Because Hanners Mom decided that she did. Maybe this is her version of a gift or something?
This makes me feel a bit sorry for Tilly... not fun, showing up for your first day of work and finding out you're not needed. I've been there before.
I mean, she seems utterly unfazed by the rejection.
Isn't there a trope for a sidekick/assistant who enthusiastically supports their boss with no regard for the boss's ill feelings regarding them?
EDIT: I also find the fact that she has superiors who apparently aren't Hanners or Hanner's mom a bit disconcerting

It's a sycophantic kind of character dynamic.
Fresh-eyed movie blog....Tilly, seriously. stop it.
She's a mid-to-late 20s OCD sufferer who really doesn't need you. Quit it.
I'm Charlie Owens, good night and good luck. PSNID: CEOIII 1117I'm sure there's an ADD-sufferer somewhere who could use your assistance.
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableProblem is, right now leaving Hanners in spite of her mom's orders would be a bigger Career-Limiting Move™ than staying, so she'll stay.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."I really, really think this is setup to put Tilly as the secretary for Faye and Bubbles or for Dora.
Dora usually has a lot on her plate with running Coffee of Doom, but has enough workers to (usually) offset the load.
Faye and Bubbles are barely scrapping by and could use an extra hand for financials and stuff.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Yeah she's a lot less lovable than she's probably intended to be
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.If history is any indication she'll be gone and forgotten for the next quirky girl Jeph thinks up in a few months.
I like Tilly. None of what's happening is her fault. She was hired for a job. Hanners isn't her boss, Hanners is the actual job. Tilly can't just leave, or not assist. Not unless her actual boss tells her she can. Hanners spent all that time arguing with Tilly, but Tilly is not the one who gets to make the decision. She's at the very bottom of the rung here. She doesn't get an actual choice in whether she stays or goes. So she's not trying to convince Hanners to let her stay, she's trying to convince Hanners that the situation they're both in won't be so bad.
So, yeah, I'm fine with Tilly. She seems nice. Very cheerful and professional.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Real-world interpretation:
Tilly doesn't have a gun pointed to her head. If she feels that the details of her job are morally questionable, she can and should make the choice to back off, otherwise we go into "I was just following orders" territory, wich isn't going to fly with law enforcement. When someone who is of sound mind and body repeatedly says "no", it really shouldn't matter whether your boss told you to ignore their refusal.
QC-verse interpretation:
This is probably going to lead to some fun hi-jinks, so I'm all for a new wacky character barging into Hanners life.

If Tilly sticks around, I don't really care. I just don't want her to stay as Hanner's personal assistant. It clearly makes her uncomfortable, and when you're a neurodivergent person who others refuse to leave alone, it really feels awful. She's more than capable of handling her own life, and if I were in her position I wouldn't hesitate to call some friends over to force Tilly to leave.
I am sure Hannersmom could wrangle any law enforcement into letting Tilly stay. Hanners' neuroses would provide so much fertile ground for it.
And again, with Hannersmom, orders may really not be all that far from gun to the head.
Is Tilly a closeted trans man? It looks like they're binding.
That seems like quite a jump to make.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Maybe androgyne. But binding is counterproductive to staying closeted.
Fresh-eyed movie blogNot if you're only loosely binding like Tilly seems to be. Furthermore, closets vary in depth.
Androgynous also works.
The clothing choice, hair cut, lack of eyeliner/miscara/what ever that black stuff in the corner of all the female characters eyes and unplucked eyebrows all suggest Tilly is at least gender non-conforming.
Regardless the art style on those glass's make them look really creepy and I hate it. Guess I'll wait a week for the art style to change again.

New comic? I don't think I saw the one before it linked either.
I still think you're looking far too much into it, but then again, this is QC and Jacques is on a "gay pandering" (his words) crusade.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.I don’t think that Tilly is meant to look androgynous. I think she’s meant to look like a female geek.
By the way, am I alone in finding Hanners’ persistent mangling of Tilly’s name a bit jarring? Hanners has OCD and high intelligence; she usually gets facts right. From Tilly’s point of view, this must look like petty passive aggression.
= Spindriver =
Meh, it just seems like a typical recurring joke. I don't think we are meant to look too much into it, personally.
I honestly thought that was Hannelore trying to be passive-aggressive to her best ability, getting the name wrong on purpose.
And that is why I hope her mom's robot horse bucks her off into a mud puddle. Why, exactly, does Hanners need cute little Tilly?
