Gah, I just got MAME, and since I didn't know how to use it properly, I screwed up and now I can't open .zip files (they are still labelled "ZIP File"). Please tell me there's a way I can fix this without downloading something.

Never mind, I figured it out. (although I wish the icon for the .zip files would return...)

Uh, I could use a bit help here. I'm a bit freaked out what just happened to my PC.

So I notice all my firefox settings are gone - option settings, cookies, saved passwords, everything. I already freak out about that when my PC crashes, and then doesn't boot any more. I look up BIOS, and the HD on which C: is has been removed from it! I reinstate it, boot, and find that the settings of apparently ALL programms on C: have been completely erased. Not only Firefox, but Miranda (which I use as IM client), too, where I had to set up every connection anew.

I have no idea how this is even possible! And an intrusion into BIOS is of course... worrying. Two things happened before the crash: I re-opened Firefox the first time since having Java installed, and an update for Avira Anti Vir. Is it possible it has to do with either of those things?

I'm having trouble understanding this sentence, but it sounds like hardware failure on the part of the drive.

What I meant is the HD C: is on, designated normally as Primary Master. However, apparently BIOS just forgot about that, and Primary Master wasn't set. It autodetected the correct HD when I told it to, but I still wonder just what happened...

And now a nice little BSOD, and the HD again dropped out of the BIOS. I guess that means that HD is fucked, huh?

My personal computer's screen won't come on, for some reason. Everything is working fine (It'll turn on and everything) but for some reason nothing shows up on the screen. Another guy I talked to says it may be the motherboard. I've even tried switching out the monitors and it hasn't worked.

For some reason there's this msiexec.exe program that's asking me for permission to run on my computer. I don't know what it would do, so I avoid letting the program run. Unfortunately, it keeps on popping up when I get on and it is really annoying to get out of (usually I have to mash the Escape key a lot). What should I do? Never mind, again... Hopefully.

I rescued two hard drives from the computer I had in 1996, and now I'd like to access the data using the computer I got in 2011. I should be able to do it if I get a cable that will connect them, yesno? What sort of cable would that be? The person who helped with the retrieval said Fry's would have one for it but I clearly don't know what to look for (and my only chance of getting something from them is on-line, there are no brick-and-mortar Fry's around here.

What's the circuit board on a computer that you plug into the mother board and has all the USB slots on it called? Also, what are the basic components needed to assemble a functioning computer?

Okay, I called a guy about upgrading the old desktop from DDR 1 to something that can field actual ram numbers worth respecting, and he mentioned that I'd need to reinstall the OS, is that true?

Another problem is that I'm kind of on a budget and don't feel like buying a new processor. How can I check to make sure the old one will work with the new board?

Okay, I'm trying to figure out how to get sound from my computer to play on my HDTV through an HDMI. The usual instructions are to make sure it is plugged in and enabled, then set it to default. It's plugged in and enabled, but the "set default" button is greyed out, and it says that it's already the default device. There is a bar showing that the computer picks up sound, but I can't hear it at all. The TV works fine on my game system, too.

Didn't you watch Maximum overdrive? You get to a sailboat and put out to sea under wind power only thus avoiding all possible machine devices which may try to kill/enslave you.
