Do Star spells have that much higher base power?
Kind of. They don't hit elemental properties resistances and do have higher base power, but Star spells also cost more SP to cast and are affected by RES just like any other INT-based attack in the game. So elemental spell's aren't completely worthless if you need to deal extra damage to a boss's flunkies.
I've been playing Disgaea PC lately and I miss being able to throw diagonally SO MUCH. Among other things. I really hope 5 makes it to PC eventually - the march through the series ought to be long enough for the PS 5 exclusivity to count for something.
Disgaea 1 had diagonal throws but the way to do it was very stupid. It's more a hidden thing they expect you to stumble on.

That's true, the way to do diagonal throws in every Disgaea game until 5 was rather dumb.

Disgaea D2 is when they fixed it, if I remember right.
Oh? I never played D2 because Nippon Ichi are being lazy and not porting it to either Vita or PC yet. A PC port would be more likely since the Vita's lifespan is running dry.
Yep. DD 2 also gave us the Cheat Shop, which I hope stuck around for 5.
It did, the Cheat Shop. It's in 5 as well as the Vita Port of Disgaea 4.
Beat #1's story and moved on to #2 (the PSP version). I missed being able to jump in the hub world. It's oddly satisfying.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Land of Carnage/Carnage Dimension is also introduced in Disgaea 2, I think. I know 2 was the first Disgaea to have evilities in the form of class abilites (i.e, Ronin can instantly kill enemies with normal attacks if their health {the Ronin's health} is 25% or lower, Mages/Witches use less SP in thier spells, etc.)

PSP version also has an unlockable magichange feature, I think? That might be post game only.
It's unlocked in Axel Mode, which through use of a code can be unlocked without New Game Plus
Which means it'll probably be in the PC version, too! Good show!
Demon Lord Etna, level 1000. Adell is level 9. I totally stand a chance. Good show.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! You'd get a bad ending if you won anyway.
Though not a bad bad ending, unlike one that occurs later one.
So I finally got around to beating the main story of Disgaea 5 last night...
Does anyone else feel that the final boss in this game is way too easy? I was down to Christo and Erynger Z and simply had the latter hit the boss and Christo on healing duty as they kept repositioning so the boss's one skill wouldn't be able to hit both at once, taking breaks in attacks to restore Erynger's MP with items. There wasn't even an Overload to worry about.
Coming off Disgaea D2's final boss, and even in comparison to 1 and 4 (I never bothered finishing 2 or 3), that was too simple. I should not have been able to do that.
There seems to be a consensus that Disgaea D2's boss was a little overboard, particularly as you get an ending for dying against him. Maybe Nippon Ichi is overcorrecting.
Yeah, that was my thought too.
Though, honestly, D2 would have been completely fine by me if I could lose, keep the EXP and go straight to the fight again like the rest of the game. My problem wasn't just that I had to close the game if I thought I was gonna lose, it was also that I had to redo the previous map, which was an annoyance.
I presume that if they were to do an updated port of D2, they would give an option to return to base instead of seeing the ending there.

Gotta save the best for last. Carnage Final Boss with 99,999,999 across the board.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!90% of people do not finish any given game (according to actual data). Of those, I presume 99% won't bother with the post-game content.
I know I won't. I used to do post-game story stuff only, but the required levels quickly became ridiculous so I stopped. I have more than enough other unfinished games.
So I would argue whatever absurd post-game boss exists is irrelevant.

In the first game, I got as far as defeating Baal (using the send-expendable-units-to-lift-him-at-the-end-of-the-player-phase tactic). Then, I saw Prinny Baal and decided that he wasn't worth the effort I would have to expend.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.It's funny how he's stronger as a Prinny of all things.
Baal is actually a super-powerful Prinny, and his Overlord form is merely a shell that he creates to be more intimidating to others, at the cost of some of his power.
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!
Yeah, after getting Star magic there's little incentive to bother with elemental stuff.
