What is there to solve ? Do you need x as a function of y, or y as a function of x ?

I think we used to have a programming help thread but I can't seem to find it so this thread'll do. I'm trying to write a shell-sort in Java . All I really need to do at this point is fix the insertion sort method so that it properly takes in and accounts for the 'gapsize' and 'offset' variables

I'm trying to find the center of mass for a can that's half full, but apparently I have no idea how to since nothing we learned in class is working.

the mass of the can, which is 12.5 cm tall, is 17.7 g, and the mass of the soda in it when its full is 360 g. I thought to find the center of mass I need to add up the mass of the can multiplied by its center of mass, and th mass of the soda multiplied by its center of mass, and divide by the sum of both masses. but that doesnt seem to be working

It should work... What calculations do you make and what do you find?

This is for fellow Canadians since I'm doing criminology as part of my strategy to get back to university all over again and gain enough readmission credits. The following question refers to BC BTW in terms of provincial legislation.

I need to double check on something based on this question:

A provincial backbencher proposed a law that would exclude patients with Alzheimer’s disease from the provisions of the Mental Health Act and cover their involuntary detention, when necessary, under adult guardianship legislation. This became a bill and eventually passed third reading but went no further. Which legislation would now apply and why?

I answered that this would apply to the Lt. Governor since he/she can withhold royal assent to a bill. The other answer would be that he/she can reserve the bill for a certain amount of time, but I don't know if that's a strong answer.

Does anyone here have any experience working with solidThinking Inspire (or any other Altair software) or NX Nastran?

Not so much a homework question, but it is school related.

Does anyone know how to organize your school things well when you have very limited space?

I really want to be organized. I want to have a desk with organized compartments, with a bookshelf and calendar and everything in its place. But there’s no room in my apartment for anything. I do all my work on the couch, because I don’t even have room at a table. I have no choice but to stack everything on top of each other on the one free spot on the couch, things falling over the floor and in between the cushions. I lose multiple pencils per day. But I can’t find any other way to do it. There isn’t any other place for me to study.

I need a system.

Does anyone know how to make a heading for a Chicago formatted paper without making a separate title page? Is it the same as an MLA heading with Your name (line break) Professor name (line break) Class section (line break) Date, or something wildly different?

Also: If I reference an author in vague terms such as "this author's style is an example of the informal style of writing mean for a wide public" do I need to reference any work of theirs in my bibliography? I don't need an in-text citation, do I?

[up] Yeah, I use that as my go-to. I'm just confused about some more specific nuances

[up] I'm also having a problem with what Purdue can answer. I'm trying to cite this for the in-text and bibliography, but the problem is that the author's name is not provided.

Then there's a chain: try and cite the office, then the establishment, and then lastly the website or literally wherever you found it with a link. So instead of Smith, J., you would have X Office of Y or Z's Dept. of A for office, for establishment you get U.Columbia or B Foundation, and for 'where I found it' you would stick the name of the website or publication in the name slot. At least, here.

[up] So like these:

Per their website (2016)... (European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights. 2016).

Bibliography entry:

European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (2016). Fundamental Rights Forum. Retrieved from: http://fundamentalrightsforum.eu/

BTW, I have a paper to finish, and I have to use APA.

MS Office should have an APA style guide, and yes it looks like that would be right

[up] Okay, but I how do I cite this, which is just a translation, in APA?

Hey is anyone here versed in Wolfram Mathematica? I've used it to some degree before but never in that much depth, and now I have to take a class entirely in it. My first problem set was just posted and while I don't have any questions yet, they are probably going to be rapidly piling up soon

It's been years since I've used it, and my student license has expired, but it's not that hard to use. I don't know what kind of advice you need

I've got my first Mathematica question. I need to simplify Tan[3 [Pi]/11] + 4 Sin[2 [Pi]/11] into Sqrt[11] using Simplify and FullSimplify commands. I've tried messing around with it, but the furthest I can get it to simplify is to Cot[(5 [Pi])/22] + 4 Sin[(2 [Pi])/11]. Can anyone help?
