Seconded....though I guess they might hold it off due to the similarities to the CAM story.

You know what would make my life in this fandom complete? If the first A in A.G.R.A. stood for Alberta (Bertie for short). And elaborating on Mary is one of the few things they're obligated to do next season, so... *pumps finger-crossed fist*

I thought it stood for Amanda, and the other one for Abbington.

The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.

Quite possibly! But since when have they passed up a chance to metatext their cake and plot it too?

A.G.R.A stands for the Agra treasure in canon.

What's the reference in these proposed names?

I think almost all of us know by now what A.G.R.A. means as an acronym, we're debating the initials now.

...Actually, I'd only read SIGN the once and I'd clean forgotten that. Derp to myself.

Amanda Abbington is the actress's name. When I think she might be an Alberta, I'm wondering if she might be a take on... well, a severely underrated character I've already said too much about for further elaboration. It'd fit with the sparse ground we have to work with, anyway.

And seriously, who's this Alberta you're going on about?

I think the first "A" stands for "Agent".

...Close enough for folk music to what I'm saying. Seriously, I'm approaching this from the wrong end spoiler-wise; go binge-read the canon if you want to know. But if my hypothesis holds, those people Magnussen knows about who want to hurt Mary but can't locate her are totally going to make an appearance and their beef will be very awesomely explained.

Right, because I have time to read through the entire Sherlock Holmes canon just to find one minor character because you're...what, embarrassed by your own theory? Afraid we'll make fun of it?

-sigh- Sorry if that sounded angry. I didn't mean it that way. But seriously. No need to be shy about your possibly crackpot theory. -shrug- But whatever.

I confess I have read the entire Canon (including How Watson Learned the Trick!) and am struggling to recall who you're referring to. One of the Baker Street Irregulars?

I've read all of the stories at one point too, and I don't know who he's talking about.

Okay, fine, highlight if you've read the Canon, because my reason for reticence is I really don't want to spoil the original story: I think she might be a gritty modernization of Birdy Edwards, the Pinkerton agent who infiltrated the Scowrers in Valley of Fear. (Of which he is the deuteragonist, thank you very much, but once you hit sixty separate narratives, I guess even characters who get half a novella qualify as minor in the grand scheme of things. Heh.)

So, I watched all 9 Sherlock movie-length episode on netflix about a month ago but only know found this topic. Can I say how awesome this show is? Sherlock and John are so good onscreen, the mysteries are fun to watch, and the antagonists are threatening and memorable.

Just picked up the series today. Finished episode 2 just now. Good shit. How'd I never know about this before?

P.S. I hate Moriarty's voice.

P.P.S. Sweet Cher, does A Scandal In Belgravia ever fucking end?

This was probably discussed earlier when series three was aired, but I wasn't here then, and I'm sure there are other new people, or people that hadn't seen it yet, so: what did you think about this season as compared to the first and second?

[up] It's been awhile since I watched it, but from what I can remember I enjoyed it a lot. Compared to the first two seasons though, it felt like there was less of an overarching plot, whereas seasons one and two had Moriarty pulling the strings behind nearly every episode's mystery. I think Magnussen was doing the same for season three, I can't remember but...eh, if he was it didn't really feel like it.

The best bits are Sherlock failing to fully explain his being alive and how he deals with Magnussen in the end. And Irene cameo.

[up]I actually think it was the other way around...there was barely any built-up for Moriarty (aside from people muttering his name), and the episodes were very much stand-alones. The third season was more interconnected, with important clues for the last episode being hidden in the first two. It was more subtle, but more connected overall.

I can understand that...I'll phrase it differently. The payoff for the first two seasons was better. I preferred Moriarty's Joker-esque mind games to Magnussen's "it's all in my head so you can't win haha." That was a disappointing way for him to end up with the upper hand to me, which I guess was the point in bringing Sherlock down to the human level of shooting him in the head rather than outsmarting him like we expect him to.

Overall I just really didn't like Magnussen. Unlike Moriarty who's such a Love to Hate kind of character, Magnussen's a real unlikable and petty bastard.
