I don't believe that ends justify means. I also don't think that Alvis was particularly concerned with justice until after he got what he wanted. You can see this in how his stated goal was well on its way to completion through Sigurd's efforts, and then he decided to go ahead and barbacue the entire army before taking credit.

He earned every bit of what he got. Save your pity for the people who didn't.

He was always concerned with making a better world. Sigurd's actions weren't making a btter world. His intention was to get rid of prejudice. Sigurd's actions weren't helping this. Not when Sigurd's goals would have ultimately led to conflict between him and Arvis after the whole Deirdre thing. Arivs wasn't aware of who she was for a long time.

Arvis didn't take credit for anything. It was his doing in the first place. Sigurd's 'actions' were merely reactions to Arvis and Manfroy's actions.

The ends don't justify the means? Tell that to the ordinary peopl who were leading a much better life under Arvis' rule for several years.

Care to name any concrete examples? Because his wants mean little to the kids Hilda hunted or the barbecued remains of Sigurd's army and the children left orphaned.

That was after power had been wrested from Arvis, actually. It's an explicit thing that Arvis mentions during the second generation that he had been forcibly ousted from power by his son after he obtained the Loptyr tome, and that Arvis even tried to destroy Julius when he realized what had happened but failed. The intermission between generations explains what Arvis had succeeded at before Julius's rise.

Pulse does have a solid point about contextual conflicts between the game and the story since while we are told that Arvis made a very good empire for a time, we are then immediately told how it all fell apart and how horrible things had gotten, and we only really know that for a few years it wasn't this shitty. It's hard to really imagine how good things were when we are immediately shown that things are really shitty and experience the situations firsthand right afterward. Still, Arvis isn't really to blame for that given he didn't know he was helping conceive the dragon antichrist. He's most definitely ruthless and something of a dick, but he was not an evil person in the grand scheme of things.

@RJW: This is mostly in response to your description of Sigurd's actions. I would disagree with the idea that Arvis wasn't taking credit for certain things or using Sigurd to his own ends. Manfroy was the only real manipulator in the beginning, provoking Sigurd through Verdane's invasion and then using Chagall to further ignite things in Agustria when the situation with the other nobles panned out (though Agustria was mostly the fault of the nobles, since they were just being dicks in general).

So, I have a Fates question regarding the use of Marriage Seals and the logbook.

Could I, over many playthroughs, eventually get nearly every skill onto a single character?

Let's use Gunter for example. His base classes are Cavalier, Mercenary, and Wyvern Rider. If I marry him as a female Kamui, and my secondary class is, say, Ninja, then I can use a Marriage Seal on Gunter to reclass him to Ninja and its promotions, have him amass all the skills from those classes, then save him to the logbook. Then on a different file, have my Gunter buy all those Ninja-exclusive skills from his logbook counterpart, this time marry him and reclass him to Rod Knight, save him to the logbook with both the Ninja and Rod Knight skills, and keep doing that until the logbook Gunter has amassed every single skill barring gender/character-exclusive ones? And then purchase all of those onto, say, my main file's Gunter?

I mean, it'd take an eternity to do that for EVERY character, but I'm just wondering.

Say what you will about the face-petting mechanic in Fates, but the 3D models it provides does lead to some... interesting stuff.

On a related note, the resemblance is uncanny.

Finally watched that.

Entertaining, I've got to admit.

Anyway, As of this post, Stahl is married to Panne, and Vaike to Sully. Just started Supporting Donnel with Nowi, which just leaves Gaius and Tharja, and Henry and Lissa for the pairings I've chosen so far.

All that's left is Maribelle, Cordelia, And Miriel for pairing, since I plan to put Virion with Cherche.

Any suggestions on husbands for them?

Frederick is with Sumia, and my female avatar went with Kellam so he won't be forgotten by history. And Chrom will be with Olivia.

Things have been going well.

Marry Maribelle with someone with good magic, she's so magic-based that I can't see Brady working out any other way.

Maybe Ricken. (Also because I always shipped Maribelle x Ricken since day one. <3)

Perhaps functionally, but there's a couple of good fathers based on the lore. Such as Frederick, Vaike, or Lon'Qu.

I ship Frederick x Cherche, but I adore Frederick as Gerome's father for whatever reason.

So I always marry those two.

Vaike will absolutely make Brady a very good War Monk, at the least.

I sure said that!

Alright, I'll keep that in mind for my next run, Pulsister.

Especially since that'll totally make him look more like Kanji.

I swear Brady must be an expy of him.

I had Vaike as Brady's father last time, and I made Frederick Sumia's dad this time.

Guess I'll put her with Ricken then. At least they'll both be doing something finally.

Then now it just Cordelia and Miriel.

Edit: Or maybe I'll put Maribelle with Lon'qu. He's also been doing nothing for a while now.

What do Ricken and Lon'qu each give Brady? I'll let that decide.

Having mixed offenses in parents makes for good War Monks, Tricksters, Dark Knights, and Dark Fliers at least.

Doubling up on a stat, like Vaike-sired Gerome or Ricken-sired Brady is also good. There aren't really any "bad" combinations other than redundant class options.

He'll pass Myrmidon, Thief, and Wyvern Rider to Severa, none of which she gets from Cordelia, along with some good speed and skill growth. So he's good, yeah.

Ricken is quite redundant as Brady's father, as he'll only get Archer out of the deal.

Maybe swap them around and have Gregor father Brady, and Ricken father Laurent?

As fun as that would be, I need some kids. Owain's hand hungers, and Brady needs to make sure people get busy dying.

It's been fun.
