I don't know if this was the right place to put this(?), but I have just one big concerns about the "True Art" trope: Its pretty much unreadable:( I've been frequenting this site and I understand that this is one of those tropes written in a way to represent the trope itself (self-demonstrating tropes I think they're called), which can be enjoyable, but something like that can only work to a certain extent. The article is just flat-out confusing and doesn't even try to make sense. I didn't even have any general idea on how to even begin to understand it:/ I tried to read it but just ended up giving up-_-' Not saying that it was a bad article, just extremely confusing. Did anyone else find it confusing?

I think this article needs a bit of revision. It would've been nice if the troper that wrote made a bit more sense...

It is an index. Supposed to be a play on True Art Is Incomprehensible (and others on the index). Agree that self-demonstration is confusing. Can this be rewritten to be informative but keep the joke? Lose the joke?

I'd prefer to lose the joke all together, since it is an index and the page is more about demonstrating True Art Is Incomprehensible.

I agree with Madrugada on losing the joke. I've seen other self-demonstrating indexes but they are relatively simple in and of themselves. Besides if the troper wanted to do a self-demonstrating article then why didn't they just actually write the True Art is Incomprehensible article that way instead, which would have been more fitting. That was definitely an interesting self-demo of an idex, so much so that I didn't even realize it was one until Madrugada brought it to my knowledge:P

Index articles are generally just a list of associated tropes. See Hollywood Index, Xanatos Planned This Index...

The joke is "this article is incomprehensible". "Lose the joke" means "rewrite it straight, no self-demonstration, that is confusing".

Indexes shouldn't even be a little bit confusing. I don't see a reason for that page to be abstract at all.

Thanks for answering rodney, but I'd already rewrote that post:P Seems that I posted before I actually realized that I did indeed Know what an index was and that I knew what "the joke" was; I was a bit scatterbrained at that time I suppose:)

I agree that index pages are supposed to be easily traversable. I believe that it's okay for an index to be written as a self-demo as long as it is "recognizable" and doesn't cater too much exclusively to any one trope listed within it.

By the way, I love this site. You wouldn't believe the wiki walks it's sent me on much to my displeasure...too many to count, a hell lot of them€D Tv tropes really can ruin your life;3

Well, the True Art page used to be even MORE incomprehensible. Hard to believe, but at some point, it seems that someone actually "cleaned up" the page.

It's just an index of six pages. If we would move that part to the top of the page, so anyone can find the list of True Art trope at the moment of entering the page, the joke won't bother anyone.

Maybe move that page to Just For Fun?

When I made that page that's where it was.

True Art was originally made back when the only two True Articles were True Art Is Incomprehensible and True Art Is Angsty. Thus, it linked to both of those articles, then had a single paragraph of gibberish, ending in Your daddy never loved you.

That original version was much funnier than the current incarnation.

When True Art Is Foreign was launched, I used babelfish to translate "Your daddy never loved you" into Japanese and added that to the page. I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for contributing, however slightly, to the article's current state.

Heh, yeah. I made it by running a paragraph describing how the page was True Art, ran it through babelfish a dozen times, and posted it.

This is essentially just an Encyclopedia Dramatica article plopped down into TV Tropes. There's a whole Self-Demonstrating category for these things to go in now, and I would be glad to copy it there and revert this to something like Some Guy's Aug. 10 2010 version.

That's undoubtedly the best idea I've heard for dealing with it. You get a gold star:[awesome] Heck, have two:[awesome][awesome].

I don't even think we should preserve the current version anywhere. If people want an incomprehensible self-demonstrating article for humor, they should make one for True Art Is Incomprehensible instead of the True Art index.

I think its pretty straight forward.

True art does make sense. The idea of "true art" hasn't been consistently defined by anyone. Its said on the very page.

I don't see anything wrong with a LITTLE self-demonstration in an index page, but this one takes it about three or four times too far. Personally, I'm among those who'd just like to see it cleaned up more, but if it fits the greater style of the site and satisfies everyone, I vote for preserving this as a Just For Fun page and throwing together a more suitable, clearer "real" page for it.

Ha, didn't notice this thread had been dead for a month. Necromancy!

A YKTTW has been started, to sereve the function of an index, so True Art coud remain a self-demonstrating Just for Fun page.

We already have an index page for the True Art tropes. It's the page that's the subject of this discussion thread. We most definitely do not need to make another one to act as the real index so that this incomprehensible mess can be kept.

Well i guess that settles that. There's still a bit of the Self-Demonstration there so the best of both worlds I guess. Shame that it had to be locked. I was just proposing to add another True Art trope to the list.

When the page is made for True Art Is Not Popular, it can be added.

So then where did the old self-demonstrating version go? Because I don't see any links to one.

It was deleted. I don't care enough about it to make a new page for it. SelfDemonstrating.True Art Is Incomprehensible. There you go. Knock yourself out. (If you really think that anything incomprehensible is Art.)
