WMX is a must have.
Oh really when?Project Nevada is pretty neat. But it's also very complicated, and may not be to your tastes. Make sure you know exactly what you're getting into beforehand.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."It depends entirely on what you're looking for. There's everything from rebalancing to the mandatory NSFW stuff.
Yeah there is a ton of mods. I have a huge pile of weapon mods because I like guns. WMX is a good mod to have. I personally like the Increased Wasteland Spawns and World of Pain mods.I have quite a few mods and tweaks currently installed to suit my preferred play style.
Just on the front page of Nexaus there is a mod for animated chem use, a few weapons, and for god sakes a MLP anthro character mod.
Who watches the watchmen?I won't say I get every one of them, but I've gotten a shit ton of NSFW companion mods just cause that's the way I roll. And some of those companions are killer overpowered nightmares to enemies. I wasn't lying earlier when I said the game becomes about them. When you can run and hide, and watch your red haired, fully voiced cybergirl rip the shit out of a Viper base, you know they're the protagonist of the story. The only problem I have with some of them is the way they're voiced. You can seriously tell when the voice work doesn't match the . . . let's call it tone, of the original work.
The FIDO with all 3 mods is ridiculously OP.
I always recommend the someguy series. The series adds at least 10 hours of high quality quests and a really good (but not overpowered) companion.
There's the weapons of the new millennial pack which adds literal gigs worth of swag and adds them to the enemy loot tables.
CONELRAD radio adds a radio station with several hours worth of new music and authentic civil war era PSA's
Weapon Mod Vending Machines adds (what else?) weapon mod vending machines. Instead of hitting up every trader from mojave outpost to the boomers you can just drop by one of these vending machines! Also you pay 5x retail price. Convenience fee.
And today's completely silly and totally overpowered recommendation is titalfallout which is exactly what it sounds like.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote? In addition to getting WMX, I recommend going on the Nexus and finding some mods that add various improvised and home made weapons, since those are usually good fun.
As a general rule, avoid bothering with things that require or use entirely new ammo types unless you're dealing in something particularly exotic like a 20 mm anti-tank rifle or autocannon - unlike Fallout 3, New Vegas already has plenty of ammo types and from a gameplay perspective, separating similar rounds like .308 and .30-06 is more annoying than fun and the base game clearly realizes this (see This Machine/Battle Rifle, which is an M1 Garand chambered in .308).
Also nice are mods that give more character creation options. I generally like having at least more hairstyles than the game gives you.
Armor mods I can take or leave, but I like more clothing options, like wearing a longcoat over something else.
As for companion mods, my stance is "absolutely never". Then again, it might just be that I retch whenever I see that Willow mod.
There was one armor mod I really enjoyed. Forgot the name though. It was like scraps or scavenger or something. You rip up old armor for bits and use those bits to make accessories. Like you want a shoulder piece from the NCR mantle armor you can make it and wear it with anything.
Can't for the life of me remember the name though
Oh really when?yeah more hairstyles would be nice if I could acces them :(
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clotheswhy do you wretch at Willow? I haven't used hers yet, but I wanna know why you find it so sickening.
I dunno, it's just that the whole thing looks off and something about it seems creepy.
The whole game is "creepy". Those Fiends you keep on killing? See that leather that makes up their armor? That's tanned and stained human skin, folks. See those decorative hands that some of them have hanging off their armor? Those are human hands. You know the reason why they have Bighorn skulls as their helmets? Because human skulls are too small. If they were big enough, you can bet they would be wearing those.
@ Le Garcon: You can't mention something that awesome and then not find it
Willow's alright I guess. She's got some pretty easy quests and some scripting magic but I don't find her all that interesting. I generally find myself teaming up with niner and being druggie buddies.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?Eh I was close. Had to do a little digging around to get it. Personally it's one of my favorite mods.
It's really great, some of the bits and pieces add armor rating, add to your carry weight or just look nice in general.

Oh really when?I've been playing through Old World Blues...
Is this like a piece of Fallout 3 tacked onto New Vegas? It's completely out of tone with the down-to-earth (-as-you-can-get-when-the-central-figure-is-two-hundred-years-old-and-controlling-an-army-of-robots) main game. A campfest of mad scientists who sew up passerbys for now reason and spout thesauruses. Honest Hearts was different but fitted in fine.
