Well I think both are supposed to be based on the Virgin Mary, however in regards to Black Maria I think this bit from the Megaten Wiki can explain it

"Black Maria refers to the Black Madonna, or Black Virgin, which is a depiction of the Virgin Mary which has dark or black skin. Black Madonnas may have grown out of pre-Christian earth goddess traditions and that their dark skin may be associated with ancient images of these goddesses and the color of the fertile earth."

If plot-relevant demons get voice-acting, I hope whoever voices Horkos has a lot of fun with all of his "BUONO!" lines.

Yeah, I mentioned that Maria's battle form was in the promo art. New Mother, or just a new demon?

Its currently unknown whether or not she has a role in the story or if she is just an obtainable demon.

Also, why does that form has her with a T-Rex, a fish, a bull, a lion and an eagle?

I mean, yeah I know that, I was speculating without expecting an answer.

The lion, bull, eagle and fish are common symbols for Christianity. The dinosaur? I got nothing.

Maria, Amaterasu, and Izan A Mi joining the Mothers would be pretty cool if I'm honest. Make it seven instead of four. Make the Japanese Pantheon willingly join while the Yatagarasu serve YHVH.

Being a mother just doesn't have the same prestige if you aren't the boss of your own area.

Considering Mora and Asura are fighting in that cutscene (assuming isn't just a opening vid thing) maybe there will be new areas where the Tyrants are fighting each other and the Mothers stand united?

Mm, not likely. Amaterasu declined to join them originally, and Maria exists as the very mother of Christianity. If anything we're going to see the Mothers split off from Mem Aleph and instigate a civil war.

Amaterasu didn't decline. She lost her memories and missed her chance to join as she was drawn to there to become a Mother, and the new route can change things if Alex messes with things in her pursuit of the protagonist.

Izanami herself tried to wipe out what's left of Japan to "Make Japan Great Again" like an insane Ultranationalist wanted.

Maria turned on Yaldabaoth on the Law routes.

If there is a civil war it will be between those who want to Kill All Humans and those who want to give them another chance, and Mem Aleph would be the latter first unless you go Law or Neutral. Same for Asura/Asherah. Morax wants to kill all the humans on the other hand.

Uhh idk about using Izanami again. If anything I would prefer they use Inanna from Apocalypse instead.

Well, they could say it isn't the real Inanna like some experimental version of this "Mother".

Can they put Inanna in without having to resort to putting "Maia" at the beginning of the name just to keep the "Ma" theme? Even to this day, I still think "Maia Ouroboros" was cheating a little.

Theories going around are that Maria might be either a Lawful or a pro-humanity Mother.

I'd play this over PQ in a heartbeat.

PQ has the dubious honor of being the only Megaten game I've ever played to underwhelm me.

That honor goes to Ultimax story for me.

Ultimax is at least a damn fine fighting game.

PQ is... Serviceable?

The handful of dramatic scenes focused principally on Zen and Rei were pretty good, though.

I'd totally play that crossover too.

I really hope the relative failure of TMS doesn't prevent another go sometime.

Anyone else wish Deep was a remake of SMT 1 or 2? I feel like that would be a more fitting tribute for the 25th anniversary.

I hope we get remakes of those somewhere down the line, but otherwise no.

I'll be honest: They really should do a remake or remaster of Shin Megami Tensei II and release it in the US so that we can finally play through Aleph's journey.
