Don't forget to steal his Hero Crest, either.
Only the sun has stopped.I killed him six seconds before reading that.
I'm kinda disappointed class change is so one-note in Fire Emblem. Langrisser had a much, much more in depth class change system. Are there any Fire Emblem games that at least give you multiple choices of classes to promote into?

Bleye knows Sabers.Sacred Stones and the not yet released in English, Awakening.
Every game from Shadow Dragon on also allows you to reclass most characters.

So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonI disagree with that idea. The beauty of Fire Emblem is its incredible depth with very simple mechanics.
I do support the class branching from Sacred Stones and especially the limited class changes in Awakening, though.
I sure said that!Well yeah, branching classes are great, as is reclassing (when there are appropriate limitations on it). While I don't know much about this Langrisser thing, a quick glance at it's page makes it seem complex for complexity's sake.
Langrisser was deep while still being simple. Every time you hit level 10 you chose one of two new classes to go into, and they would branch out too. Depending on what classes you chose before even two characters who took different routes to the same class would have slightly different stats, troops and spell selections which gave a lot of flexibility while still being straightforward.
God I miss Langrisser.
Anyways, if Sacred Stones has branches that's one more reason to get it.

Bleye knows Sabers.Sacred Stones also has three Trainee class characters. They automatically promote at the beginning of the next map once they reach level 10.
- A Journeyman (Axe) who can promote to Pirate or Fighter, with the Pirate given the option of Berserker and Warrior and the Fighter the options of Warrior and Hero.
- A Recruit (Lance) who can promote to Cavalier or Knight, and from there to Paladin or Great Knight from Cavalier, with Knight giving her General or Great Knight.
- A Pupil (Anima) who can promote to Mage or Shaman and from there to Sage or Mage Knight from Mage or Druid or Summoner from Shaman.
The classes are a little different too. Sages now can use Light Magic, Druids can use Anima magic, Generals get the full weapon triangle, Paladins lose Axes, but the new Great Knight class which is mounted but with less movement also gets the full weapon triangle, the Valkyrie can only use Light Magic and Staves and the new Mage Knight gets Anima and Staves.

So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonAnother new class would be the Summoner, a possible promotion from Shaman that can create Cannon Fodder.
Never heard of Langrisser. Especially surprising given how cross-linked everything here tends to be. I must research this...

Only the sun has stopped.Der Langrisser has a fan translation you can get pre-installed at Vimm's lair no problem, just be sure to use SNESGT and not ZSNES.
It is very, very good. Just be sure to go for the imperial path. It's an incredibly unique experience playing as the "Bad guys" for once.
Meh to you too!

Bleye knows Sabers.I feel like Ursula isn't really evil, she's just listening to the wrong people.

So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonUnless I'm mistaken, Ursula is Black Fang, not one of Nergal's people. So working for Sonia is a matter of where she was assigned, not where her loyalties actually lie.
You don't say.
"It will be as you say, Lady Sonia. Anything for you."
And this is just after seeing Lyn and Florina's A support. See, I blow little hints out of proportion constantly but this game is still giving me more to work with than I thought it would.
Why did anyone think a group of shadowy assassins was ever a good idea anyways? That would never work.

Bleye knows Sabers.A bit late, but Battle For Wesnoth also has branched (for some classes) promotion. Of course, it's not nearly as character focused, but it's free if you want to give it a crack. Also, the PSP Valkyria Chronicles installments give you branching promotion. Back to Fire Emblem, Path Of Radiance does give SOME options on promotion (what new weapon type you want to give to your Paladins upon promotion and Staves vs Knives for Sages (hint: you always want staves)). But yeah, Sacred Stones had an awesome promotion system, though for some characters, one choice is clearly superior.
Hmm... I wonder if that translated Langrisser will run on bsnes. My options for Linux SNES emulation seem to be that and zsnes.

Nope.
The series in general is pretty good about avoiding Stripperific designs for classes that don't have weaker Defense, which is nice. About the only real exception is the near-universal fondness for miniskirts and thighhigh boots the the Pegasus riding classes have.

I sure said that!Apparently Awakening is throwing that out the window.
The realistic armors are pretty refreshing honestly. One look at your average MMO will show you how @$%&ing tired the Chainmail Bikini has gotten. It's not special anymore so I can't even fetishize it.
Bleye knows Sabers....No, not really. He specified low defence, which Dark Mages definitely have.
Well, there's Serge's armour, which only defends 50% of her. And Nono's artfully placed rags.
Heart of StoneWell, Serg is one of those bizarre cases where you'd never know her armour is like that if you only played the game.
And Nono turns into a giant dragon in battle. She has no business getting attacked in her human form.
It doesn't excuse her dressing like that, especially since she has the body and mentality of a nine year old.
Heart of Stone
Stupid Wyverns flying out of nowhere to one shot my troubadour. Stupid Oleg and his stupid bow hitting my pegasus knights. -Grumble-
Bleye knows Sabers.
