Ah, but there was pretty intense interest there for a while. It's not like it was brought up, then immediately dropped. So I'd say there is interest still.

And not all of us frequented TRS back in January.

I think we should have that crowner.

No one was in TRS in January? Or what is the relevance of that?

I mean, I thought the rule for renames was, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Clearly this isn't broken, or the thread would have been busier. I thought one rule was "don't change a name for no better reason than you thought of one you like better," which is what's happening here. Evidently I'm wrong about those.

The argument is that the name is driving away non-Jewish examples. Whether that's true or not is debatable, but it's not just "thought of something better."

Or actually, maybe it started that way, but it sure isn't now.

I seem to remember us establishing misuse/far narrower use than the trope actually is.

Yes, the OP was under the impression that we renamed tropes to obscure references rather than the other way around. It was later pointed out that this was broader than just Jews In Space (which the OP confused it for) and that Stereotypes In Space might work better as either a rename or a supertrope. Given the usage of Space Jews, I'm inclined to break off Stereotypes In Space as a supertrope, if it needs splitting at all.

The problem with this is that Space Jews do look Druish, but are not, whereas this title change would suggest the opposite.

The thing is that "Space Jews" comes up fairly frequently as a specific example (and one that causes fights among fandom/anti-fandom as to whether a specific example is actually Space Jews or not), but "real-world racial stereotype IN SPACE" is its supertrope and what the existing trope is supposed to be about.

The problem I could see is that every specific example of a racial stereotype will then acquire a new trope article. Do we really need all those?

A brighter future for a darker age.

Probably not. I'm also not a fan of letting people run wild with stereotypes.

Time to fish or cut bait.

Either we should have a crowner or we should close this thread.
