Oh, that song. I never liked it much, primarily because he's singing out of key. The one time Auto-Tune could be fucking USEFUL. (More and more songs seem to have this same problem, like that wretched Black Eyed Peas thing where there's not just one person who's flat, but EVERYONE.)

Only krautrock band I've properly listened to is Kraftwerk. There's not much rock with Kraftwerk, I know, but they're apparently still considered krautrock because they're experimental and German.

Which wretched Black Eyed Peas thing? What you describe could cover a lot of their songs, especially off their latest album.

Whichever one they keep playing now where Fergie and the dude compete to see who can be flatter and sing more half-assedly.

Sorry; being off-key is my Berserk Button.

The only work I've liked as a whole from Aesop Rock was the Daylight EP. The rest seems to have way too many moments of mediocrity and ineptitude.

Jethro: AMEN MY BROTHER!!!

The funny thing about Krautrock is that it has nothing whatsoever to do with Rock, in fact, that's the point. Kraftwerk were Krautrock early on, they turned Electronica at some point (although when is debatable). Krautrock is the forerunner for a lot of stuff. a whole lot of stuff.

You showed me that once before Tze.

I thought you knew nothing about music, hm?

Anyway, microsampling is not hard. I've done it, i hated the results. It sounded like tinny static, most microsampled songs do. Which makes me respect Ak for making his songs sound like, well songs.

That song is from a soundtrack. Soundtracks I know.

I'm still not entirely sure why an anime production team decided to bring in a Canadian electronic musician.

That's actually fairly common. Most anime themesongs that aren't J-Pop are done by foreign musicians. Case in point. Boa doing the Serial Experiments Lain theme.

...huh. I thought they were Japanese. (And apparently it's "Bôa")

Appleseed has a ton of music by different artists though. For example, Bump Over Hills, by *checks* the Japanese Boom Boom Satellites.

And more Akufen.

If you're going to start developing a musical taste, electronica is always a good place to start.

Aphex Twin is more well known and has done similar work, although in his case all his equipment is home-made.

Fun thing to do; download the free version of Audacity and make nonsense music.

edit: Twin's work in that subgenre is done under the AFX pseudonym i think...

Old jazz does that. We're playing "Black Bottom Stomp" at school, it's pretty good if you can find a recording that doesn't suck.
