I wouldn't be surprised if they just put it right after 1 and pretend that all the other games just didn't happen though. Too much continuity to juggle.

I was primarily referring to her behavior in those games, which could still be explained away by her technically still being FA!Flonne at heart. As further evidenced by the Netherbattle scenario where she intends to use the next sum of funds Artina collects for her with the intention to fix up the Netherworld... on a battleship. (Not to mention recent official art still likes to show her as her fallen self on occasion, even with the rest of the newer Disgaea characters)

Her appearing as a fallen angel here could very well just be her using up her vacation^* who's to say that isn't a thing in this series' universe? I mean, come on. to hang out with Laharl again.

I'm surprised you guys are still missing the big picture but Laharal has pants!

Alright being serious now, but if I would fathom a guess I think the game may explain how Flonne got into position of Arch Angel. That's the only plot thread I think that really needs covering. It's amazing how Disgaea ties all their plot threads and leaves very little hanging.

That would be cool I guess.

Also, Laharl having pants is strange. Strange and alien. Next they are going to give him a shirt.

And then I'll be...mildly disappointed.

Behavior has nothing to do with rank. By that logic, we could say that Laharl is a Overlord in name only sense most of his cameos ignore the character development he got in the original game.

Anyway, promotion or no, Flonne isn't going to just forget her friends, right? And she always was a bit...strange.

Asagi, Axel and Kurtis are likely who do you think the others will be.

Asagi has cameoed in near every NIS game since her first appearance in Makai Kingdom. Except for the D1 remakes. It's time for Laharl and pals to meet her.

Zetta is probably another shoe in.

I wouldn't be surprised if the heroes of the other games also got in, as contrived as it would be to fit some of them in.

...Okay, I'll admit that my use of that specific wikiword may have been a little confusing. What I'm trying to say is that since Flonne is still quite evidently a fallen angel by default (as can be seen by her more self-absorbed portrayal in pretty much every appearance she made after D1, even with her Archangel debut in D4), there's no reason that she'd have to be re-demoted again just to retain her fallen angel appearance, sans a change in eye contacts.

And no, I'm not implying that she would just ignore Laharl and Etna just so she can keep her fancy position and giant mech funding. However, her going out of her way to get booted out of Celestia just so she can be able to actively travel with them again would be even sillier, Flanderization or no.

Kurtis would be more likely to be apart of the main story if he's in there at all, considering he was a sizable part of the first game to begin with. I'd rather Prier (maybe a human alternate as well? Just being idealistic here) and, to a lesser extent, Marjorly appear as in-game unlockables again. Maybe Gig too, as it would be nice to see some genuine interaction between him and Laharl.

In fact, didn't I say if that was the case, it would make the minor subplot about her becoming a angel again and later Archangel kinda pointless?

Of course, I am unsure if she can change between Angel and Fallen Angel at will. If she can, we have no problem. She just went fallen angel and took a vacation. (Of course, this thing could be set before she even became an angel again. We have no idea when Disgaea 4 is in comparison to the previous 3)

Could be. It could be from an alternate universe where there was a Disgaea Dimension 1

I was thinking more along the lines of the universe comprising the 4 games we know is "Dimension 1".

That's an interesting thought. How do you tell the dimensions apart? Check to see if Laharl has pants.

On a somewhat serious note, if that is what they're doing, I can't wait for the vastly improved Disgaea 2 Dimension 2.

Of course, we all know the series won't reach it's full potential until Disgaea 4 Dimension 2.

But that'll only be available on -system I don't own- so I'll just have to stick with D2D2.

You know, wanting to return to the series's roots and the original cast for the anniversary game isn't a bad idea.

So OK. I'm down.

Plus, well, Disgaea one had my favorite cast...

Hopefully, since a whole new story is being built around them, we'll actually see more sides to them than we get to in cameos and spinoffs. Etna's (sporadic) compassion, Flonne's resolve and Laharl's honor shall shine again!

Ha. Yeah, right. They'll probably just rehash their original personalities with the excuse that since it's AU they don't have to assume any character development took place.

That would qualify as a legitimate concern if it weren't for the fact that we don't know if it's AU in the first place.

Clearly, this will be the game that explains why they still act so childishly and Laharl's character development didn't stick.

I just pictured and endgame over-dramatic cutscene with the characters questioning their original character development thanks to you.
