The only thing crossbows were good for was ensuring that fliers died a horrible death.
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.Yes give me more crossbow units.
Mileena MadnessIn honor of Mother's day, who is your favorite Fire Emblem mom?
Mine is still Female Robin. Both of them. I started the series with Fire Emblem on GBA, but Awakening is the first I've beaten, so Grima does have a special spot.
I always found Mother Grima and Daughter Lucina to be such a compelling tragedy of Awakening.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Crossbows are also pretty hilarious when comboed with Beastfoe or Dragonfoe. Or giving it to Shinon with Corrosion/Disarm and Adept. Enemy weapons go, "Bye, bye!"
That said, Path of Radiance doesn't have crossbows. One thing to keep in mind is that fliers can't stop on the tiles containing the sides of the boat. So there are few tiles there where you can tuck squishies, like healers, in, with your tankier units directly above and below. A well-fed Marcia can also fly out and kill half of the enemies, which can also relieve the pressure on the rest of the team. Another option is to just undeploy units who are too vulnerable.
EDIT: As to the mothers thing, I'm partial to F!Robin as well. Probably the best execution in the main series. If we include spin-off games, I'm also partial to FEH's Henriette.

FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiBit of a technicality, but Tiki in Awakening for Nah. I really like how calm and authoritative she is.
Eleonora's surviving mom genes were so strong her son inherited those and managed to escape the FE dad curse in the process.
INT is knowing a tomato is a fruit. WIS is knowing it doesn't belong in a fruit salad. CHA is convincing people that it does. For best mom in the series, I'd go with Lissa.
Diamont and Alcryst's mother gets smartest mother, for surviving the game by hiding from the plot in a secret bunker.
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut. The remainder of Genealogy Chapter 9: a.k.a. where FE6 got the idea to spam siege from.
FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiQueen Yelena from the original Fire Emblem Warriors deserves some credit for tripping every death flag in the game yet somehow crawling to the ending alive and well against all expectations.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! No.
Why would they do that.
Reminds me that I just learned the signature on the "Signed Baseball" item in Fallout was from Club Penguin.
Club Penguin brings back a lot of memories.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.I just rencountered that, though a scrappy mechanic, breakable weapons balance things out. I just plowed through multiple maps with a single unit (my avatar of course) with minimal frustration. Add your avatar having access to your items in storage too.
Being on the lowest difficulty will only allow me to continue this carnage. I feel very empty right now.

Knee deep in the bodies of your enemies and yet your soul is unfulfilled. Your fire has gone out and your blood runs cold for lack of worthy foes.
Ashnard approves. The slaughter needs to have more struggle to be truly satisfying, unless victory proves your absolute superiority over the enemy, then it is temporary.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. Here’s hoping the next play through on a harder difficulty will prove sufficient. Don’t spoil Engage, I haven’t finished it yet.
That's just kind of the nature of Fire Emblem's core mechanics. When you have infinite counterattacks, and no penalty for taking on twenty dudes in one Enemy Phase, the logical conclusion is to create one character with all the stats and have yourself a jolly old massacre. Most Hards and Lunatic/Maddening modes don't do much to stop this either. They just delay the inevitable by making the "all the stats" part take a bit longer to achieve. That's why I'll always advocate for Lunatic+ above all else: it takes pains that succeed in derailing singular juggernauting using something that isn't just "Moar stats!"™.
FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiThe most obvious downside to that problem is that using just a single character is very boring. Though, it's obvious the many players would consider that a huge flaw.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.Yeah, and the easiest solution is probably something that isn't really open to the series. Which is to say: modify the core mechanics so that you don't have infinite counterattacks. Or you suffer some kind of very aggressive stat penalty for taking more than a couple combats. Once they start doing that, it runs into, "Isn't this just a different game, but with the Fire Emblem name?" territory, which is very not great for marketing.
FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiHey, KTT - or anybody else who wants to chime in - I'm thinking about starting a new file on Awakening for Lunatic+. What would y'all recommend for Robin's boon and bane?
(If it helps, I'm planning on marrying Sumia.)
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.I usually go with +Spd/-Skl, myself. Doubling to kill the enemies with tomes is a huge advantage, and +Spd will get you there the fastest. -Skl is barely worse than -Lck for Hit, but keeps Robin's Dodge/Crit Avoid intact when a lot of enemies have fairly high base Crit (and that's before taking into account the random Gamble/Zeal that can appear).
Some other good alternatives:
- +Mag - because Robin really wants to be doubling with tomes for the one-round, they also want good Mag. It also very slightly boost Spd growth. Two extra base Mag is arguably less valuable than two extra base Spd, though, since forges can boost Mt, but not Spd.
- +Def - this can be useful if you're feeling uncertain about how you're going to approach maps. With a Fred pair, this can make non-Luna+ enemies significantly less threatening. Carries a major downside of being little better than +Spd/+Mag against Luna+, with nothing else to show for it.
- -Lck - the only other bane I'd really recommend. It's got slightly better Hit than -Skl, but you're going to give Mercs and Archers listed Crit against you. Also, the Prologue Elthunder Mage, any C1 Fighters who randomize Zeal, and any C2 Barbs who randomize Gamble, are going to be very spooky.
I guess Robin doesn't want -Strength because they sometimes need to go into non-magic classes for skills?
That would be the main general reason, yeah. It's one of those banes that would probably be workable if you know exactly what you're doing, and route a suitable magic-only class path, though. Something like Tact > Dark Mage > Sorc > Dark Flier > Sage > Dark Knight might work. Or could cut out Sage to get to Lifetaker in a reasonable amount of time. This would only really work with F!Robin because with M!Robin, I'd want to dip Hero in Dark Flier's place, since Sol is kind of your best survival tool if you don't have Galeforce.
One other thing to keep in mind: the Str growth loss trickles down to Morgan and whichever other kid, who, more often than not, want to do physical combat over magical (ending classes of Warrior for M!Morgan; and Bow Knight or Assassin for F!Morgan).
FE: Genealogy Story Run 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Expert Unicorn Overlord 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiSeems like melee Robbin in general is kinda redundant, with how many knights and mounted units you get for most of the first gen. I watched a friend play through her first FE in Awakening, and she did fine as a Dark Mage.
flying enemies always suck
