Is Sonic for more mature audiences than Mario?

Bad jokes aside, I'd say it varies from game to game.

Sonic Colors seem to indicate the opposite of mature.

The most mature mario game I can think of is Luigis Mansion, and that's not a mario game.

A story or environment can be "mature", but which games do you suppose have the most "mature" gameplay?

If by mature you mean melodramatic then sure, I guess.

In the same sense that My Immortal is more mature then Harry Potter.

Edit: I know people like to rag on Shadow the Hedgehog but I quite enjoyed it, the rap mini-game and hookers hidden throughout the levels really add to the experience and helps build on Shadow's character. It is my favourite one so far and is the most mature in the entire series.

Yes, at least Sonic games like Adventure 2 Battle-Sonic Unleashed were made for older audiences, as they were trying to appeal to older fans. Though they are kid friendly.

Newer games like Sonic colors are just with kids in mind though. So says Sega themselves. Now why they thought an anorexic blue Hedgehog would have anything but kids as its target demographic is a mystery to me.

Same reason Redwall has cute woodland animals that rival Warhammer Fantasy in violence I guess.
