In this universe, it's probably called Death Valley because he was there.

But IRL Death Valley is in California, while this is in Nevada. At least I think it's in the state, could be the Sierra Nevada Desert though, which also includes part of California.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.Death Valley is in both California and Nevada. It's big enough to be on both sides of the border, although most of it is in California.
Anyways, the show; I think it's pretty adorable so far. I think the best gag in the newest episode was the sight gag of the Tanuki doll named 'Josephine'.
These are the words that shall come from my mouth. I shall be known for speaking them.I did laugh at that moment.◊ <<NOTE: Beware, those who take offense to tanuki nads.
It was fun seeing bits of the short chapters incorporated into ep 4. Even Texas Chainsaw made it to the anime!
..... I consider Episode 4 to be the best one yet, because for the first time we really go into an analysis about why this spin-off was made and the protagonist asks herself why she's at the school, and through that we get more information about the different motivations for other students going there.
Maka declares to Tsugumi that they're soul mates, yet the next we see her, she's walking off with Soul? We don't know the next time Maka will ever see her again! Kinda contradictory and.... not supportive or assuring. :I Not to mention how her best friends can't even answer her question about why they're at the academy either- Meme forgot, and Anya is too high on her horse to even dispense it. But those are just nitpicks. I LOVED this episode, and so far it's the best one to me. I identified with Tsugumi so much this week, to the point where I feel like this story doesn't NEED a villain!

It is kinda satisfying to watch all the startled reactions to Not! ep 7. I wish the animation quality was better, though...
I kinda liked how they managed to combine many chapters to make this episode. Kinda effective, I think.
Some moments were missing, though, like Tsugumi feeling a little guilty about lying to Maka, and a random Justin Law sighting when they got lost in the labyrinth.
Holy s*** yeah that ending was startling. Not in what happened, since it was foreshadowed heavily and we were prepared for it, but how it was presented! It was straight out of a shonen thriller!
So... is there anyone still saying this is only a slice-of-life anime??
Okubo's author note for that volume was hilarious. Non-stop mocking of Eternal Feather.
I forgot the phrase he used. What was it, something something super fun yet super dangerous school life?
Wasn't that what Lord Death said about how things were going to be after Asura's release and the subsequent planning meeting with the available Deathscythes?
I have a message from another time...Yeesh, don't remind me.
I thought Bones was better than that.
To quote the Podtaku crew: "Don't look at the studio when picking an anime. Look at the people working on that anime instead!"
@vicarious: I think it was more like. "Super fun, but savage/violent life".
Ah, that was it, I think.
And I usually bank on BONES having solid animation due to their reputation and how impressed I was on their animation of the fights in Soul Eater.
Eternal Feather vs Maka was one of the only few fights in Not! so far, so I thought it would be a nice demonstration of their abilities.
I guess the studio is letting their less skilled members gain experience by working on a spinoff with little pressure?
More like, there's more than one animation team and more than one director for any show a studio does. Ever consider that?
Wait what? They cut that bit?
...did Tezca Tlipoca at least show up?

I have a message from another time...rrrrrrg.
I have a message from another time...As much as I loved that scene in the manga, I can't blame them for cutting it out.
I just finished the anime this afternoon. SOOOOOO AWESOME!
Is Soul Eater Not any good? I was thinking of moving onto that, but wasn't sure.
I don’t even know anymore. Its a Shojo-Ai Slice of Life series and has almost no combat but if you don't mind that you might give it a shot.
Also consider reading the Soul Eater manga starting with the Kishin revival arc, since the anime has a Gecko Ending and the manga is finished by now and has a way more climatic endfight then the anime.

Given the cover Lord Death likes to use, it would make total sense he'd move his headquarters there solely for the pun. His enemies would just think he's a clown and move on.
