Because people kept harassing him. People are dicks like that.
And because he's apparently bad at procrastinating and it was eating up his time.
The official story was the procrastination part (fairly believable considering he's the brains behind two shows, one of which has dipped slightly in quality since his first season and one that takes three-year hiatuses, and shooting on the Doctor Who Christmas special got pushed back behind the first block of 7B shooting because he was that badly behind), but the harassment is not much of a secret.
Fresh-eyed movie blog...I don't see how any of his two shows dipped in quality, and if they did it rose again with the third season.
Let's not start another "Moffat is great/Moffat is a horrible" debate alright? I get enough of that in the Doctor Who thread.
Anyways- what's everyone's expectations for season 3?
"You are never taller then when standing up for yourself"Sherlock somehow going from being hated and dead to alive and respected.
Cases being solved.
Maybe alive and forgotten?
Sherlock didn't dip in quality. Doctor Who did in s6. S7 is an improvement, but from a storytelling stance, still doesn't quite live up to S5.
Fresh-eyed movie blogExpectations?
Apart from the bit about Harry I already mentioned, I expect to see John meet Mary in either Ep. 1 or 2. And when he does, she will totally get his name wrong and call him James by mistake the first time they see each other. Really hope they make Mary just as Adorkable as John. I don't think we'll see them marry until at least the third episode, though.
I will also be disappointed if they don't make at least one Doctor Who reference, given that DW lately has been absolutely loaded with Sherlockian shoutouts.
Also, I expect one of the episodes to air on January 6th, 2014. If not, they at least have to release some sort of special content to mark Sherlock's 160th birthday.
3DS Friend Code: 0018-0767-4231I was really disappointed in the second series that John's girlfriend from the first series left him off screen for basically the same thing she was shown sticking with him in spite of previously.
When your first date ends with her being abducted and tied up in front of a machine that's going to shoot an arrow at her, and she's still up for a second date, nothing's going to make her leave.
Fresh-eyed movie blogZoe Telford had another show to go to, is probably the only reason that happened.
This post has been powered by avenging fury and a balanced diet.Yeah, that was my guess too. Plus, I really think that Sarah would have been just a distraction in season 2. Aside from the Christmas scene, I really don't see any room for her.
I guess new Sherlock watchers have now kind of a problem from having really high expectations after all the hype. But I don't believe that the show is overrated at all. It deserves every bit attention it gets. But it's kind of in the human nature, if something is really successful, we start looking for the faults, just to be able to say "but it's not THAT good" and being able to sleep better in the knowledge that perfection can't be obtained. A lot of criticism concerning the show is missing the point, though. I'm especially amused when I read that John is just a useless sidekick and doormat, who is constantly mistreated by Sherlock. I guess those people who say that missed the part where John shot the cabbie, photographed the cipher, told Sherlock about the guards obsession with astrology and above all kept Sherlock grounded when he needed it. Or the part when he tells Sherlock off for being out of line again. Or the part when Sherlock cures John's limp, makes sure that he eats (did you notice that in nearly every episode is one scene in which Sherlock takes John to a dinner while he just waits for him to finish his meal?) and steals an ashtray for him.
The only thing I really want is John either punching Sherlock, fainting, or both. Punching, because it is so in John's character that pretty much every reunion fanfic has him punch Sherlock, and fainting because that's what he did in the original story.
I've actually got a pretty clear image in my head about it. He faints, and when he wakes up Sherlock's hovering over him and is all relieved but he's cut short by John punching him in the face mid-sentence. Something like that.
I think a lot of people will be slightly disappointed if he doesn't punch him. I know I'll be a little.
Yeah...but I would be also disappointed if he doesn't faint. And if he punches him he should avoid his teeth and nose.
Yeah, the fandom has pretty much unanimously decided that someone will end up on the floor, the three possibilities being:
1. John faints and ends up on the floor.
2. John punches Sherlock, and he ends up on the floor (out cold).
3. John tears Sherlock's clothes off and they both end up on the floor.
...Well, okay, I think we can safely rule out one of those possibilities...
'Coz, I mean, there's just no way that Martin Freeman's version of Watson is gonna faint, right guys?

I don't think that anyone will mind him fainting as long as Sherlock is fast enough to catch him.
Gatiss is writing the episode, and has hinted that we'll be getting something a bit more aggressive than a faint. Could be a punch, could be a Cluster F-Bomb, could just be a wave of passive-aggression or the silent treatment.
I think someone has to faint, though. I'm hoping for Lestrade or Mycroft. Or Anderson. I think I want to see Anderson's reaction most of all.
And Mrs Hudson has to have a hysteric tantrum as per the Canon. Or just give him a stern scolding and lock him out of the flat. Either works.
3DS Friend Code: 0018-0767-4231Not actually true. Having that happen once can easily be written off as just bad circumstance, and also more Sherlock's fault than John's, since he shanghaied their date. If it continues to happen, it becomes John's fault for continuing to allow Sherlock to do it; once it becomes a pattern, then John is complicit in putting his relationship with Sherlock over your very wellbeing, and that is not a man you want to continue to be around.

Ahem. I see no problem with #3. None what so ever. :3
"You are never taller then when standing up for yourself"I don't think Sarah left John because of the danger or anything. It was probably just normal relationship problems.
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again. The implication was he was always putting Sherlock's need and concerns ahead of her's.
"You are never taller then when standing up for yourself"Which is a valid complaint, because he does, and that's not a good dating prospect. Nobody wants to come second in their lover's life. It might be different if it's a cause, a faith, a responsibility, etc...but here it's a person, and that is not okay.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Well, at least she lasted long enough that Sherlock could remember her name.
He just couldn't remember her face.
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.Anyone got any characters/stories from the Canon they really want to see next series? I'd like to see Charles Augustus Milverton. Also, The Illustrious Client was a great story- it would be interesting to see how they update that one.
3DS Friend Code: 0018-0767-4231Ditto on wanting to see Milverton, I'd also like to see an update on The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire, and The Copper Beeches to see what they can do with Violet Hunter.
I can't have you close, so I become a ghost and I watch you, I watch you.
Why did Moffat delete his Twitter?
