I really like the effect the way I'm playing the game (that being GET EVERYTHING, and to a lesser extent, specialize in the weapons that have exact GRA copies (the Power Fist, Ripper, Plasma Defender <3, 12.7mm SMG, etc. etc.)) has on the difficulty. Because the thing is, I have to explore and kill lots of things...but I can't use the super-secret awesome fudge-coated hyper special gun because there's only one of it in the game, and it has to go in my Box Of Fully Repaired And Modded Weapons/Apparel That I Will Never Utilize. Thusly meaning that I end up getting lots of mileage off of weapons others would dismiss as useless early on, and discovering their practicality. The Single Shotgun, for example, works WONDERS against high-HP low-DT enemies, clearing out Centaurs like they were nothing, and even working well against Cazadores (though they still scare the living daylights out of me). It also tempers the ridiculous amounts of money I have a tendency to acquire by selling things I naturally obtain normally.
In essence, it makes weapons and armor much more rare and requires them to be conservatively used (and I also can't spend a ton on ammo due to needing all the cash I can for hyper-expensive GRA weapons).
Why do you fight? Why do you exist?Has anyone here actually had a character die from a hardcore need?
My latest Trope page: Shapeshifting FailureNope...closest I got was having thirst in the advanced stages. The debuffs suck though.
youtube.com/Fire Trainer 92I dunno most of the penalties of hardcore mode just all seem like pointless micromanagement requirements. The only one that legitimately increases the difficulty is the ammo rate.
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.^ And companion deaths, and healing over time.
I don't believe I've ever had any penalty get to the advanced stage. Really Hydration, Sleep, and Hunger are more annoying than anything. The bad kind of annoying.

#IceBearForPresidentDoes anyone else never bother sleeping on Hardcore Mode? I carry around a bunch of atomic cocktails that I drink whenever I start taking a SLP debuff.
Instead of just status debuffs more varied side effects would be good, like your vision fading out to represent microsleeps. There was a mod for fallout 3 that had a variety of side effects for radiation poisoning.

My latest Trope page: Shapeshifting FailureTime to push for the end for this playthrough. Hopefully I can get the Hoover Dam battle over with in one fell swoop rather than have the thing crash every two minutes.
I think they need to keep the healing over time and ammo weight in the next game. Of course folks love their 10000 .50 cal rounds....
youtube.com/Fire Trainer 92I tend to sleep every night. More out of the fact that I don't like travelling at night time than anything.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Yeah, same here. Fighting at night is all so wrong, especially when you are up against Deathclaws.
But I have the friend of the night perk!
:smug:I give myself the night vision perk usually (direct via console or retaking level 2) because it's pretty nifty.
I'm scared of the dark. It suits me too well.
I think my great great great granny or something got too close to a Nosferatu somewhere in my ancestry.
Anyway, tried to buy some hold out stuff from Mr Holdout on the Strip. Bastard knocked me back. Said my rep was too high or some such crap like that. I don't think that that would actually happen for realsies. If someone walked up to a street dealer carrying enough weapons to fight World War 5 and head to foot in power armor, and asked for more toys, I doubt if anyone would say "No, I ain't selling you stuff."
See? Strip rep isn't even a good thing. There is a reason I aim to be Vilified by the Strip. It's not like there are any consequences and fuck the casinos.
I don't usually care about it one way or the other, but I'm on a House play through and I want Ulysses to acknowledge that fact.
With cannon shot and gun blast smash the alien. With laser beam and searing plasma scatter the alien to the stars.Seen this one yet? It rocks.
Why buy something from Mr. Holdout when you can get holdout weapons for free? lol
youtube.com/Fire Trainer 92There is a mod that gives you kits available at Mr Holdout that let you build bigger guns. Like Anti-Material Rifles.
lol really? The stuff modders come up with.
youtube.com/Fire Trainer 92What is the point of holdout weapons anyways? Most quests arm you anyways. and if random chaos is your goal then just knocking down the front door is more efficient anyways.
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.I imagine it's more a roleplaying option than anything.
Though there are several quests where Holdout Weapons are nice, such as Beyond The Beef (It takes forever to kill those White Gloves and Mortimer with my fists) How Little We Know (Killing Clandon, and getting to the weapon storage possibly. Also if you want to kill Big Sal and Nero without Cachino.) And even killing Benny if you can't convince Swank that he's a fink.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Also, you can use it to bring in C4, blow up the doorman, and suffer no penalty, then come back with a BFG.
It's also really nifty at the Fort. Just come in and start blowing Roman cosplayers away.

ACK
So you know those NCR rangers that show up and are all "ey, we don't like you, you got three days to fix that or we rock your shit" with negative reputation? Well...I killed them. Snuck around behind them with buffs and a Super Sledge, and swiped all their delicious armor.
This has created a problem.
For you see, they...return from the dead from time to time apparently. FORTUNATELY, the only one who pursues me is the chick that talks to you initially, and the rest just stand around somewhere near by. Also fortunately, she is entirely unarmed. ...However...if she starts beating me up, other formerly friendly NP Cs even remotely allied with the NCR start wanting to kill me, which...is not good, since there's a lot of those in the game. And just killing her does nothing, she keeps coming back over and over. ...sadface T_T
Why do you fight? Why do you exist?
Oh yeah, that's another thing I like about Harcore: You can't heal limbs with Stimpaks.
Man, there is a lot of stuff in that mode I take as just standard gameplay.
