Touhou games

Because the main Touhou thread is mostly about memes and doujinshi manga.

I would start by talking about my latest accomplishments but I haven't played Touhou in a few days.

I do have a question, though: What is up with Phantasmagoria Of Flower View's weird "battle" system?

I haven't played Phantasmagoria yet, so I don't know anything about the "battle system" of which you speak.

Aww, but this discussion would've fit perfectly into the standard thread, too! I hope the thread I'm planning to post in a while won't seem like overkill now...

Don't you need two players to play Phantasmagoria? I thought it was a competitive game...

You can play against the CPU.

Does Phantasmagoria have netplay?

Also, why does it say "Dead Parrot" instead of "loser"?

Apparently yes, but it's still in the beta stages.

Remillia(sp?) having a Dio Brando moment in Koumajou Densetsu Scarlet Symphony = priceless.

I love how despite the dark and creepy new character artwork all of the usual suspects are as oddball as always.

I acquired a couple of these games recently, and I've been enjoying them, even if I don't have the stones to play on a higher level than "Easy" yet.

Also: I was wondering about the Dead Parrot thing too. Seriously, what the crap?

The main thread has had plenty of discussions about the gameplay. Splitting it will just result in both being slow.

^There hasn't been any mention of the gameplay for the last three pages. The last time the games were brought up was WWW's post on the 22nd of January. The discussion carried on for 23 posts until it went back to verse details here. 23 posts out of a total of 83.

I can see why another thread was made, quite frankly.

^ Very True. That thread is almost toxic to someone like me asking where I could find the Touhou games (legit or otherwise) or which game to start with.

I think the Dead Parrot thing was just something added for luls. I certainly found it entertaining, though...

I think it's "Remilia". I only finished that yesterday, I was quite pleased with myself.

Oddly, Patchouli gave me far more trouble than Remilia; I find her patterns much harder to avoid. Remilia's quite easy to dodge once you've worked it out.

...you sure it wasn't Sakuya? She's the one who's always compared to Brando, because of her Knife Nut tendencies and her ability to stop time.

I'm going to try another full run over the weekend. I'm told you can do it under an hour, if you know what you're doing. And there's always that extra stage.

I'm slowly becoming a big fan of Touhou, though I find myself immersed thoroughly in the games, and not much interested in all the doujin and fanwork stuff. So this thread is good for me. :3

Reimu is my favourite character to play, thanks to her cheating homing bullets. XD So what I usually do is just hold the fire key and focus solely on dodging bullets, and still kill stuff. This is bad though, as it makes me unable to play decently with other characters. :<

My favourite game, I think, is probably number 8, Imperishable Night. I managed to beat Final B today with the Reimu/Yukari team! I was very proud. It was only on easy, but still. XD My next step is to beat it with the rest of the characters so I can open the individual character option. It's not going well though, I'm too used to the homing shot, lol.

For some reason I can't get Embodiment of Scarlet Devil to run without mass slowdown.

I was a whisker shy of finishing Impenetrable Night, except I was on my last life with no bombs and no more continues before being murdered by Kaguya's third request. Bollocks to that.

Other news: got a hold of a doujin danmaku primer starring Flandre Scarlet called Moedan, which is essentially a fifty mission cute-'em-up with various conditions for obtaining the silver or gold medals serving as markers for a stage's completion.

How can i get a hold of the games/ what's best to start with/ anything i should know before i play them etc?

Legal way here / Perfect Cherry Blossom (number 7) or Imperishable Night (number 8) are the most newcomer-friendly (though I recommend starting with Embodiment of Scarlet Devil (6) just for chronology, though that's not really important) / All the games that have decimals (7.5, 10.5 and 12.3) are fighting games, not Bullet Hell / Touhou 1-5 is not really important / Phantasmagoria of Flower View (number 9) is duel-based and kinda different from the others / Shoot The Bullet (number 9.5) has a very different take on the Bullet Hell-model and is not recommended to beginners / There's no (big) shame in playing Easy Mode / Press Shift to move slower and concentrate your attack / It's better to bomb than die / ...enjoy

Gotta say, it's a bit of a relief to hear this - I spent a long time wondering if all the EASY MODO?! things were jokes or not. Although I've heard playing on a harder mode first gets you more used to how the game works and makes for better practice, although, speaking from experience, it also makes the games a lot more frustrating.

Well, I only play Normal Mode, but that's because I want the Good Ending.

Wait hey what about Shoot the Bullet? That's not a fighting game, it's a spinoff danmaku game featuring Aya Shamemaru! It's also very hard.

And there is no Touhou 6.5, you're thinking of 7.5
