Anyone else a fan of these genres?

DJ Shadow is tagged as trip-hop and downtempo by Last.fm, so... yeah, I guess.

I do, but mostly the better known artists in the genre like Massive Attack, Tricky and Portishead. It's a nice contrast to the more shreddy sections of my collection.

Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead, Thievery Corporation... Yeah, I love that stuff.

I like Massive Attack, Portishead, DJ Krush. Nothing too special.

The genre isn't really something you can be a huge fan of, it's more something you enjoy on the side of something, there's not much o a subculture around it.

Hm, there might have been in Bristol 15 years ago but I don't know really.

I listen to Massive Attack, Urban Species, Sneaker Pimps, Smoke City.. and Sia's earlier stuff is essentially this.

I may need to check out that first Sneaker Pimps album sometime, I did really like "Six Underground" when that was popular.

If you're looking for something kind of underlooked that's in this vein, I'd recommend checking out Blue Wonder Powder Milk by Hooverphonic. From what I keep hearing they've gradually turned into more of a general adult alternative band since though. Maybe you'd remember "Renaissance Affair" from a car commercial.

By the way, if you pay any attention to the words of that song, you'll very quickly figure out that they love Word Salad Lyrics, or at least did on the one album I've heard.

Hm, I dunno that subculture really matters as far as vastly enjoying a genre of music.

You can vastly enjoy Trip-Hop, because I do.

It makes up almost a quarter of my record collection, with everybody from the genre standards (DJ Shadow, Portishead, Massive Attack) to people who I'm fairly certain only released one album (The Slip).

As for whether or not DJ Shadow is "truly" Trip-Hop, Endtroducing... certainly was, with a healthy dose of turntablism thrown in, all subsequent albums are up for debate, and The Outsider is Hyphy.

Anyone else a Live Human fan? It's debatable if they're Downtempo, but they're certainly on the "listening" side of electronica, it's DJ Quest and a couple live musicians.

My experience with downtempo begins and ends with the Mirror's Edge soundtrack.

It's good music though, maybe I should look for more of it...

Downtempo seems pretty vague as a description.. mostly, I've heard it applied to Zero 7, Sia, and nu-jazz artists. Kind of as an umbrella term for all the kind of things (including trip hop) you find on 'chillout' compilations, really.

Downtempo is simply defined as music played in a chillout room in a club.

It's a very broad term, but I like most of it.

I've been meaning to try Kreuder and Dorfmeister for a while.

Royksopp counts as downtempo, and they are awesome. : D

It's 3 in the morning. It's raining. I'm listening to Alpha's album, "The Sky is Mine".

I want to express how this feels, but words escape me...

I had a few bucks I didn't know what to do with left over in my amiestreet account, they had the album Elefish Jellyphant, and the samples sounded interesting, so I downloaded it just now. I'll let you know what I think later.
