On a random side note, I can't stop laughing every time Joseph says "OH MY GOD" in the anime.
I like Kakyoin, but maybe because I'm kind of like him IRL.
Jotaro is my favorite Jojo and I think the HE BLAND is a result of modern fans being too accustomed to hot blooded idiot types and clown heroes in anime. They complain about how the aloof badass is played out but remember this is a late 80s manga and couldn't the same be said regarding Joseph and the influx of cheesy wisecracking action heroes from back then? A lot of newer Jojo fans especially keep treating the series like it came out in 2006+ when you gotta realize, this manga has been around since the 80s. Plus I think people overgeneralize Jotaro's character, he just doesn't sit around Hmphing all day, the guy does have a sense of humor and morals and makes sure the awful people he comes across get their just dues. Of course powers/fighting ability I also take into account and while not the most interesting stand Star Platinum is certainly one of the most iconic and badass. Design wise, Jotaro is by far the coolest looking Jojo too. I feel like the E-hate for Jotaro is a more recent thing that results from the change in general anime taste/industry. Everybody wants freakin Dante in their heroes these days. But sometimes you need the serious guy to take care of business.
Idk Joseph is cool sometimes but to me Josuke does his kind of character better. Thing about Joseph is that fighting wise he's the least exicting Jojo and a lot of his tricks borderline on BS, also we never learned how he learned hamon. I guess the sperm have hamon in them which transfers into the child? Lol. Plus like a lot of anime clown heroes his humor sometimes clashes with the mood and kills tension(Santana meeting being a good example). Also he comes off as a bit of attention whore. I like Joseph, but I feel like the fans overrate him a bit.
But Joseph was always my least favorite crusader so meh.
It being the 80's makes it more understandable in the context of when he was created, but it doesn't have anything to do with how well his character (and stardust crusaders in general) has aged.
Taste is part of it but I think you're a bit off-base. You will find that a lot of people criticize Stardust Crusaders in general now for not aging that well in terms of writing, and complaints about Jotaro are often an extension of that.
I can enjoy any kind of protagonist, whether they're stoic or a clown or whatever else, but they have to be interesting and/or fun to watch, and initially Jotaro didn't really do it for me in those departments. I've come to appreciate him more as a character when I realized that the best and most memorable parts of SC involved him, and that he does evolve as a character in future parts (especially stone ocean), but I get why people aren't that fond of him. I know I said he was one of the blandest Jojo's earlier but I suppose it's just moreso that I enjoy Josuke, Johnny, and Jolyne more as protagonists of their own parts.
And yeah, Joseph is a pretty fun Jojo, but I kinda never got why he and Battle Tendency have such a good rap. I do like them better than Stardust Crusaders, but the writing and art improve so much from part 4 onwards in comparison that part 2 is just a fun but dated relic in comparison.

Am I the only one who felt Polnareff suddenly returning in Part 5 felt kinda forced and...crap?
Dunno. Part 5 has a lot of similarities with Part 3, so in a sense it's not that hard to swallow bringing him back, but it's kinda sudden.
Random question.
Is there any female character, Japanese media or outside, that can be described as gender-flipped Jotaro? Jolyne, while undoubtedly got the badass, doesn't quite seem to have the detached attitude.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Yeah, it did pretty much just spring right the hell out of nowhere.
No idea really. I can't even say Daidouji from Senran Kagura because all she does is dress like Jotaro and thats it. Gonna take a lot more than that for me to call someone a freakin ripoff
I like almost any kind of protagonist, but Jotaro is my least favorite Jojo (still like him, though). The main thing going for Jotaro personality is the The Stoic Bad Ass thing, but I think it doesn't work for Jotaro as well as it works for Giorno. Jotaro's general attitude makes feel like I am watching someone how is actively trying to look/sound badass, while with Giorno it feels like that's just how he naturally acts. Jotaro is also really bland as a fighter (specially compared to other Jojos except Jonathan) as he only learns his ability at the final battle.
Part 4 really fixes greatly both of these problems, by making Jotaro look much mature and giving him the time-stops every fight.
Random thought.
If Kars ever had a Stand, I have a feeling that it would be a Stand...that can use every Stand's ability.
You know, what with having access to every lifeform's attributes and all.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Funnily enough, I've heard he does something of the sort in the Jorge Joestar novel, and manages to use his own version of Whitesnake, Kars-snake, against Pucci.
What in the world...?

I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. If you look closely, you can even see KARZ written all over it instead of G▲CT.
Just what is Jorge Joestar about? I don't know, man. It keeps me up at night.
Jorge Joestar is about Joseph's father during the war and meeting Lisa Lisa.
Then it becomes batshit crazy at the end.
Among my favorite things in Jojo, one thing I don't have trouble deciding is which is the best fight?
Wamuu vs Joseph. No. Contest. (To me, at any rate)
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. Not DIO vs. Jotaro?
Not even close. Heck, as far as major battles go, I'd even say it was one of the worst ones, at least if you ask me. Sure, there were some clever moments, but mostly it was surprisingly dull fight.
See, that's what happens what you pit essentially same Stands against each other. Please don't ever do that again, Araki.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.@Roy: hasn't happened again, as far as i've read.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.Jotaro vs. Barbie, no contest.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyIn Jorge Joestar, Kars could copy and even take Stands from others. It was a whole thing. He also automatically Requiem-ed them.
If they ever make a movie for JJBA soon, should they do The Genesis of Universe, Golden Heart Golden Ring, The Book, Purple Haze Feedback, Over Heaven or Jorge Joestar?
I'd definitely be itchin' for a movie of that last one, but Genesis of Universe makes sense considering we're in Part 3 at the moment.
I still think Kars' stand should be the squirrel.
Purple Haze Feedback and Dead Man's Questions seem like they should get adaptations.
Especially the former, since otherwise Part V will just shunt off Fugo and he'll never appear again.
Well, characters are people who make choices with consequences. And at least he lived.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyHe lives with regret, shame, and self-loathing, though.
Besides, seeing the Stone Mask again would be neat.
Kakyoin was always a character I felt Araki meant to do something more with, but just never really got around to it.
Like, his loyalty and motivations got played around with a bit in the beginning, and there's also moments like with Death 13 where the rest of the group thinks of him as being the most emotionally fragile of them. Thing is none of those traits ever really go anywhere. He's not a traitor or anything, and he's just as resolved as the rest of them.
Doesn't necessarily make him a bad character. As mentioned though it makes him a really flat one.
