Okay!
So I got my hands on this second-hand LCD TV a while ago, and it's otherwise great, but the picture is all sorts of weird. The brightest bright spots are just fine, but underneath that when it gets darker is things go a little weird, like with grey tones fusing together, and colours seeming darker and much more saturated than they should, to the point where some images are almost impossible to make out because it's so dark. What do you think might be wrong with it?
READ THIS COMIC. | Read along as I play through my games collection!Well, I can't say I know. Don't have experience with that.
I created the thread because some people in IJBM complained we didn't have one like this, so it exists now.
Grog: Either the contrast control (if it has one) is set wrong, or the LCD itself has problems. Also, a lot of really old panels are passive-matrix STN, which was never able to reproduce color well.
online since 1993 | huge retrocomputing and TV nerd | lee4hmz.info (under construction) | heapershangout.comMy computer (OS W Indows XP SP 3 Media Centre) kept BSO Ding at startup recently. So I tried reinstalling the OS with the CD. During installation (it says 39 minutes left at first) the computer is working fine for about 2 minutes before the monitor suddenly shuts down. I know it's not an issue with the monitor itself because I used a different LED monitor and that also shut down and went into Power Save for some reason.
I have no idea what's going on and what I should do.
Ever since I reinstalled Windows on my computer, having iTunes running seems to prevent the system from identifying when a USB device is plugged in.
I... can't even imagine why.
月を見るたび思い出せIE4 keeps crashing, and I can't install the driver for my new external modem because I lost my Windows 95 install floppies. Any ideas?
Heapers’ HangoutYou should have copied that floppy, Central.
dysfunctional human artistryOkay, so my laptop is supposed to make my DS games able to use Wi Fi. My house has wireless internet which I use with said laptop, but my games can't use it. My D Si can use it to connect to the internet and buy download games, but the games themselves won't connect. When my sister's laptop's wireless was still working, that worked, but before that it didn't, and I'm pretty sure my laptop is supposed to do the same, but it doesn't.
@Central: Surely there are copies of that Windows 95 software lying around on torrent sites or something. Dl them and then copy them to a floppy, would that work?
[1995 mode="troll"]Central: All the cool kids run OS/2 Warp anyway. [/1995]
I'm pretty sure he's being facetious, Shadow.

online since 1993 | huge retrocomputing and TV nerd | lee4hmz.info (under construction) | heapershangout.comHey, I've got a Win 95 install disc you could use!
Lee: What exactly about the LCD could be wrong, specifically?
READ THIS COMIC. | Read along as I play through my games collection!Grog: Bad driver chips, for one. Also, there's a possibility some dummy took the LCD screen apart and didn't put one of the Polaroid filters back in (they have to be there to make it work right).
online since 1993 | huge retrocomputing and TV nerd | lee4hmz.info (under construction) | heapershangout.com@ Lee, *facepalm* of course he was, stupid me.
On a more serious note, my digital camera keeps leaving a big ugly spot on all the pictures I take. It's not on the LCD and it's not on the outside of the lens. Is there a way to get it out of there without disassembling the camera?
Heapers’ HangoutBumping, as I intended this to be an all-purpose megathread (even though I dislike them because things get lost in them), and I have a problem.
My Wii has recently decided it doesn't want to read discs. On Friday (same day I created this thread), I got a Lens Cleaning Kit, and have run it several times. It still doesn't work, must be doing something wrong (even though I am trying to follow the instructions).
Man this thread has mostly been questions. Um, I'm wondering, if I take my computer to get fixed by, say a Dell rep, I have some movies and songs and stuff on that computer that I've 'acquired'- am I being paranoid or is it likely for a techie or anyone fixing my computer to pick up on that and like...I dunno...do something about it?
Man writing it out loud makes it sound so stupid but it's really been bugging me.

The question:answer ratio in this thread doesn't leave me optimistic.
Heapers’ HangoutScythe: Pf, they probably pirate stuff themselves.

Fight smart, not fair. The fact that this thread doesn't seem too active now doesn't leave me optimistic.
I thought you guys needed this!
To be fair, there are very few things that do leave me optimistic.
I could've put this here, but I did not.
Heapers’ Hangout@De Boss, I can't use my computer at all right now for reasons I mentioned before.
Basically, it's stuck in installation and the monitor turns off 3 or 4 minutes into installation every time.
My Intuos4 wireless tablet, which is a month old, stops working every few days. First the wireless will give out and it will only work wired, and then it'll stop working entirely.
A fresh driver install usually makes it start working again. For a few days. I've called Wacom tech support five times and they have yet to figure out a fix.
Anyone know what mpengine.dll is? Google didn't help.
I found it in an anti-virus scan, and it looks like I can't scan it or modify it in any way.
