Still tempted to kick Tom out of his big room and office and what not, but not going to. Though I did kick him out of his SECOND room. Why in the world did Tom have two rooms? I'm down with the founder having a suite of rooms, but a room with the commoners also? Nonsense. I did fire the guard as I see that the place really isn't set up for crime and punishment yet. I've been building cabinets to put in everyone's room.

Also looking over the notes I see that the water was a mistake. That there was no big plan for it, that the previous ruler flooded the place. Really? How do you flood the place on mistake? I suspect that it was vandalism.

I've also come to the conclusion that the magma is a lie. It never existed, and I believe that someone was suckered into starting the fortress here. Ah well magma while a good foot warmer isn't something we absolutely need.

We've been having problems with cutebolds stealing socks. I'm not to worried about it honestly. If the soldiers want to do something about it they can, but I'm not going to drop everything because some creature thinks he's found a cool hat. I've also been ignoring the merchants that have been coming. Why? Because I dislike them. They can die for all I care. This place has bigger problems than it needing more wood. If only we had an underground river instead of an underground lake.

Overall I'll be glad when I pass on the leadership of this place to someone else. This place has nothing to hold my interest. No Magma, no underground river, no gateways into the pits of hell. Heck with all the snow we don't even have ice-cream.

I'm going to have to pass this fortress on a bit early to the next person. Not a full year has passed, but real life things are getting in the way of me finishing up this year.

It's currently late fall, and a trade group just arrived so the next person in the line can take advantage of that. The year is currently 205 so when you reach 206 that is the official start of your turn.

Basically what I worked on during the period of time that I did play was reorganizing the labor, and dealing with the homeless problem. The homeless are still a problem, and I've not even given myself a room yet. As for the person that I made be myself, I picked the Dungeon Master.

I think someone's avatar disappeared, but I don't remember anyone dying. I'm not sure who all had one, but I had thought there was one more than is currently in the Fortress.

A quick look around the Fortress will reveal the housing that had been first built, and I've been adding cabinets to the rooms of dwarfs that leave clothes on the floor. A couple of levels down from those rooms you'll find the start of the Pods, a spire of rooms going down into the mountain. Each room has room for a bed, cabinet, coffer, and door. Some have already been fully furnished, others mostly furnished, and the remainder still needing even the basics.

Near the bottom of the pod spire, you'll find a gold vain going through some of the rooms, as well as some gems embedded into the walls. I suggest not digging down the walls that make up the room to get to those juicy bits, and instead if you feel you really want gold to dig around the spire and not messing up the future rooms. With over 90 dwarfs in the Fortress they will be needed.

I wanted to do something with all that water that has flooded the a number of the halls, but I really couldn't think of anything amazing to do with it.

Also not a single attack happened while I was running things, so I really have no idea how good or bad the defenses are. Well I guess you could count Cutebolds stealing socks, but as I said in a previous post, I'm not worried at all about them getting hats for themselves.

Oh I also completely ignored food and booze, because the homeless had been such a problem. I think I saw a couple of dwarfs going to go drink water, so you might want to tend to that.

I'm so confident that there is no magma, and as I don't have time to finish my turn, I feel no qualms about doing a quick cheat on a back up of the map. There is no Magma anywhere on the map. I think you must have done business with the dwarven law firm "Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe"

11th Limestone, 205

He's gone. Our commander and leader for this year just left. He said, he had some personal stuff to take care of and disappeared over night, without any further instructions. My personal guess, this "personal stuff" has somehow to do with the swollen bellies of some of the females around here.

Anyway, since nobody else is willing to take responsibility for our home and I was standing too close to the office, it seems to be my task to run things until a new leader arrives at the end of the year. Lucky me.

My first task as leader is to order the construction of a massive staircase, from bottom to the top of the mountain, to help future exploration. I also ordered the diggers to dig out a bunch of new, bigger bedrooms near the old ones, instead of the ones the former leader created. I like our dwarfs to sleep all in the same space, it makes them easier to watch in their sleep supervise.

