Bridge on the River Kawai: A soldier is tasked with demolishing a bridge as the enemy advances, but rebels when he meets the bridge's personification as a cute girl. After realising she cannot escape with him, he has his squad work with her to delay the enemy and cut their supply lines after they have passed. In the end they both die in a barrage of artillery, and when another bridge is built nearby the new border runs under it and it becomes a symbol of peace between the two.