It's also very different in gameplay. The Mojave is spares with the occasional band of hostiles, but here I found myself under attack at each corner. My armor kept wearing out, and I got more XP from enemies than from quests. I not only came close to running out of stimpacks, I got critical dehydration for the first time for the lack of taps. But once I got the Sink working, it became much easier.
I still haven't quite understood what was happening between Mobius and the Think Tank, and don't really care. What makes the tone whiplash worse is the foreshadowing for Lonesome Road, which I expect to be gritty as nails on rocks. But silly as it is, it can be clever at times. And it's pretty generous by the end, permanent upgrades and more mentats than I can use.
And whilst it made me smile, can that affair about your brain make any sense in-universe?
I think I'll do Lonesome Road next.
A blog that gets updated on a geological timescale.Nah, the brain part is just silly but the whole theme of Old World Blues was, personally, so amazing, that I did forgive them for that
the relationship between Mobius and the Think Thank is rather clear though
It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesI think Old World Blues is my favorite. It's hilarious and the the story is a bit deeper than you think once you look through the giant robo-scorpions.
Also the golden ending is probably my favorite.
Oh really when?I think, personally, that Old World Blues was the game's makers letting off some steam after a pretty arduous time making the vanilla game, Dead Money, and Honest Hearts. It was a bit of fun for them and for a lot of players who felt that the storyline of the main game and the first two dlcs was as somber as heck.
Lonesome Road, on the other hand, fulfills another function. One that I'm pretty sure is to make Avellone chill the heck out a bit and stop wanting to hit the Reset Button on the whole franchise with a nuclear device-powered hammer.
My mod list (not entirely complete, been awhile since I've booted the game up):
World of Pain, along with the addons for Dead Money. WOP adds a TON of stuff. Lots of that stuff will mangle you and wreck your day. Tech Raiders hurt.
Type 3M clothing-armor addonds (so I can grab the belt from the Reinforced Leather armor and a Bandolier... rest of it is never used).
Tactical Outfit (for females only - bluejeans and a sturdy-looking sweater, some tacticool-looking stuff on it as well) and some variants of it, so I can play dressup with the girls (I tend to avoid the "shirtless" variant... I mean, really? It's the Mojave. Sunburns are kind of a thing, yes?)
Unlimited Companions, because I am as fragile as they can get (STR and END of 1, every time, so I have trouble with bloatflies if it was hand-to-hand) and I need to hide behind Boone and whoever else is along for the ride. Those WOP Tech Raiders? They will obliterate an entire party of Companions. Even if you're six-deep with friends, stay alert and aware.
WMX and all the optional addons. A Light Shining In Darkness is pretty much the best pistol ever once you tack mods onto it. Ratslayer is freaking awesome if you tack mods on it, too.
Willow is pretty decent as a Companion. The older version was good, but recent improvements have made it better. More stuff to do, little unmarked quests and things like that. Her wardrobe and appearance got fixed a bit, also. Better than the old version (less uncanny).
I was using Wendy Gilbert for awhile, but she's pretty one-dimensional, having just the stock dialoge that comes with the game, and done poorly. Her abillity is to highlight whatever enemy she's attacking, but it looked odd if you had Boone around. Plus, it was ALL THE TIME, not just if you aimed at stuff. Sure made finding baddies easier, though.
Some backpack mod I can't remember the name for. As WOP may give you a 4D-storage device (think "portable hole"), these are more for appearance than anything else.
First-person perspective. Because Formal Wear looks awesome in first-person view, and who doesn't like being dressed to the nines once in awhile?
Joshua Graham follower mod. The Burned Man will follow you back to the Mojave after you finish Honest Hearts. I may turn this off (or simply dismiss him), as he's ludicrously OP... but it would be nice to have him along when I pay Caesar a visit.
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.@Tam: Wrong kind of creepy. When I first saw it, for some reason, I felt like I was looking at someone else's waifu fantasy or something.
I tend to avoid companion mods for that reason.
Oh really when?Yeah, I've played the mod and it definitely feels a lot like that.
Though, it was made (and voiced) by a woman. She could be into women, though.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Well, personally, I find disembodied human hands hanging off of armor made from human skin infinitely MORE creepy than a relatively well-clad young female blonde woman type thing that has a dirty great big shotgun to deal with her enemies, but that's just me.
Fallout New Vegas.