My big plan for the rest of the year is the creation of a proper entrance. The current one is basically just a hole in the wall. We need a big one, that represents the greatness of dwarfendom and can be fortified and defended.

14th Limestone, 205

Merchants have arrived, Hopefully, they have some useful stuff.

GOBLINS! If we survive, I shall continue my report.

16th Limestone, 205

Apparently, I underestimated our military. There is goblin blood spattered all over the mountain, they literary crushed them. I guess, our defense is good enough for now. Still, for the future, we need a better entrance.

5th Sandstone, 205

Syntic Kadolmat, our Dungeon Master, is constantly whining about "not having proper rooms for a dwarf of his rang and status". To keep him from driving me mad, I just ordered some noble quarters, near the new bedrooms, so he will be finally quit!

13th Sandstone, 205

I commanded a bunch of Peons to stop detailing stone. From now on, these guys will only haul stuff through the fortress.

14th Sandstone, 205

I finally found a site for the new entrance. It is directly above the old one, so we wont need to relocate the barracks and the trading piles. Still, it will be much heavier fortified than the old one, able to resists even massive sieges.

2nd Timber, 205

I've decided to turn the rooms my predecessor had dug out into graves for our fallen heroes, nobles and fellow dwarfs. The deeper chambers will be for kings and people of higher rank, the rest of the rooms for us normal folk. Syntic Kadolmat, crybaby that he is, will get one as well, as he still isn't satisfied with the privileged rooms he got so far.

7th Timber, 205

I ordered the construction of a well, as well as a new dining room. Most dwarfs are demanding one now for a longer time and a it will be definitely more comfortable for everyone if they don't have to run down to the river every time. I'll use the partly flooded area in the exploration section, since it is directly under the desired location and it's not like we will empty them any time soon.

20th Timber, 205

For fairness among the dwarfs, I've started to reassign some inhabitants of the old, small bedrooms to new, larger ones and deconstructed the empty rooms after that. When that is done, we'll have some nice, central space for meeting area or something like that.

21th Timber, 205

Brilliant. After one of our diggers imprisoned himself due to stair removing, he died of thirst, because he could free himself, because he was to busy, dieing of thirst.

22th Timber, 205

Again, one of our dwarfs was possessed and created a masterpiece. And again, it was a crown that contained an image of itself in it. It seems, creativity is not one of our strong traits.

8th Moonstone, 205

While digging out the new entrance, a part of the cave collapsed, leaving 5 of our diggers unconscious.

  • Luckily, none of them was too heavy injured and they could all return to work immediately .

10th Moonstone, 205

The Assault of Burns

Another goblin army has arrived to lay siege to our beloved home. While they come at a bad moment, the new entrance has been dug out but not fortified yet, I am confident that our magnificent military will crush them like the last one.

13th Moonstone, 205

The siege is over, however, this time is was not the flawless victory we saw before. Those sneaky beast were armed with iron bows and steel arrows and not all of our brave wrestlers had shields. So two of them, Ònul Migrursazir and Èzum Tathursarvesh died to protect their home. We shall never forget their names!

Amrok, there is a second army, I didn't saw them. To the arms, dwarfs, Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered! It's a sword day... a red day... !

By the hidden fun stuff, THERE IS A THIRD ARMY!' And we only have 6 soldiers left. Some of them are injured. I randomly drafted a bunch of Peons into the army and handed them some crossbows I had prepared for a future marksdwarf squad. Let's hope that they will be enough!

14th Moonstone, 205

The battle has begun, the hordes of goblins against the few soldiers we have left and a some recruits. All we can do now is pray to Amrok and hope!

15th Moonstone, 205

VICTORY, they are fleeing. The new recruits brought the reversal, against our crossbows and champions, their melee fighters had no chance. Apparently the first army we fought was their archer squad, after we annihilated them, the had only wrestlers and sword fighters left. Still, the most important task now must be our defense, for when they come the next time, we shall be prepared!

