The second, fourth, and fifth tracks are the standouts, I think. The other two are good but not quite great. Overall though it's pretty amazing.
Another mini-liveblog. I didn't read anyone else's posts as I wrote this:
Track one: Shred-tastic. Maybe a little too shredtastic?!
Track two: Slowing things down a bit. I'm starting to warm up to this.
Oh dear, I'm totally typecasting myself as a guy who dislikes anything that's too fast or noisy.
Interesting vocal sample. It's rare for something like that to genuinely surprise me, but this did.
Track three: Liking the guitar effects in the intro in the entire song.
Track four: Meh.
Track five: Nothing to say.
So, I'm thinking math-rock is just not for me.
Track two is the best one for sure.
First track: This song makes thing about how I can't find guitar solos interesting anymore. I like everything else but that, though.
Second track: Really digging the drumming on this song, along with... whatever it is that's playing alongside it.
Oh no, the drumming stopped 3 minutes in. Sounds a little more post-rocky now. I still like.
Third track: A little bit too disorganized, but still okay. Kinda short, too.
Fourth track: Groooooooooovy.
Fifth track: Slightly less groovy, but still good.
But then it gets better.
All in all: I really liked it. I love how rhythm-focused (at least, that's what it sounded like) it was, and everything in general appealed to me greatly.
You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat! This is math-rock? It seemed rather straight to me, although there was some playing with time.
I agree that track two is basically the best track on the album, but they should have left the voice out of it entirely.
Track one was good, but it felt like there wasn't enough pay off to the track. I forget most of track three and four, and while five was catchy, that's really all I can say about it. Still, there were fun moments to be had. I wouldn't be against hearing more from this group.
Video Game Census. Please contribute.- The first half is decent enough; the second half ups the awesomeness considerably. Pretty good, but not great. Musicianship is nice, as is expected of a math rock group.
- The first two-and-a-half-minutes of this track are incredible, then it turns into a somewhat basic post-rock song which, while enjoyable, doesn't really match up to the first two minutes. I found the sample (which I am unfamiliar with the origin of) tolerable, but slightly overlong. After the sample, the song continues with some good, but not very memorable, mathy stuff. Overall, I thought it was great, and it kept my interest throughout.
- This song manages to strike an impressive balance between atmosphere and frantic-ness. It's much too short, I feel, but it's still good.
- Initially, more mathy stuff, slightly samey. The bit at the two-minute mark caught my attention, and the song improved from then on.
- Starts off with more post-rock, though done better than that bit in track 2. Two-and-a-half minutes in, the song suddenly becomes awesome, including some spectacular drumming. From then on, the track changes course several times, consistently remaining great throughout.
My verdict after listening to it once: tracks 2, 3 and 5 are awesome, the other two are slightly unmemorable math rock but still enjoyable. In addition, the musicianship on this album is great, especially the drumming. I'll need to listen to this again to "get" it, though; there's too much going on here for me to make a solid judgement on first listen.
On the negative side, the album felt too short, large parts of it were unmemorable, and there wasn't much of a flow to the album (though maybe upon further listening the album will flow better). Overall, though, it's a pretty good album.

last.fm | RYM- : Holy shit this ended with an awesome solo. Seriously, wow.
- : Wasn't listening closely to the first bit of this. Now it's in a slow section which is kind of nice. Bit later, now it's out of that nice slow part. Shame. Well, it's speeding up now at least. Still a bit boring. Now talky part. Wow, surprise at the end there. Think that might be the point.
- : Looking like it might be short. Not terrible, not great so far. Yeah, that's it. Not terrible, not great.
- : Starting a little weird. Continuing a lot weird. Ended a lot weird too.
- : Ooh, this next one looks long. Sounds nice so far. Kinda mellow. Ow, part in the middle hurt my ears. Overall pretty good. Nothing really special.
Overall it wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great either.
I'm convinced that our modern day analogues to ancient scholars are comedians. -0dd1So, I'm thinking ahead to when we finish every item on the current list and make a second list of albums to listen to. I already know which artist I want to suggest, but I'm torn between two albums. So I'm wondering which you lot would be more interested in: an album that's very consistently good, but comparatively subtle and requires multiple listens to be really appreciated; or an album that's more in-your-face and can be grasped with fewer listens, but has a few weaker tracks.
Your choice Meta Four.
Also, if my item happens to come up while I'm out, just push it back and we'll listen to it next time I can post.
I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....SAEG BUDDY, ARE YOU THERE?!
You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat!I AM HERE! Sorry, it's been a horrible, horrible week.
Luckily, I'm already well acquainted with Giraffes? Giraffes!, and I reckon More Skin... is a very good album. Not excellent, but very good. My main gripes with it are that it's too short, and as such the 2 minute long 3rd track is either unnecessary or could do with being made into a full length track. Repeating what others have already said about tracks 2, 4 and 5 being the best, but track 1 is also great fun. What I love about the band and this album is how they completely refuse to take themselves seriously. It's just a gleeful romp of an album really.
ANYWAYS... random number generator says 4, which is Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies. We be needing Aondeug to post a link.
Sorry again for failing to keep up with this. My IRL schedule is less dire for the next few weeks, so I'll make sure I keep it going.
Listen to Music with Tropers at The Troper Turntable!Well then... This is probably their only album where I like everything that is on it. NOT LIKE YOU LADIES AND GENTLEMEN WE ARE FLOATING IN SPACE!
Now then it is highly recommended that this album be listened to in order as the songs segue into the next in a rather interesting fashion. The tracks have been split up into their separate songs...On the album itself the songs are bunched together into 4 tracks. The track groupings for the curious are...
Red: You Know it's True/If I Were with Her Now/I Want You Green: Run/Smiles/Step into the Breeze/Symphony Sound Blue: Take Your Time/Shine a Light Black: Angel Sigh/Sway/200 Bars
According to the mighty Wikipedia this is part of an interesting little subgenre called space rock.

