So, I listened to the first track.
Sounds very old school. But it also sounds better than I had expected. Don't think it's something I'd listen to regularly, though.
I'll finish up the album when I come home.
Ecstasy is Sustained IntensityWicked: That's the point, and I agree.
I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....Late reply is late, but:
I mean, if I wanted to troll this bunch, my next album suggestion would be Jesus Freak by dc Talk.
EDIT TO ADD: Having listened to 1987 again, it's well-done but not my cup of tea. The songs are just random enough that I can't pick up on the structure after two listens, but just structured enough that I couldn't enjoy the randomness. If that makes any sense.
I did like "Me Ru Con" and "Îvum Nayâ".

So, continuing listening to Spain's suggestion, I really liked Me Ru Con. But for the most part, the vocals on the rest of the tracks really grate on me, to the point of near unlistenability.
My favorite track is probably Next.
Ecstasy is Sustained IntensityWhy do so many people hate Scottish rap? /DESPAIR
I like "Next" as well.
I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....I can't listen to Flogging Molly for similar reasons. It's just the texture of the voice. I'm fine with the accent and word choices, but the texture is what does it.

Ecstasy is Sustained IntensitySorry, I tried, but I just can't get behind this. I think Meta Four's assessment was right. It's in that limbo zone that makes it completely forgettable.
Video Game Census. Please contribute.DESPAIR.
So no one liked this?
I am disappoint. ;-;
I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....Just getting around to listening now.
I just listened to the album. UK hip-hop isn't exactly my thing, and neither is sample-based music/plunderphonics. One thing I did like though were the beats. They probably would have worked very well with more rapping over them and less samples. Not my cup of tea, but it isn't horrible.
Interesting in some places, dull in others.
Soooo, when do we get the new album?
Ecstasy is Sustained IntensitySae, do you want someone else to run this?
Video Game Census. Please contribute.-*Headdesk*-. Okay,I'm currently listening to the album, and I'll choose a new one when I'm done.
Anyways, although I would love to keep running this, it might be wise for someone else to take over just for the sake of keeping it going. I've got a thesis to write, among other things. Any volunteers?

Listen to Music with Tropers at The Troper Turntable!DELIBERATE DOUBLE POST
Okay, so firstly, a few thoughts on the album:
- I'm liking the old school beatbox backing.
- Bill Drummond is the Scottishest rapper ever. I don't really have anything against his voice, in fact I find it rather amusing.
- The sample of The Lonely Goatherd in Next was inspired.
- In general, I found that the blatant and illegal sampling teetered precariously on the pivoting point between being used artfully as a contrast to the political lyrics and low-tech production (All You Need Is Love, Next), and just being irritatingly obvious and forced (Don't Take Five).
- Me Ru Con was awesome and fitted nicely as a breather in the middle of the album. Definitely came straight out of nowhere though.
- Overall, I rather enjoyed the album in a strange sort of way, but I found it hard to take it in any way seriously. It seems more like an exercise in what they could get away with than a serious musical endeavour. But it is pretty fun. I'd say 6/10.
Anyways, random number is 2, and that's Ben Frost - Theory Of Machines. Waiting on Neccy for a link, unless I've missed it somewhere in the depths of the thread.
In theory you have till Friday, but we shall see what happens if/when I hand control of the thread over.

Listen to Music with Tropers at The Troper Turntable!?
In general, I seem to be the only JAMS fan who likes "Don't Take Five" dunno why.
I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....^ From The Sound Of Music. Confirmation from Wikipedia that I'm not going insane:
This post was thumped by the Codfish in a Derby Hat
That was awesome. How have I not heard of this guy's music before, it's right up my alley.
Just got through with the first track. My impression is that it would make great background noise. As something to listen to for entertainment, it's not really my thing. The rhythms do a good job of building suspense that is slowly resolved.
Complaints: It's ridiculously processed. Not something I'm a fan of.
Ecstasy is Sustained IntensityThere was a lot of good stuff there. Now if only that good stuff could be maintained for an entire album. It goes from being incredibly cool to kind of boring, often with those sections right next to each other.
Video Game Census. Please contribute.Definitely some great stuff in there. I love how he blended the drums with the ambience. It flowed really well.
Ecstasy is Sustained IntensityI guess I'll take over if it's okay with Sae. You have until Monday night or Tuesday Morning, depending on when I have the time to choose the next album. I'm live in America on the Eastern Time Zone, by the way. There are five albums left including this one.
The Random Number Generator returns a 2, which is Girl Talk - Feed the Animals. Yes, I did use a random number generator. Anyway, the album is available for name your price here. If you enter "0", then you don't even have to go through paypal. You just go straight to the download link. If you decide you want to pay for it, then you can just buy the album again later. For $5.00 US, you can get a full album track or FLAC files. Full album track is worth it since the tracks flow into each other. For $10 you can get a hard copy.
It helps to have a sense of humor when listening to this. I still expect responses to this album would range from love it to hate it and hit everywhere in between.
Remaining albums are:
- Owen Pallet - Heartland
- Relient K - Forget and Not Slow Down
- Venetian Snares - Huge Chrome Cylinder Box Unfolding
- Billy Talent - Billy Talent

Video Game Census. Please contribute.Oh wow, my album came up and I didn't post a link. I am a bad person.
Anyway, it's a great album. And it's about time I started doing this again.

It sounds very much like an old-school hip-hop record.
Like, right down to the echo-chamber vocals.
You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat!
