The Minigun uses the same ammo. Once you start finding those, the ammo will come as well.

Even then I was finding 5mm ammo waaaaay earlier than I should. As a matter of fact, there is some just outside of Primm where the NCR are chilling at. Somewhere in the building iirc.

I haven't really used the Assault Carbine. Automatic weapons just don't really appeal to me in this game.

So question of the day: the Fiends. Where did they come from, how did they survive, and where did they get their laser machine guns?

Robbed Caravans I guess. Other than that they were just raiders who found Vault 3 while doing their raider thing and found a home...I tink anyways.

Assault Carbine is fun. Just rip enemies apart.

First, where did "caravans" get so many energy weapons? Second, where did this particularly large raider group come from? It's never really explained.

This is another place where I think it would've made more sense to just replace them with Legion soldiers. If you take out the chem use the Fiends and a group of legionaries would be basically identical.

I thought they stole them from Vault 3. And their numbers come from kidnapping civilians and forcibly addicting them to powerful chems until their minds are basically fried.

But where did they come from? Before they bolstered their numbers by 'recruiting' wastelanders (where'd you get that, by the way?), they were already pretty large. Plus why would Vault 3 have so many energy weapons when no other vault does?

I dunno. Why does Vault 101 only have 10mm Pistols and Police Batons when all the other vaults are better stocked?

As for where they came from? My guess would go back to Khans selling loads of chems. Or maybe the Legion working to create trouble for the NCR.

Have I mentioned my hate of chems and anyone who sells them lately? Because that alone is reason enough for me to hate the Khans.

@Balmung: I really don't get that. Most chems are barely worse than a few bottles of whiskey.

There's Jet and Psycho that are pretty bad; Med-X, which is insanely useful as something not recreational; Buffout, which is basically steroids, and sort of a grey area since in my opinion steroid use could be justified in a world where it might be necessary; and the assorted other "minor" drugs such as Turbo and Steady that don't get much focus, and really aren't that bad.

Chems here implies addictiveness. And whiskey is just as bad in my book as jet.

I mean, if you want to argue gameplay mechanics, food is a chem, but my point is addictive chems are bad.

@Balmung: ... What.

Jet is a post-war drug created by a giant dickhead specifically to get people so hooked that they loose everything they have getting their fix.

Whiskey is alcohol, created to facilitate moderately less inhibitions in social interaction and/or to "whisk" your problems away.

I just... do not see how they're equal.

Both have withdrawal, which I REALLY hate. /still pissy from getting addicted to booze in an earlier playthrough DM when I needed more healing items badly and took the perk that lets you restore health by drinking booze

Also, so far as I'm concerned, both make the wastes a worse place and should be removed in all cases. And booze tastes like piss anyway, so I'm doing their tastebuds a damn favour.

Incidentally, recreational drinking is an activity I have a problem with in real life as well.

Oh. It's a gameplay issue you have.

Should have mentioned that in the first place, man.

And while I agree that removing Jet is for the best, suggesting that booze should be removed... is just silly. Alcohol is as vital to humanity as water and air.

Gameplay is PART of it. Any booze I found is properly turned over to the authorities, but I don't go around shooting Cass in the face for using it like I would a jet-head. That said, it is also not an activity that I would look to enable, and as such, I do not purchase the stuff.

I just put all the alcohol I pick up (from corpses and abandoned buildings) into Cass's inventory. That said, while I want to not use chems for roleplaying reasons, their effects are just too awesome to resist... and fixing addiction only costs like seventy five caps if I even get addicted in the first place (it's happened exactly once in my entire time of playing the game). I make at least 800 caps every time I kill a mook.

Where's the profit in that? The NCR will pay good money for that stuff. /Ferengi mode

[up]Really? It's stupidly easy to resist. I've done entire playthroughs without dropping any chems because the benefits are peanuts and the costs far higher. And why should I go around getting addicted to shit and dropping Fixer when there are other folks who ACTUALLY need it?

[up][up]I don't remember the NCR paying good money for chems. In fact the only faction I remember that buys chems from you is the Fiends.

Stuff like slow motion, extra action points, and especially 25% extra damage is incredibly useful, the latter especially so for sniping. There really is no downside to using them when I almost never get addicted and can easily fix any addiction with seventy-five caps. Once again, I make over nine-hundred caps every time I cap a Prime / Veteran Legionary, a Fiend, a White Leg, a Khan, or any other kind of raider. Those guys are everywhere.

The shop in Camp McCarren buys everything. I treat this as reward for turning them over for proper disposal.

Or I sell the booze to the Gun Runners to run their shopkeep. Which I assume to be alcohol powered.

[up]Potentially useful, but only really if you already abuse chems heavily and build your character around this; worthless (seriously, it's a trivial amount of action points); and really? you have trouble doing enough damage without chems? An AMR shot to the head (on a sneak attack critical) should be PLENTY to kill damn near anything in the wastes, up to and including deathclaws.

[up][up]Why would you make moonshine? It's worth basically no caps.
