What interesting things have you only recently learned about?
To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.
So, what interesting things have you guys...and gals...only recently learned about?

HiA little dismissive in what sounds like a tragic and upsetting accident

Peace is the only battle worth waging.Olivia Newton-John, English-Australian singer and actor mostly known for Grease and a number of hit songs from the 1980's, is not the most famous member of her family. Her maternal grandfather is Max Born, one of the most influential physicists in history and considered one of the founders of Quantum Mechanics.
Born fled the persecution of Jews in Germany and had a great career in Britain. His extended family also includes Ben Elton, satirist and stand-up comedian who was among the first wave of Alternative Comedians in the UK. Elton would later gain prominence also as a novelist, playwright, and director. He also ended up living in Australia, as his wife is from there.
I'd say driving that family out of Germany ended up giving Britain and Australia a rather successful example of what immigrants can accomplish.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.Apparently iPhones or phones in general don't use time signals by wwv time clock.
HiAh, I'm familiar with both Born and Olivia. My favorite song from the latter is "Queen of Hearts", and I learned about the latter in the Modern Physics classes from 2007-08!
James Rolfe, of AVGN fame, is 37 years old (soon to be 38 on July 10th). I thought he was younger!

Peace is the only battle worth waging.I found out about this while perusing through One Mario Limit:
Geez, Disney seriously got mad about Hasbro daring to name a character after the same generic, non-copyrighted concept? That's almost as bad as when they tried to trademark "Day of the Dead" as the title of the movie that would become Coco.
I looked it up,Princess Aurora is trademarked by Disney
https://trademarks.justia.com/771/30/princess-aurora-77130191.html
As it's as part of their princess line I can see why they trademarked it
New theme music also a boxTo be fair, after it was pointed out they screwed up massively with the Day of the Dead thing I think they went as far as hiring several Mexican content creators and stuff as consultants. Kinda better?
The last thing you hear before an unstoppable juggernaut bisects you with a minigun."Jake Paul Must Die" is a You Tube channel...and it's been trending recently. I get hating someone but death is a bit much.
Blame people who suddenly get power and control and call the shots at some company. Ex- there is a movie called John Tucker Must Die. It's stunts like these that make people believe uncouth behavior online is justifiable if a company does it.
like ugh. I know not everyone has the blessing of growing up with their parents, or with ANY type of parent, but the idea of obeying what other people say has for some reason lost its relevance in this world.
Termites are a type of cockroach.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.x 4: If I'm not missing your point entirely, that seems like kind of a silly comparison to make. They weren't calling for the death of a real, specific person by titling something John Tucker Must Die, "John Tucker" was a fictional character within the movie. It's not really too different a title from, say, Kill Bill or Death to Smoochy, it just maybe stands out more because they used the character's (extremely common) first and last name.
Er, anyway....
The lead singer from Powerman 5000 put out a rap single back in 1990. It's really not bad, and it helps that the beat feels less like early 90's rap than it does early 90's industrial (think "Down In It" by Nine Inch Nails, or something by Skinny Puppy at their most danceable).

Earth is the only planet inhabitable by Nicolas Cage. That information on John Tucker is a thing I didn't know until recently.
An early freeway exit in Detroit was closed because it led into a residential neighborhood and was causing traffic to swamp a small residential lane. In 1961.
