I am soooooooooo glad DMC 1 was my first Spectacle Fighter.

If I got to it later I would have been hit by some major Seinfeld Is Unfunny.

Got to Mission 8 before calling it quits. I really wish I could repeat Secret Missions because the the Phantom Babies ones were giving me a lot of easy Red Orbs really quickly. Also, the wiki is seriously insulting me since it keeps making out the bosses to be super easy and I keep getting my ass kicked by them. Seriously, what's up with that? It's not like I'm inexperienced at this type of game. Sure, I'm not fantastic at it but I'm not bad, either. With the bosses, I feel like I'm mostly just hitting my head against a wall until I get lucky enough to break it. The boss of Mission 7, for example, was a real pain in the ass since there were a lot of times where I couldn't even see the damn thing.

Hell, my greatest enemy in this game is undoubtedly the camera.

[up]It's been a while since I played 1, but it is definitely different. It may have created the spectacle action genre, but 3 really honed it and made it what we expect it to be.

Best I can say is don't try to play it like it's 3, this is more old school. One thing that I think is still in 1 is that jumping has invincibility frame, and rolling probably does too. You'll need to be more reliant on hit-and-run tactics as well as using your guns more often.

1 doesn't quite have the spectacle that 3 has, so fighting in 1 feels like of like you have to lame things out sometimes. Part of the fun is finding out how to NOT lame things out. For instance, you can strike Phantom's fireballs back at him and jump on his back and strike there when he whips out the scorpion tail. DMC 1 overall is more tactical with it's combat; certain enemies are much more vulnerable to certain weapons and skills.

Yeah, I noticed as much.

I really loved the Nelo Angelo fight, though, since it has elements of what made 3 and 4 so great. Instead of having a to play a puzzle game before I can play my spectacle fighter, it was a spectacle fighter from start to finish. So far, he's the only boss I didn't mind dying against since he was fun to fight regardless.

I really have to take my mind back to 2001 to enjoy the first Devil May Cry. It's a fine game on normal mode, but hard is where things really got bullshit for me. That you can't go back to previous missions to practice and farm for red orbs makes it worse. It's the same problem I had with Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

One way or another, I'm determined to finish this game. I managed to beat DMC2 and, if I can finish that, I can finish this.

Jesus, DMC 2 was a slog to go through. And I only played that a few years back, so nostalgia and lack of experience can't protect it, even without mentioning what a step down it was.

It felt like one of those crappy DMC clones that didn't get why the first game was good and didn't try to improve... which I don't think was the team's fault, since they added mechanics which would improve the genre later in DMC 3.

Nah, I blame money grubbing executives trying to milk the hot new thing before it dried up rather than cultivate the franchise. It's a miracle 3 even got made.

Fuck those c***s.

I play DMC 1 like it's an old school Castlevania myself.

Well, it did allow Dante to target multiple enemies.

I can appreciate DMC2 because it introduced a lot of things that would later make DMC3 so amazing.

I hate that game.

But I love the people who made it.

Dunno why you guys are so hard on DMC2. Sure Dante only had a minor role and the change in gameplay was sudden, but it's a damn good RPG.

Joking aside, Dante's outfit and DT in 2 were pretty rad. And the music tracks I've heard are pure early 2000's cheesy goodness.

I hope they bring a similar mechanic for DMC5, except using the Perfect Devil Trigger design planned for 4

It was a form originally slated to appear in 4 as Dante's Superpowered Evil Side, but the idea was scrapped for obvious reasons. They're both sketches of the same design, the above one looks more complete though.

So basically it went the way of Nero's full demon Devil Trigger from the concept art.

More or less (which should also appear in 5, btw).

Honestly, Nero's Devil Trigger is like the biggest hint of his connection with Vergil, since both of their Devil Triggers have a built-in arm sheath specifically for Yamato.

So I did some more grinding to get Stinger Level 2, got another Blue Orb Fragment for another Blue Orb, then finally managed to defeat Phantom (for whatever reason, I could not dodge his jumping attack).

Then my game froze during his death cutscene.

FML.

DMC 2 Dante is indeed a really good costume. I should play Nocturne.

Also, [up] shit, sorry your game froze.

Is there anyone else here who prefers Lady's DMC 3 costume to 4?

I mean, I know I'm not alone in this thought, but I just want to discuss the costume change, the reasoning behind it it was bewbs. bewbs was the reason and on what sort of costume would she be likely to have in the future.

[up]Something with combat gear/Kevlar, maybe? She could pull off the whole MCU Black Widow look pretty easily.

(though... she might get compared to Jill for that...)

Hm? Nobody's posted this yet?

Sweet.

Devil May Cry 5 was listed on a voice actor's resume.

Interesting, no? wink

EDIT: Also, happy 2,900th post, everyone! grin
