Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Yoko Taro, so typical....
Seriously, what the hell? End of Evangelion DVD Menu much?
Everything that lives is designed to end.Unfortunately, I think his games are a lot more effective when it isn't just creepy buzzwords being repeated by a breathless young woman.
It's been fun.So do we have a collective list of all the extra stuff needed to fully enjoy Nier Automata's storyline yet?
Probably see if the Darkengard/Nier threads on 4chans /vg/ have the details since places like those tend to have links in the opening posts. If it's still around. I haven't been to /vg/ in awhile.
Some also post it on reddit.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. As far as I know, you don't need anything, really. Automata was the first game in the series (defined however loosely you want) I played, and I understood most of what was going on. Even if some of the deep backstory and a few parallels went over my head, they were always understandable as 'Oh, that's a reference to stuff that happened in Nier', sort of thing, and never directly impacted the storyline on a character level.
It's been fun.A few of the things they're talking about is the short stories that expand on what happens after Nier not the games themselves. At least that's what I assumed was being asked.
Most peoples first thought when seeing the clip on route B where 9S talk about a god that gave the Machines something to treasure isn't going to be "Oh yeah Beepy rebuilt himself and becoming a Hive Mind robot god that left for space after giving machines sentience" cause that didn't happen in Nier.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Cross-posting from the FF thread:
So Famitsu had a 20 Best RPG's of all time poll a while back; I don't put that much stock in this sort of thing but I thought it might be interesting to look at what games got in.
Nie R Replicant got 7th place, ahead of games like Final Fantasy IX, Earthbound, Final Fantasy VI, Xenogears, and Persona 3. Automata actually got 4th place lol. I'm honestly a bit surprised at how these comparatively newer low-budget games got more votes than those other classic and seemingly popular JRPG's. Not that this poll is especially meaningful or anything but it's nice to see some of the things people said:
Men in their 20s wrote, "7 years have passed since its release. I still haven't met a game that has a story more shocking than this" and "I cried many times at the shocking endings." Women in the same generation also wrote, "It's the first time ever in my lifetime that I [played] a game that made my heart tremble so much" and "Everything [here] is beautiful."
Those in their 30s would write things like "I'm moved by the protagonists risking their lives to live", "I think the term 'One and Only' refers to games like this", and "I wonder if there will be a game that remains in my heart more than this; this title will continue to be my dearest even in the future." Someone even voted for this game just "because it is Yoko Taro's title."
And the producer Yosuke Saito said this to react:
It's all thanks to Taro-san's popularity. Thank you very, very much on loving this niche title of over 7 years ago. Someday I would like to do a full remake or some sort like that. I also hope you'll get to play Gestalt as well.
A teen boy liked the "crazy world settings", while a woman in her 30s wrote that the excitement for this game will be “unbearable for those who like robots and ruins.”
Comments for Nie R: Automata are getting dominated by men in their 20s...
“Thank you, Yoko Taro.”
“It’s complete as a game, as an art, and even as an idea.”
“The actions are also stylish, so even doing simple things like jumping while moving or going up stairs are fun [to watch].”
...and also women in their 40s.
“A rare title which leaves ‘something’ that will be never gone from my mind for my lifetime” “This title gives affection to the characters and made me shed tears” “An excellent scenario that gouges your hearts, unpredictable story development, various gimmicks full with the desire of fun, and all of those are made more hype with the finest music. It’s a masterpiece.” The Japanese voice actress of 6O, Keiko Isobe, also chimed in to show her support for the game.
Congratulations to Nie R: Automata for getting 4th! With the love from everyone continuing ever since the prequel, as well as the much love towards the Automata world, I’m feeling the high tension in [events] like concert and collaboration café, and I’m really glad for that. It’s not an exaggeration for me to say that I’m proud to voice Operator 6O and be 2B’s personal operator. Please kindly play multiple playthroughs and listen to communications between 2B-san and 6O-chan. Long live humanity!
And the producer Yosuke Saito also reacted to the game's impressive placing.
It’s thanks to Yoko-san’s popularity. I haven’t seen the entire ranking list so I don’t know for sure, but I guess it should be surrounded by [other] great titles. I’m very honored for that. Thank you very, very much.
Yoko Taro seems to be very baffled at the result though.
I think there is a lot of people who think “Why is this Nier-something game getting 4th in the RPG poll!?” And so am I.
Humble as always, Yoko Taro.
Though I am also surprised that the game which has been released only a few months ago got a pretty high place. I at least expected this game to be in Top 20.
Everything that lives is designed to end. It's not that surprising considering that it's just riding a recent hype train. I was more surprised by Replicant placing seventh, but I suppose that game might be riding a bit of Automata's hype by extension.
I thought the hype train died down by June (in which the poll took place), especially considering that Nie R Automata was released at February in Japan.
But yeah. As you've said, the poll is not really that important.
Everything that lives is designed to end.Persona 5 being Number one makes me smile too
And Nier and Nier Automata being in the same ballpark as Final Fantasy VII really makes me more convinced that Yoko Taro should have been the guy who directed the remake, he would capture the nuance of the original characters much better then what we have now.
Watch SymphogearI don't think he would have wanted to do that, but honestly, VII and Nier are the only two JRPG's I've played that have been capable of such a big tonal range (going from extremely goofy to extremely dark and upsetting without it feeling inconsistent).

I'd like to see how Yoko Taro would actually would approach FFVII. While the original FFVII is kind of goofy, they're probably going to change at least somethings, I imagine. Like:
Everyone but Yuffie basically had interchangeable dialogue at certain parts. Yuffie and Vincent were optional characters. You could go on a date with the three girls or Barret.
There are other things I could point out that will most definitely be changed, but I can't name them of the top of my head.
But I think the remake of FFVII will be darker than the original, but I have a feeling it will still be just as goofy. I could imagine Yoko doing something similar. Drakengard 3 is both goofy and dark. It's also super weird, which is where he deviates.
Also was it eve explained why Emil's hair changed to black in the one scene before the halfway point of the game? It was really cool but seems rather random.
Eve and A2 were added to FF Brave Exvius western version of that event for anyone who knew about it.

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Kamiya made a statement on twitter thanking Yoko and saying Automata's success revitalized Platinum
I'm so happy for Yoko Taro! I hope good things keep on happening for him.
i. hear. a. sound. After playing the original Nier, I was both deeply fulfilled and saddened. Fulfilled because I had never played a JRPG that I connected to so strongly (it and Dark Souls were my two favorite games of the last generation), sad because the game was soul-crushing and also because it was a sales flop so there was no way it would ever be followed up on.
I was proven wrong not just once with Drakengard 3, but then with Automata, and now everyone knows who Yoko is. I've never been happier to be proven wrong.
After the Scalebound Debacle, Its nice to see Yoko Taro saving Platinum.
Watch Symphogear
Automata novelization coming August 5th in Japan. Apparently a "behind the scenes" thing.
