I mean to normal people who aren't cultish obsessives, 3 generally follows after 2.
Kinda like people wondering who the flipping flip is Namine?
Secret SignatureAt least if you skipped CoM, you could probably piece things together as you went. That was one game, and this was several. Anyone who hasn't watched cutscenes or read plot summaries for BBS and 3D at minimum is going to be completely lost. Having them scattered across several consoles was obnoxious, but that's why the HD collections exist.
I agree about the numbers, but unless you'd been completely ignoring news about the series since KH2, you'd probably consider that the 4+ games released in the meantime would have some future relevance between them.

CoM really should not have existed.
I mean, we all know this is basically true and is 100% going to happen.. There are a bunch of people who went into KH 2 without playing Co M who were very confused when they picked it up.
For the majority of series out there, handheld games from a series more strongly associated with consoles are not that important and perfectly skippable. KH is the odd one out there.

I can't wait for the moment union corss's plot elements will start mattering.
"Are you telling me I need to play a shitty smartphone game to understand the plot ?
-Yes."
... wait, at this point i'm ripping off pancake's punchlines.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."Re:Co M (excuse the Accidental Pun)
I'd don't think that it (or at least the story) shouldn't exist (not without re-branding the group to Origination VII at least ) but I do think it might make a somewhat more interesting prologue to II, Maybe mixed in with Roxas's last week?
That, I can agree with. Last I checked, it wasn't bad for a phone game, but the fact that it started out irrelevant and then gained all this importance later is frustrating. I was hoping it'd tie in more to future games than KH3, given that it's more backstory than anything, but no, it seems like it'll relevant to KH3 on some level, too.
I played II first, with only vague memories of playing through Destiny Islands with some friends and knowledge that Co M was a thing. IMO, reports and character profiles in the Journal gave all the info needed to understand who is who and what was going on. When I played Co M and I later (and yes in that order) it certainly helped clarify things, but I never felt lost or that I couldn't follow what characters were talking about.
Actually I wonder if that's what makes II's prologue so powerful and memorable for me, I went in knowing about as much as Roxas did.
But yeah, the mobile game suddenly becoming relevant to III does grind my gears a bit. You lot have a done a good job summarizing the seemingly important stuff and I thank you for that. Fingers crossed Back Cover covered most/all the vital stuff to know. Of course, Nomura could also just be trolling everyone again.

PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyKingdom Hearts II was my first Kingdom Hearts game, so I was wondering why there was a Sith (Xemnas), Gandalf from Lord of the Rings (Ansem), and the girl from Miguzi (Olette) in the same game.
Turns out that I wasn't right about any of those things. Except maybe Xemnas.
We went over this before but SE's fascination with Star Wars goes a long ways back. The IP is quite popular in Japan actually.
The big problem of union cross is that you need to be japanese to actually enjoy it, since the english version is a apparently a wreck

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."That and it's a gacha game.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.Especially that.
Speaking of confusing story shit, does anyone here know Everglow? Makes cutscene compilations on Youtube?
Apparently, they're making a Kingdom Hearts Timeline - all the cutscenes in chronological order. And yes, this includes X (though probably only the consequential stuff).
An act of madness, to be sure, but you have to admire their ambition.
Oh God! Natural light!I follow them. It's a great production so far but I wonder what it's going to be like when the games run in parallel.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.Well with time travel it's going to be a mess
New theme music also a boxSorry for being a cultish obsessive.
I have a message from another time...Look I'm not making a judgement on the series itself, I'm saying it's ridiculous that a game called Kingdom Hearts III needs to be preceded by six prequels.

x2 It's technically 7 due to the movie in 2.8.
You could even argue 8 if you count the different versions of x as separate.
If you post in this thread you're already part of the cult.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Where do the compilation games fall in the argument of people following only numbered KH games
I'm personally of the mind that KHII being called that was the mistake. Right from the start it was set up to be confusing and to become the cause of endless explanations about which games advance the plot (all)
I have a message from another time...Even if the numbering was fixed you'd still have issues with Days, Birth by Sleep, and 0.2.
Plus we'd be looking at Kingdom Hearts VII or Kingdom Hearts X (as in 10) being the next game.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?
I for one can't wait for all the "no roman numeral = irrelevant spinoff" people to unironically ask who Xion is.