All in all, the siege cost us three champion wrestlers and a chipper who was surprised while he was building the backstage defense wall. Their sacrifices will remain forever in our hearts!

We have a hero among us. Ton Logemtorish Lîlar Leshal killed 13 goblins during the last siege. He will be rewarded with the highest honor our fortress can offer: Bigger Rooms. He is an example for all of dwarf kind!

The new recruits will stay in the army, some to fill the spots o our fallen, some to become marksdwarfs to guide the new entrance.

[1]

7th Obsidian, 205

The last month was spend mostly by building the defense around the new entrance. I ordered walls to block incoming armies from certain areas and made the mountain atop the entrance into a natural tower for our marksdwarfs to shoot from. For the same purpose a good part of the hallway into the fortress has no ceiling, so that they can shoot down on every enemy that might enter. I also had the old entrance sealed and build a new trade depot near the new one. The bridge is linked to a lever in the statue garden, so we can close this way into the fortress easily if needed.

30th Obsidian, 205

Today is the last day of my assignment. Even though it was never my duty, I think I made a good leader for this last part of the year. It was a tough winter, but we made it through. The siege and the loss of some of our finest brought to our minds how dangerous this world can be. We survived this horrible time and are now stronger than ever. Future enemies will have to watch out, never again will we be caught off guard. I hope the next leader will keep this this in mind when he rules over this fine fortress.

An envoy arrived this moment from the mountain home. I was surprised, I expected a new leader. Instead, he gave me note from the king! I got a reward for the excellent service I provided in an emergency situation. Even though I had no official assignment, I stood up to the challenge and brought the fortress through a hard time. And what can my reward my be? Wealth, power and glory? A bit from everything, I got an other damn year as main administrator of this very fortress! Amrok, damn praise the King for his fucking wise decision.

Nice update.

  • You're thinking big, turning the entire mountain into a castle. I like it.

Tower? I put down the foundations for a bastion outside the old entrance. It was where I was planning to move the barracks.

  • Hmm...are we going to have names for these places, like "The Old Gate" or "Old Bailey"?

Spring

1st Granit, 206.

So here I am, still ruler of Mirrorpass, the small dwarf community up north. After yesterdays message and a some barrels of wine, I reconciled with my fate, it could be worse.

We are definitely on our way to become one of the premiere settlements in the kingdom. Our defense is good and our military has shown, that it is capable of defending us when needed.

Since I am now the official administrator for a full year, I have the time and the authority for some bigger projects. Priority is still the new entrance. The basic line of defense is about to be finished and in the month to come, I will turn the plateau above the it into a full-blown, military stronghold. For that, I need to upgrade our army. So far, they are wearing a weird combination of leather and plate armor, it looks weird and isn't appropriate for an army like ours. So I need to get our metal industry working and organized.

I hope I can finish all of that to the end of spring, because there is more to be done to make our home of Mirrorpass into the example of dwarfendom it should be.

16th Granit, 206.

Curse those nasty goblins, they ambushed some of our workers down in the valley and sneakily killed Logem Kikrostumstiz, an innocent chipper!

Oh and elven caravan arrived, too!

19th Granit, 206.

It was a short fight, against our squad of champions wrestlers the few goblins didn't stood a chance. It was almost a bit sad how they were outclassed by our superior military.

25th Granit, 206.

The elves ones again proved that they are completely useless as equal partners for an aspiring dwarf civilization. Why do we even welcome them, year after year?

28th Granit, 206.

The backside defense wall is finally finished. We can now to welcome every invader from that side with a hail of arrows.

7th Slate, 206.

Some immigrants arrived from the mountain home. Apparently the last caravan brought good news from our prospering community and they want a slice from the cake. Well, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our totalitarian paradise, and now, off to the forced labor!

All in all, we have now 112 dwarfs in our community.

16th Slate, 206.

I reestablished the fortress guard. A former ruler disbanded it, but I can't ignore the rising criminal activity. I'll start with 3 guards, if necessary I will draft more. I also added the building of a prison to my task list. Maybe deep down in the mountain, near its roots, where the sun never reaches and desperation is a dwarfs only companion.

