x4 Peter David is so passionate about YJ and Impulse, it's endearing. According to Weisman, he heard about the show and basically asked to work on it.

Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Well, that explains it.
One Strip! One Strip!Hello! I just finished marathoning both seasons of the show. It is, quite frankly, excellent at what it does. The pacing is quick (to a fault, even), relentless, tension and flow are maintained at all times, plot twists never feel excessively forced, the characterization is solid if a bit shallow (but with such a huge cast!), the emotions are reasonably honest if not dwelled-upon much, the fights are well-designed and credible, the worldbuilding really makes good use of characters joining forces and collaborating as teams. I really love how the villains come off as threatening, but what I love the most is how the heroes come off as heroic, dependable, dedicated, and though they are impossibly strong, energetic, agile, resilient and capable under situations of extreme stress and pain, it doesn't come off as absurd as it should.
Oh, and this show really seems to have a fascination with quietly rutheless villains. Dan Savage, Luthor, Mongul, Darkseid even the Beetles and Black Manta have this cold, methodical callousness about them, often coupled with a superficially-friendly demeanour, I would find it annoying if I didn't love that type so much.
All of this is very noticeable in the voice acting, which is top-notch... except for G. Gordon Godfrey. He's just... ugh, reminds me of Ronaldo in Steven Universe. His dramatic, overtheatrical voice needs to be toned down a couple notches; then it would be perfect. But, as it is, it comes off as extremely insincere, faked, hollow, and rhetoric. He is surrounded by a fairly hammy and overdramatic cast, so it's hard for him to stand out, but he lays it on a bit too thik.
Though it was hilarious to see him turn against the Ambassador
Another thing I loved was how the plots were set up with the looooong view in sight, a Xanatos Pileup spanning half a decadeseveral millennia!
So, the series isn't getting renewed?

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. The Firefly Effect! Big "NO!"!
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Well, at least some of the Young Justice girls cameoed in a Scooby-Doo straight to DVD movie. That makes up for it, right? ...Right?
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Nevermind the future, the show was basically popcorn: entertaining and absorbing, but ultimately vacuous and aimless.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Well, the dude is a news anchor who's trying to rile people up with insincere, fake, hollow rhetoric...
Yeah, but he's not credible as such. It's in-universe bad acting. He doesn't sound like a real liar, but like someone sarcastically pretending to be a liar. Ronaldo Fryman from Adventure Time has the exact same problem, while Gideon from Gravity Falls, while obviously fake to the out-of-universe audience, is credible as credible to the in-universe audience.
In-universe acting is hard to do well, and is a bit of a deep dive, but come on, these people are professionals.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. It's not that surprising: Greg Weisman loves that kind of villain. There's at least one in every one of his shows.
He also likes it when villains make a point of not taking revenge, and that's another thing a lot of the big Young Justice villains take to heart too.
Also, "Dan" Savage?
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Sorry, slip of the tongue.
Also, yeah, "revenge is a sucker's game", eh, DavidLex?

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Man, now I want Vandal to re-name himself Dan.
One Strip! One Strip!I think Ronaldo's voice fits his character - he has a very high opinion of himself, and I think the voice acting makes that apparent.
I don't think I see what you're talking about with Godfrey, though.
Oh God! Natural light!I can't tell if Weisman really likes Nietzsche or really hates him.
Xanatos, The Light, Norman Osborn, etc tend to take this mold. He casts them as the villain, yet, he writes them as so magnificent and they steal their respective shows.
I wonder what he'd think of Bioshock's Andrew Ryan.
I really liked this version of Luthor, but something felt like it was missing - the nigh fanatical hatred of Superman. Admittedly, I don't think the two of them ever interact, but its absence is felt nonetheless.
I can appreciate a suave Luthor who's always on top of things and always keeps his cool, but he doesn't quite feel he's achieved his full potential until he loses it at least once - Luthor's always at his most dangerous when he has nothing left to lose.

Oh God! Natural light!Andrew Ryan is ultimately a pitiful figure, with a faith in the Free Market that goes beyond what's economically sound and into religious I Reject Your Reality-ness. His utter mismanagement of the ADAM debacle makes a loser of him.
Nietzsche was a meek intellectual nice guy with a weak body, who made a point of not making a philosophy that was convenient for him, the way so many before him did, but to encourage ruthlessness in the pursuit of what one thinks is right, physical growth, strength and action.
All the cast would be approved of by Nietzsche, I think, except for Miss Martian. As they said at the Justice League, she's too eager to please, and this leads her to do unwittingly several unethical and hypocritical things under her saccharine exterior. She lacks the self-awareness and deliberation of other rule-breakers.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.So I just found out that Mal Duncan actually was the Second Guardian in the Pre-Crisis DC.
I never knew that. I thought he went straight to being Herald.
I also found out the origin of the horn changed between Pre and Post-Crisis, and that he'd also been known as Hornblower.
About the only thing I did know besides that is that after an accident with a Zeta Tube cause him to end up with the horn lodged into his body, and that he joined the Doom Patrol as Vox.
History is fascinating.
One Strip! One Strip!I finally started watching this—I held off because I know it ends the way it does, that got spoiled, and I wasn't sure I wanted to deal with that. But I finally let my friend talk me into it and. /damn/ I'm on episode 24 now.
Got a degree in Emotional trauma via fictional characters aka creative writing. hosting S'mores party in Hell for fellow (evil) writersDid you finish it yet? Or is it on hold?
on hold because I've got a Real Job now and it conflicts with my friend's—she wants to watch the last few episodes of season 1 and cherrypick episodes of season 2 for me, but hopefully soon? I did write a Fic/introspectivey thing about Superboy though! (it's on my Ao3)
Got a degree in Emotional trauma via fictional characters aka creative writing. hosting S'mores party in Hell for fellow (evil) writersAh. S2 is my favorite, and you need to watch the whole thing because Jaime is precious.
I know he is, I have been informed of such, and I cannot wait to meet him. at the same time, I know how the season ends. and you know me, I go to absolute pieces when my favorite characters , uh, die.

Still the most interesting character of season 2, though.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!also what I've heard, that S2 had a lot of plot-hole type things and stuff that was kinda out of character and just sort of—off. But I figure I should still watch it. &liveblog the end of S1. I have a theory about the Mole but no one is telling me and I refuse to spoil myself.

Wouldn't exploring that more allow for both?
