^ Technically he was promoted last season. That's the reason why there hasn't been any fanfare recently...

Incidentally, last season is also when Matthews started pwning La Guerta in my book. Yes, she "beat" him when she and Angel got married, but he accurately identified just how fucked up her behavior was and correctly predicted the trouble that it would be.

It would be a lot easier to dislike La Guerta if I didn't really like Lauren Velez in the role.

My Freebo:Boyd comparison was so apt that it's scary. So not only is Boyd the "standard kill gone wrong setting off the whole plot" but Dexter is trying to pin a crime on Boyd posthumously like he did for Freebo and Oscar!

(I know, I know— Dexter pinned Oscar's death on Freebo while Freebo was still alive, but he and Miguel sold the "Freebo did it" story to the police and Ramon after Dexter killed Freebo.)

Is it just me, or did Boyd get the short end of the stick for his circle of rapist friends? One became a self-help guru, one became said guru's bodyguard and another became a dentist. Boyd? Eating canned soup and disposing dead animals. Whoever the fifth man is (Some have theorized it's the Peter Weller guy) remains to be seen.

Peter Weller as the fifth man would be just a touch too convenient. I'm still smarting from all the contrivances of the second season.

^ About that I don't see how he got more than just a picture of the two of them on a boat together. I mean, he certainly didn't get them dumping anything, as Dexter is smart enough to dump more than 13 miles off shore (13 miles is significant as it's the range of the horizon from any point at sea level).

If it was more than that it is entirely Dexter becoming dumber.

Does anyone else feel that now Lumen has to die? I mean, I don't see how this season ends without it happening. Barring Stiles being added as a "permanent" cast member, I mean. Although, I certainly wouldn't mind that.

In this episode, I kinda expected that she will go crazy and kill her fiance, but after the later part, it's pretty obvious that she intednds to follow Dexter's teaching, and Dexter won't kill her, unless she starts setting children on fire, or something.

Other than that, she isn't in any more imminent danger than Dexter, so I guess she could stay.

Okay, I didn't mind La Guerta screwing over Pascale in Season 2 because Pascale was a bad boss and a loonball to boot. But damn, Maria. Has it occurred to you that Deb's had enough already? Ice Truck, Lundy, Rita (they were good friends, even if we didn't see much of it)... now busting Deb down for YOUR cock-up? Moral Event Horizon.

Anyway, I'm pretty disappointed in Cira, too.

I was pretty confused about the ending, though. It looked like Peter Weller has photos of Dex & Lumen dumping the body, but that just doesn't seem plausable, given Dexter's precautions.

I'm not sure Lumen dies. They lost a permanent cast member; they have room for a new one. Lumen also shows us a road to a potentially happy ending for Dexter, once they reach the final season. It doesn't always have to end like his prom.

I assumed it was pictures of them on the boat as it was leaving to go dump the body.

If only because it doesn't make sense otherwise.

Yeah, this is the last frame of Dexter and Lumen on the boat, and this is Weller's first photo, in the next frame. They are standing in the same pose, but that is the boat behind them.

All this because Dexter didn't care if Quinn stole money from a crime scene. /baffled

^ No, not that he didn't care, but that he didn't want anything in return for saying nothing.

No one can be that nice without an ulterior motive, unless they don't want to say anything because they have secrets too.

Yeah, I know why Quinn is suspicious, but, if anything, he should learn from what he thinks Dexter's reasoning is, because he's got more than his share of dirty secrets.

If you drill down, though, it is, in fact, because Dexter doesn't care. It's not like Dexter would report Quinn even if he had somehow repressed his murderous urges for his entire life. He has no (or very little in the way of) traditional morality.

Quinn was not a murderer (as far as we know), he hadn't screwed over any of Dexter's friends or family (yet), and he wasn't trying to expose Dexter's secret (also yet). Thus, Dexter could not care less if he was a dirty cop or not, secrets or no. Some grand larceny and obstructing justice is the criminal equivilent of chump change in Dexter's criminal pocketbook.

He had no problem drawing attention to himself while taking on Doakes, and that guy had no particular dirty secrets to speak of.

Thanks for the comparison pics. That helps. Not as bad as I thought then.

I always thought it'd be nice if Dex could just say, "Um, can it wait? Killing someone.." when Rita called. Am I a bad person for that? It sounds bad, because I'm focusing on the killing, and wishing obstacles like the wife/girlfriend would go away. >.> I guess it just means I enjoy Dexter's "hunts" more than the rest of the show, even if these foils do bring more potential suspense and excitement...

To be honest I kinda dislike Lumen, but than I dislike anything the “humanizes” Dexter too much. I wish he would act more like he did in season one instead of becoming this quirky guy who just happens to kill people.

It's called character growth, and I'd imagine that it's why most viewers prefer him to Ice Truck or Trinity.

[up][up][up] Same here. I always love it when secrets are revealed, and characters have more information to react to, and not just blindly believe what we know is wrong

So I might be very happy again, because it looks like this "the world would be better wihout some people" thing with Debra is preparing her for things to come. That, or she will decide that the world would be better without La Guerta.

Eternal Slumber: I have to admit I did a fair amount of internal Squeeing when Dexter and Deb had that conversation.

The look on Dexter's face when Deb was coming to the realization that Deb might have more in common with him than he thought was truly classic. They have great chemistry; no wonder their actors married.

EDIT: It was a quick shot, but was that Harrison's nanny at the self-help seminar? I thought my eyes were fooling me, but it'd be nice to see if anyone else noticed it.

Middle. I thought I caught it a little before Lumen got to the hotel.

Regarding Lumen's fiance: I caught him spouting some self-help-style shit when they were talking at lunch. I seem to remember that all of Boyd's barrel-girls were midwesterners. Is Lumen's fiance their scout, and guy #5 in the picture? She wouldn't even try to piece together her fiance with this crew; it would seem so unlikely to her.

Just a thought.

[up][up]That's a good one.

Angry Daddy Dexter was great. And hey, Ghost Dad came back! Lumen didn't banish him after all! We also found out Robocop caught Dexter going out to sea with trash bags and coming back with none. That's definitely gonna look suspicious. Doesn't point to Dexter killing Rita like Quinn thought but still...

I'm starting to hate LaGuerta even more than Acaveda from The Shield.