If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahMy thoughts, by track
- You Know It's True: Classic guitar playing. Almost cliche, but relaxing. The processing makes the vocals very ethereal, and smooth. Kind of rolls off the rest of the song. It's ambient without being ambient.
- If I Were With Her Now: It starts off with more energy. The electric guitar pulses at the beginning really add a mechanic feeling to the song. The parts really combine well to build tension. Can barely make out the vocals, though. The repetition is nice, only because it accents the... umm... accents. The breakdown and rebuild towards the end really make the song.
- I Want You: The vocals seem to play a lot bigger of a role in this song. But everything else seems distant. Not really caring for this one.
- Run: Awesome bass intro. The guitar just adds to it. This is probably my favorite track so far. Quite a bit of texture and a great feel to it.
- Smiles: Nice, churchy feel, with the synth chords in the beginning. The droning and almost indian feel of further in the song definitely spices it up. Like.
- Step Into The Breeze: The bass intro is yet again awesome. It sounds like there's some reversed, upside down, heavily processed vocals floating behind the actual vocals. Tasteful guitar work. Another like.
- Symphony Space: Ambient opening, but I can still feel a kind of energy behind it. It kinda drags on, though. Really drags on. That energy I felt becomes hypnotically trancelike. The whole track is the ambience.... Not a fan.
- Take Your Time: The guitar work strikes me as being bluesy. The vocals provide the drone here. It kind of sounds like a didgeridoo. Definitely blues inspired, this track. The guitar solo doesn't quite seem to fit the rest of the song, though...
- Shine A Light: Another very ambient track. The vocals are fluffy, and add to the song like fluffy clouds add to a blue sky. The bass seems to be the highlight of this song. But then another instrument comes in. I'm not sure what it is, but I don't care for the sound. The melody it provides though is angry, but seems to resolve into apathy.
- Angel Sigh: Ambient opening, but it is soon broken by percussion, and it's this hollow percussion that grabs my interest. But then a powerful guitar melody begins. Definitely a good track. Everything in this track compliments the rest beautifully, without getting lost.
- Sway: Opens up with a steady pulse of synth, and a minimalistic guitar part. The repetition gets old fast on this track, however. Probably because it's a tad too minimalistic. Forgettable, this one.
- 200 Bars - Spiritualized: The rhythm of the fade in reminds me of breathing. And instead of droning, this definitely feels like it's building up to something. And before I know it, parts start getting added without my notice. Overall, this track reminds me of a jellyfish swimming. The vocals put the finishing touch on this song, when they finally come in. Not my favorite, but still a good composition.
Overall: Not my genre of music, but still enjoyable. I'll keep the album in my collection. Some of the later tracks really started painting pictures.
I can't Torrent things.

I wasn't able to listen to the Giraffes? Giraffes! album until now. I really liked it, the songs were really fun to listen to. I also kept thinking about how crazy it would be to play them in Guitar Hero or Rock Band. My favorite would be track 2, but track 3 is also really good.
I'm downloading the Lazer Guided Melodies right now.

What Zudak said.
Thoroughly average, 5/10.
When's the next album?
I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....Err... hmm. Massively behind schedule once again. I suck at this >_<
So yeah, new album is, erm, whenever I've listened to this one. Which is RIGHT NOW. So I guess that means later today.
Listen to Music with Tropers at The Troper Turntable!^^I dunno, I'd say it was more a 6.5 or a 7, if I had to give it a number.
I still find it a 5.
I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....
Okay listened to it.
It was alright, I'd like to sample something from that at some point, the third track (I think it was that one, anyway, maybe not, it all kinda ran together) bored me, but the rest was pretty good.
8|10
as for next number...BIG MONEY, BIG MONEY, NO WHAMMY NO WHAMMY waitwrongshow
