This seems like a decent article to bump with.

I knew drill sergeants aren't allowed to be as abusive as they once were and the most common downside is tedium not combat, but dear god that's some insane uniform code.

That part about there being 2.5 supporting crew members for every in-combat soldier reminds me of what someone said of every dead soldier in The Iliad representing a dozen people whose lives are spent taking care of those soldiers.

The Inception bit made me wonder if we have a trope for that kind of plotline.

http://www.cracked.com/article_19004_6-things-that-annoy-you-every-day-explained-by-science.html

I can definitely attest to a lot of these:

  1. The second reason the lady at my college's library talking to herself is annoying.
  2. This is constantly happening in front of stop lights and other places in traffic: everyone tries to move as far forward as possible even if it makes them take longer to get somewhere because they don't have enough start up room.
  3. Don't use bumper sticker, so I don't know.
  4. This is why I never feel bad for just going through a group of people that are blocking me.
  5. (you can prevent traffic jams by not accelerating to catch up with the car in front of you) Vindication! Now I'll feel even less regret when people ride my ass for not speeding up whenever there's another car in front of me.
  6. I can attest to this domestically, since I always try to turn off any TVs that people leave on.

Just how the fuck did that horse make her spend a year at college?

Haha, awesome, I was thinking the exact same thing when reading this.

The article about things wrong with Hollywood depresses me.

If it helps, a lot of those have always been that way. Writers never wrote, projects got killed for no reason, kids movies were merchandie driven. And yet.....

The whole thing is discredited because the author thought Where The Wild Things Are was a bad movie.

Haven't seen the movie, but I wouldn't discredit the entire article because of a disagreement.

Anyone see the article where the author compared having your internet capped at 150 GB's with being raped?

Damn, IJBM got nuked so I can't link the post of the troper who thought The Last Airbender was worse than watching his sister get raped because he had to pay to see the movie.

I think Encyclopedia Dramatica has a screencap, or a direct quote.

Thanks for the reminder Myr, it's there with like a billion Chagen quotes.

Here's the quote in question.

honestly think that we won't be seeing any sequel to the cartoon now. This movie really is that bad. I'm just, right now I am kind of in a state of shock - I really loved the cartoon, really really loved it, and seeing it treated in this way is like, to be truthful, it is like watching my sister get raped, or maybe slightly worse. At least if my sister was getting raped, I wouldn't have to pay money for it, you know?

I dunno, I'd still say the Cracked article was worse, because actually being raped is still worse than watching someone be raped (though both are unquestioningly horrific) and having your internet capped at 150 GB's is better than being forced to wach The Last Airbender

Really, anyone who follows anything pop culture related is gonna be aware of at least some fanfiction elements. Bella Swan has to be the Most Triumphant Example of a Mary Sue in the 21st Century, and there are more crossovers than I can count.

I'm actually surprised that anime-related fics weren't involved. A lot of fanfic today seems to be anime-related, and I could've added a whole paragraph of official anime crossovers. Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha x Fate Kaleid Liner Prisma Ilya and Fairy Tail x Flunk Punk Rumble quickly come to mind.
