I just thought of something.

Henry's supports with Sully says that low grade hexes won't work on people with more willpower than the caster. Does this mean Virion has tremendous willpower, since Tharja's hexes don't ever work on him?

If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.

That sounds about right, yeah. Whether that's due to Tharja having self-esteem issues (unlikely in any significant sense, given how successful a dark mage she is), it's probably more that Virion just has a very strong core of self-reliance behind his purposely overblown 'I am a legend' facade. We know that he blames himself for running away from his duchy (and so does everyone else), but he still traveled across the world and joined the Shepherds in the hopes that there was something Chrom could do for his people.

It's been fun.

Virion is one of my favorite Awakening characters. Virtually every support he has reveals a ton of depth.

Finished processing the videos for my third Resetless Lunatic+ run: Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4

Fun trivia: this run saved roughly 85 minutes over the last deathless, which had, in turn, saved around 40 minutes from my first. >.>

I adore Virion for being such a wonderful Hidden Depths character.

Which is a shame in that he's one of the weakest units in the damn game.

At least he comes in at a point in the game where he can contribute chip damage, mostly without fear of counterattack, when almost all the other player units have no such luxury (mostly due to the scarcity of 1~2 range during that time). This is more than can be said for Ricken, who has similar stats and type of contribution, but shows up four chapters later, putting him waaaaaay behind, and Donnel, the walking liability, who requires a ton of feeding during the hardest part of the game to be possibly strong for the easiest part of the game (I say possibly, because on Lunatic+, Aptitude actually works against him half the time).

[up][up] In my last playthrough, I reclassed him to a Mage as soon as I could, and found that he did surprisingly well as one, and even better once I promoted him to Dark Knight (plus, dat high collar)

[up] Well, he did say he was a man of many talents. (Which his class set seems to back up.)

[up][up] Luckily, Donnel's successor appears to be better than him in every way. Even (or perhaps especially) on the Conquest route.

Virion needing grinding at all is already a strike against him there, though, since most of the characters capable of 1~2 range should take off and just keep running once they can deal with fighting a solid EP.

Actually, one thing that could help bypass his issue with being a wimpy Archer once he's past the phase where his chip is necessary as a player phase thing is that he could run as a hard support. I'm not really sure which of the women would want him over their other potential partners, though.

Folt: Interesting. Well, I'm not going to keep my hopes up too much and I'll see what happens when I actually get the game and an opportunity to use the character.

[up] It mostly has to do with factors regarding Fates that makes it incredibly difficult to play it like you would most other Fire Emblems.

For one, Fates actually makes player phase important. Among other things, this vastly increases the value of Archers. I think it's safe to say that Fates' version of Archers is highly preferred over every other Fire Emblem game.

[up]No. There is a skill (I think is DLC) that allows bows to hit one range.

Heh, if it is DLC, then that keeps with the trend of Awakening having many of the very powerful skills locked behind DLC maps. tongue

[up][up] 1-2 physical weapons can't double, for starters. So Archers are your best bet there.

I bet I'll still prefer 1~2 range, at least as far as enemy phase is concerned. Wounding all the enemies so that the army as a whole can clean them up on player phase is preferable to the bows' inability to fight at one range. Perhaps bows will see a much stronger player phase presence in my army, though.

[up][up] Except for Hidden Weapons, but their stats are very very weak in comparison, which will be felt in this game.

Fire Emblem Fates has lower growth rates all around for characters as well... and incredibly low HP growths. Enemy units in the lategame has a rather high chance of killing any of your units if you try to have one (or a pair) exterminate a group of units because their defense will not be up to par.

Also, to elaborate on Mozume, she is not gonna be the one man army that Donnel was if you could get him going, but she's going to take less time catching up to your other units which means she has a greater chance by default of contributing to your army. She can also Parallel Seal into Bowman which is great because your only other real option for bows on the Conquest side is Zero (who, to be frank, is great, but having another Archer would be recommended anyways).

[up] That is gonna get your units killed in Fates.

That's a rather drastic statement for such a simple tactic. I have a feeling it's not because of some kind of all-ranges Counter ability, so I look forward to whatever forces me to change things up (again, not an invitation for spoilers here).