19th Felsite, 206.

The past few moth have been quite, nothing of real importance happed. The new immigrants got their quarters, near the already established sleeping area, but I may will dig out more quarters for future immigrants in the coming month. It's always better to be prepared. I also have a new room prepared for a second dining hall, the old one is getting quite crowded lately. Above the new one is also a second food stockpile, we are literally running over with food.

29th Felsite, 206.

I had a small room dug out, next to the entrance, where some ballistas will be placed. Their sheer force will crush any invading enemy.

Summer

6th Hematite, 206.

I ordered the new bedrooms for future immigrants.

9th Hematite, 206.

I relocated our bolt making workshops, near the bone vault. We are always short of bone bolts, and our marksdwarfs can only use those for training. Hopefully, the shortened transportation range will increase the production and therefor the amount of training!

13th Hematite, 206.

The plan worked, our team started training and we have our first marksdwarf.

16th Hematite, 206.

We traded with a human caravan. Finally, a way to get rite of all those left over goblin clothes and andasite mugs (seriously, we got hundreds of them). I traded it for wood, meat and cheese. Also, some liquor we can't make here.

17th Hematite, 206.

Stuck-up Person has been reelected as mayor. She seems happy about it.

19th Hematite, 206.

Yet an other artifact.

3rd Galena, 206.

A part of the mountain collapsed during the some minor work on the fortification of the entrance and destroyed our Trade Depot. I didn't even knew that was possible!

7th Galena, 206.

I build a prison for our criminals. It's deep down in the mountain like I intended, but it is in the otherwise flooded area, so its always kind of uncomfortably wet.

16th Galena, 206.

I finished the ballista shooting range. Whatever foe will attacks us now, we shall welcome him with bolds and arrows and the granite fists of our wrestlers!

I've never gotten the chance to use siege weapons in combat, though you look like you've got a decent spot. Seems you'll only get off one or two shots before the operators run away.

Autumn

4th Limestone, 206.

I decided to create an indoor fishing area, so our fisherdwarfs can continue their work, even when we are under siege.

14th Limestone, 206.

The caravan from the mountainhome arrived. They brought wood, food and some steel armor, that will help our military.

27th Sandstone, 206.

I promoted Kosak Iteblocun to Captain of the Guard. And what was the first thing that greedy little bastard did in his new position? Was it judging fair and noble? No. Was it the punishment of the guilty? No. Was it demanding bigger and more luxurious rooms? Of course. What else is a nobles duty anyway?

3rd Timber, 206.

Immigrants arrived from the mountain home. With them our community grows to 121 dwarfs. I guess, I'll send most of them to do military and guard duty.

27th Timber, 206.

Another artifact, this time a mace. A weapon worthy of a squad captain, if we had a mace squad. I may hand it over to one of our champions anyway, with their skills, the weapon doesn't really matter that much.

Winter

9th Moonstone, 206.

Sigun Ushilathel of the guard became a legendary champion today. Watch out, ye criminal scum!

21st Opal, 206.

The winter is now fully upon us, it's blowing a gale outside and I guess even goblins and kobolds fear the cold. I ordered to build a wall around the rest of the outlook. Not that we really need it, but it will protect us from potential enemy archers.

18th Obsidian, 206.

While removing some useless overhang, bad digging let to a cave-in. So far, so good, it wasn't the first time, but some of the debris punched through ‘’’three’’’ Z levels and destroyed the Kennel!

30th Obsidian, 206.

Today arrived a messenger from the mountainhome, with a note from the king, concerning the future of Mirrorpasses. I feared a bit, my award for this years good service would be yet another year as ruler of this city, but luckily, a new dwarf arrived with messenger, to take over my duties. Thank Amrok! But, I have to admit, after one and a half year in this cold fortress up north, I grow fond of its rather grim inhabitants. I guess, I take my chances around here and will settle down, if only to see how the new guy runs thinks.

