa's last song.
My FF.net account^ Yui and Hinata will also meet again.
They must.

De gustibus non est disputandum.Indeed, they must. It was a promise, after all.
Fridge Brilliance: In Episode 9, this conversation takes place:
Kanade: I'm sure that person will say "thank you" to you for the rest of their life.
And As You Know, Kanade was the recipient of Yuzuru's heart, and her not being able to thank him was the only reason she was in "Purgatory" to begin with.
Wow.

My FF.net accountI even got choked up for freaking Naoi. God damn you, Jun Maeda ;____;
-is afraid to watch Clannad for fear it will destroy him utterly-
I promise that Clannad will destroy you, especially the second season.
Clannad isn't my favorite fictional work of all time for no reason, after all.
The Visual Novel is pretty damn good (and hard to clear completely!) as well.
My FF.net accountI find it intersting: I consider myself pretty accepting of sappy emotional stuff, but this particular style just rings totally false for me: It's the same with all of them I tried. (Although I didn't even finish Clannad)
I can't even appreciate it for te trainwreck quality, like say, Hadashi De Bara Wo Fume.
"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy EntThis torrent has four remixes of songs from the OST:
- My Song, this time starring both Iwasawa & Yui
- Brave Song, starring both the original singer (Aoi Tada) & Girl's Dead Monster
- Two versions of My Soul Your Beats!; one version mixing the rock and piano version with both Lia and Yui (Li SA) at the vocals, the other cutting out the piano still with both Lia and Yui at the vocals
(Skipping previous posts except the two above) Just finished. Oh man, great series imo. Ending was not as tearjerking as I expected. But then I listened to this while imagining the scene at the same time.
I dunno, I have sort of an attachment to that song.
Just finished binging the show. Overall, not that good, watchable but overall quite bland. It had some high points certainly (ep. 9, tears were shed ;_;, ep. 12 was one big CMOA).
It had an interesting premise, but the execution was botched and it put too much emphasis on the wrong things. When it was more serious, it was quite good but too often it dwelled in light heartedness and unfunny comedy. The characters were, for the most part, fairly flat and unimaginative. One or two ticks/gimmicks and that's it (TK was marvellous, but outside the main cast, he's the only one). “Fighting in the shadows”, hah hah.
The big three reminded me a bit too much about Haruhi (especially Yu- Kaede). Fights were a bit lacking and fairly infrequent. Still was moderately entertaining most of the time and had some pretty high points on occasion when it was more serious-like.
Wasted potential is how I'd describe it. Kind of how I feel about Rozen Maiden too.
"I forgot to recreate the glasses" ... And the fandom weptI really didn't like Rozen Maiden at all. I was binging too btw. TK made me laugh several times but I didn't have any problems with the other characters either. Maybe it would've worked better as a 24 episode anime to give them all some more focus but it was decent as is as well. Yuri and Kanade reminded me of Haruhi and Yuki obviously, but not so much with Yuzuru (Otonoshi).
And apparantly the guns that the characters carry are real guns 0_o.
I recognized some of the guns. It was a nice touch.
Yeah, Uzuru wasn't so much Kyon as he was just a general audience surrogate in my mind. It would have been better to give all the other characters more focus. They were left so undeveloped.
"I forgot to recreate the glasses" ... And the fandom weptHAY GUYS!!
The funniest response would be an image showing an angel about to give the perspective-person a beating.

That's sort of opposite from how I felt about it. The humour had me cracking up, but the serious bits were so overblown I couldn't take it seriously.
I really hope that's BS. It wouldn't even make any sense if it were true.
Edit: It seems like it'd be way too early for them to have done an interview or something concerning the ending of the last episode anyway.

I guess it is.
