Casting Shadows

"cast a shadow" is also an established term that has nothing to do with the trope. Changing it a little won't alter the implications to fit it.

Actually, I like Cast A Shadow or Casting a Shadow. It fits with the other elemental titles (like Making a Splash) and it uses that double meaning of "cast" (as in "casting a spell").

Of course, it could also refer to the actor-type "casting," so maybe not.

Find a word that means a weapon, or using as a weapon. That is what the trope is about.

Damaging With Darkness? Slaying With Shadows?

Casting a Shadow would work pretty well, to me. I wouldn't think it'd get confused for literally casting a shadow since that sounds like a People Sit On Chairs thing. If I had to guess, the problem with Light The Way is because there are those "light all these torches to open the door" puzzles, or those pitch black levels where your fairy/firefly/lightbulb robot has to light your way There wasn't actually that much misuse with Light The Way, after all...

• Blacking Out? Nope.
• Shooting The Dark (Shot in the dark)? Meh.

The whole point of a pun is that it sounds a little like something else. The only real weakness of Casting a Shadow is that cast can also mean assigning an actor to a part. I was going for the pun of casting magic, which still makes it better than the other suggestions IMHO.

Yeah, it can be used like "casting" magic, and it contrasts nicely with Light The Way.

That said, I'm just browsing, don't mind me... though Damaging With Darkness and Slaying With Shadows seem good.

I found that out after reading it, was here first

Um, just one poster found looked at some wicks, and even then, some of the wicks were incorrect, which means the misuse is greater than 0. There are more wicks than just shown.

Next to no misuse then?

Really though if we rename that one (based on little misuse so far) we will probably have to rename every elemental trope to a bland name.

Strawman, since that thread is not about renaming it to a bland name, just renaming it to one that isn't an established phrase that means something other than the trope.

I meant because of next to 0 misuse I should of re worded my post.

Anyway back on topic should we get a crowner started? there are quite a few liked names.

I like Casting a Shadow.

We should probably go for a single-prop and a multi-prop at this point.

Darkness Beyond Twilight While it'd be a reference to a specific works the title isn't bad and carries a connotation of Darkness with it (and by connotation I mean outright statement).

That implies a kind of deep darkness, not darkness as an elemental power.
