Look, some things just aren't done.

You climb mountains. That's what they're for. You don't fly up them and then land on the spot you would climb to. That's cheating

Also, trying to fly in Tengu airspace is probably a bad idea.

Wind shear. You could try flying up a mountain, only to face plant into a rocky cliff side because you flew into sudden gale-force winds.

Either that, or perception filters. Go looking for someplace, and you spend 5 hours flying around in circles with a bunch of folks on the ground watching you make a fool of yourself.

Maybe flying undermines Gensokyo's metaphysical balance in that one of the ways to differentiate youkai and humans is that the latter usually aren't flying everywhere, and if the land's empowered human residents regularly flew to the grocer, the Human Village wouldn't feel so human.

Or maybe flying attracts swarms of fairies that are such a hassle to blow through that most people only fly when they really need to, i.e. during Incidents.

The climb is not just the climb of the rock. It's the aspiration to climb, to reach higher than yourself. Man and this human being, Marisa, climbing higher than herself.

I just re-read Forbidden Scrollery yesterday. At the end of chapter 35 ("Who spread the demagogy", end of the world rumor chapter), Mamizou speculates that a youkai is secretly pushing this rumor without anyone knowing. It's also mentioned that the rumor started thanks to Suzunaan collecting outside world occult magazines.

Then, back in chapter 28, Reimu casually mentioned that after Occult Ball Incident it's easier to find books from the Outside World...

This is some deep lore right here...

This is just my personal perception but I find it interesting that it seems many Touhou stories, despite being very heavy on exposition, is still very restrained in a way in that it doesn't pointlessly repeat itself and try to hammer in things the reader already knows. In fact the lore seems to heavily favor those who pay attention.

Holy %&$§, love dat Mokou. I mean, Mokou's so awesome that it would be hard NOT to draw her being Badass as $&%§, but this is exceptionally cool. I agree with all the rest of the thread that her DBZ-esque Bamboo Chop is lovely (also: I like every bit of evidence I can get about Touhou characters having superhuman strength in addition to all the danmaku and flying powers! Makes the world even more Badass!)

Ah, and with a tie-in for the new game! Hmmm, so there's lifeforce that isn't really lifeforce, strange weather, strange vegetation...

Having started to play it, you can definitely tell it's a fan game even without the characters. What's a difficulty curve?

Edit: Wow, I have not seen such brilliance and stupid, stupid shit in such close proximity since Mystical Power Plant. Every scene is a complete crapshot on both quality and difficulty!

That said,I wonder when would Zun add fan favorite characters like Yukari or Koishi to the main shooters roster considering that "humans only" rule has been broken since 15 *prays desperately for Sagume's spotlight*

Only stage five bosses get to be playable characters in the main games. With the exception of Marisa, who was a stage four boss, before extra stages were a thing.
