I thought the Think Tank's names were clever, all right.

Finished the House ending. I can see that the business with the Brotherhood was necessary to emphasise his ruthless side, and give the route a moral conflict in common with the others. But they could have softened the blow by allowing the player to kill only the higher ranks and then tell the rest to evacuate as the bunker counts down, with the Securitrons making sure they scatter. And give some indication among the Brothers that they will be in conflict with House.

I guess it shows that what House wants above all is control. The Boomers are crazy but they can be directed. But he can't take people in his territory following their own agenda. Also shown with the Kings' fate.

Something that occurs to me: in a game where players are free to create a character and have similar opportunities, most factions need to be noticeably egalitarian. This makes the Legion stand out all the more, and the walk to the Fort has this hammered in. It looks odd that the Legion alone has this, especially given that the Roman Republic was quite egalitarian for the time. Maybe it's just Caesar's own prejudice.

However being race-blind makes sense in a society rebuilding itself and probably having gone through a population choke.

A blog that gets updated on a geological timescale.

The Legion are the villains. The game needed someone to just be disgustingly evil.

No, they really didn't. Black-and-Gray Morality sucks compared to Black-and-White Morality. Gray morality is perfectly fine on its own, especially compared to a different gray. But if you're going to include an utter, smoke-clogged, stomach upheaving BLACK in the mix, you really need a White that's going to curbstomp it and remind the world there's still a reason for the characters to get up in the morning.

I'd say the Courier themself can fit that bill. Plus you've got Marcus, the Followers, Arcade, Veronica...

The Kings' fate with House depends a bit on how you played their quest, though. Sure, House wants control, but only on what matters unlike every other tiny detail of people's lives. Like how the casinos rule, and the petty gangs and businesses that form: he will not crush them even if he could. His ultimate goal, stated at least, is to honestly just fuel and motivate resources towards getting the hell out of earth.

"I have no interest in abusing others, just as I have no interest in legislating or otherwise dictating what people do in their private time. Nor have I any interest in being worshipped as some kind of machine god messiah. I am impervious to such corrupting ambitions. But autocracy? Firm control in the hands of a technological and economic visionary? Yes, that Vegas shall have."

Depends on how you end up with the Kings quest, they are either a possible revolutionary stepping stone for the NCR in a vegas that wishes to remain out of their grasp, or another of many bands that simply resides there and even unwittingly helps the case of House by politics of discouraging settlers from other lands to possess Vegas territory.

I wouldn't know about that. House is never a factor in any end-game run I'm going for. Apart from being a speed bump.

I just finished the game today. Had some trouble choosing between supporting House and just taking over myself, but ultimately choose Houe because while he is an asshole I do believe in what he wants to do (create a stable, politically neutral and technologically advanced society in the wasteland, and eventually go to space. You can sell a lot of things to me if the end in the phrase "and then we go to space"). Having the destroy the Brotherhood kinda sucked, though, as they were pretty cool and didn't really come across as an immediate threat. Especially annoying since I did the quest in a way that should have let most of them evacuate the bunker safely (I activated the self-destruct and snuck out without killing anybody, but despite the alarms blaring the whole time, the NP Cs just stand there doing nothing).

The brotherhood are kinda suicidal dicks. There is exactly one ending where they come out "good" and considering how the NCR treats former enemies I doubt the truce will last.

Its been over a year since I visited this thread. Something must be wrong with me. *checks* Ok, many things. Hi guys!

So I'm thinking about a new playthrough of NV. Any cool mods pop up in the last 13 months that I should look into?

The NCR is like Tim Taylor. We need more POWER!!

I think someone earlier in the thread said a look through the Nexus showed no new mods in the past year.

That's not true at all.

I haven;t looked to see the quality of any of them, but there have been plenty of mods in the past year.

The brotherhood is a bunch of dicks :(

Overgeneralizing as they are, Houses assertions on them are right. They ARE the kind of people who would shoot an innocent civilian if this civilian had lucked out and found some snazzy sort of technology. They WOULD wipe out towns on the basis of recovering technology that they were using.

Thing is Fallout 3 and the splinter factions and Veronica Santangelo are the odd men (and woman!) out of the characterization of the Brotherhood, but they are also the most visible, so it is easy to ignore, specially if you did not play 1 and 2, that the brotherhood are really a bunch of assholes who would shoot you for a gameboy.

Only if you like Powered Armor and Laser Guns. Pew Pew Pew. I'd love to see the Chicago branch in action.

I like power armor and laser guns sad

Honestly grab all the upgrades for the laser rifle and you've basically got a sniper with zero recoil and a huge ammo pool. I rock that thing until I get a amount of max charge MFS then I go grab the YCS.

On the other hand though, you will pay far out the ass for ammunition and repairs for your Laser/Plasma weaponry.

Good old bullets and blunt force can be enough for your general combat needs.

With mods you can make your own Laser and Plasma ammunition out of various bits and bobs scattered around the Mojave, so eventually you only have to buy the stuff out of the stores if making your own bores you out of your skull.

Here's one that does the above, and a whole lot more.

"1400 New Recipes"

"1400" o.O

Honestly I never had any problems repairing my laser rifle, between weapon repair kits and fiends I was drowning in cells and rifles.

Tale of two wastelands protip: If you're not going to take the option to change super muties stats to fallout 3 levels get something that hits really fucking hard by level 20 at the latest. Running into overlords while rocking a plasma rifle is basically suicide.

Well, unless you got the Androids plasma rifle. That thing is lethal on soft opponents.