So, that was my turn, I passed the safe game on, back to Tom, who will do a second run. But that doesn't mean that we don't accept any new players. You don't need to know the game, the more you fuck it up during your turn, the more fun the next ruler will have.

1st Granite

Well, well, well… look who’s back in the high chair, eh? Looks like it’s my time to rule, again. Been hiding underground for a few years now, but the resistance grows ever stronger. Taking a look at the town again- gotta say it’s grown. As a matter of fact, I’m having troubles finding my way ‘round. Pfeh, I’ll get used to it.

2nd Granite

Commenced directive ‘MAGMA’. Luckily we already have an underground highway, so this’ll be easy. I’ll dig this entire mountain out if I have to I swear to Armok I will.

7th Granite

Began expansion of Fort Bootrazors. Dubbed growing fort Bootrazors. Also, put up plans for a failsafe in case we get attacked by something we can’t handle (yet something that can’t destroy walls).

23rd Granite

After Rockopolis spent seven days drinking beer, he met with some elven traders. He purchased plenty of wood, but little else.

12th Slate

Some dude got possessed, and is now making some craft item. By the way did I mention this place is like a fucking maze? I’d like to speak to the architect- OH WAIT IT WAS PARTLY ME! Oh well. We have also identified batman as Mörul Ubalthob, soon this vigilante shall be apprehended.

23rd Slate

Batman keeps changing his name, most likely to avoid capture. Some dude created an idol. It wasn’t too expensive… called ‘Wanderedtin the Portent of Meteors’ I believe. At least it had a suitable name, nothing too fancy. All in all this object portrays a fair landscape with a fish on it. Armok bless dwarfhood.

2nd Felsite

Shit. I was just walking around, trying to find my way in the tunnels. It was getting a bit late, or so I thought, and I asked my fellow dwarf: ‘what time is it?’ He responded, with glee I might add: ‘IT’S HAMMERTIME!’ Hammerer has arrived, along with a tax collector, a count, and some freeloading dude.

11th Malachite

No magma. Could still be a pool somewhere, but there’s no pipe… I’ll have to wait for it to unveil itself again in my dreams. My precious sweet substance, soon we’ll be together in fiery passion. Forever and ever and ever and ever and ever… Oh, and some other dude got possessed. BY BURNING DESIRE!

19th Malachite

He made a tetrahedrite statue, The Faded Outrage, it has a lot of tetrahedrite things on it. Like spikes. And images. Of dwarfs. Also the culling of our bovines is being ineffective. They’re breeding faster than we can massacre them. Worrying.

1st Galena

Wait, hold it, stop and flip the fuck out. Why do we have a ballista aiming through the main hallway of our work quarters? What kind of sadistic maniac would build this! It doesn’t have nearly enough room to be fired properly! I’ll have to think of something…

???

i’ve lost all track of time. can’t say if it’s morning or night, galena or quartz. where am I? what’s going on? who are these people? …magma. gotta find magma. have begun construction of new home. closer to magma…

???x2

still no magma. heard someone died topside, more concerned with horses. so many horses… everywhere.

???x3

person had baby, sun caused puking, baby now green. not very good, sunlight. better stay here near magma. magma still hiding from me, but we think it’s near here. i’m making our own shaft… other miners can’t find it. only me.

???x?

i think we’ll just stay down here. they’re calling for us, waiting for us. we’ll find them.

the men they wait, they wait and learn, the men they hate… they hate and burn. the golden hammer they seek, to darkness defeat, a red banner they sweep… in hell’s retreat.

All in all, not a lot happened. We have a golden warhammer, though. That's pretty neat.

New version is buggy as all fuck. And not like "ha ha, that's hilarious" buggy, but more like "fuck, you've been wrestling that enraged dwarf for two fucking seasons, and he still isn't dead" buggy.

Yeah, I can foresee people sticking with this version for a while.

Also, if the map isn't too big (read: 8x8 or less), I'd be willing to give it a go.

EDIT: Or even start a new fort, if that'd work better.

I would return for a new fort, with the new version.
