I think writing the best episode of the second season goes a long way to forget the confusion which was TBB. That the middle episode of every season feels disconnected from the other two seems to be more an arc issue than a particular writer issue.
They're disconnected, sure, but they're also actively poorer than the surrounding material. Moffat certainly co-wrote both finales — I think there's a quote where he says he did for the second season, at least, and the first season finale isn't very Gattiss — which might have contributed to their stronger quality.
This post has been powered by avenging fury and a balanced diet.I don't think the problem of Ho B are really in the script, I think the problem was the decision not to show the monstrous hound Sherlock sees early on. Since we didn't see it, there wasn't really much of a mystery, it was pretty much clear that it was only in his imagination. This sucked a lot of suspense out of the episode. I'm normally all for "less is more", but in this case, it was necessary to create an atmosphere of real danger. When it's pretty much clear that it's only a hallucination, you just don't feel afraid. If the episode had manage to capture the feel of some of the earlier adaptations of the book, I bet nobody would care if the mind altering smog makes sense or not.

hashtagsarestupidWait, John's sister is married to Clara Oswald?
No she only has eyes for the doctor.
hashtagsarestupidWell, it's possible that one of Clara's time echoes had eyes for Harry.
This is my silly headcanon now.

Sorry. I didn't mean to use the C word, unnoun.
That wasn't necessarily what I was referring to.
Well, in the Sherlock universe, same sex marriage is apparently allowed, considering that Mrs. Turner next door has "married ones"....but even more likely what they are talking about is "civil partnership"...it's something similar to a marriage, and I guess, most people don't make the distinction. If they talking about this, Harry can't have been married for that long, because that doesn't exist for that long. Perhaps this was the reason for the separation...perhaps they got married just because they finally could and married life didn't suit Harry at all. Either way, there is nothing about Harry being adulterous in the dialogue. Only that the split up was her decision.
Mark Gatiss referred to himself as "married" even before the law was passed, so either it's a civil partnership, or a slight tweak to reality to satisfy the writers' wishes.Doctor Who has a very similar approach.
On Harry- nothing on the blogs suggests she was adulterous, although her alchoholism is treated as an ongoing issue. The relationship between her and John is surprisingly well fleshed out even just through the comments.
There is, unfortunately, a lot of evidence for Harry getting Fridged during the hiatus. In the original stories, Watson's brother is dead when we first hear about him- we never meet him in person. Secondly, Watson's wife dies during Holmes's absence, and Watson's grief is part of what motivates Holmes to come back- John doesn't have a wife, so they might have to fridge someone else who was close to him. Thirdly, the title of the first episode of S3- "The Empty Hearse"- something to do with funerals, perhaps?
Clara being that Clara has more weight when you remember that at least one of the time echoes (Oswin) was bi-curious.
And now I want some Wholock even more.
"SHERLOCK!"
"Yes, Doctor?"
"You threw my companion in a dumpster!"
"I was eliminating the impossible. Besides, she was distracting John."
3DS Friend Code: 0018-0767-4231More likely Sherlock's funeral. Him not actually being dead and all.
Fresh-eyed movie blogWe'll see...I'm still hoping that the writers will explore the possibility of John getting married, though (and later, next season or so, loosing his wife). Nearly all Holmes adaptation out there skip over this part of the story.
It's been a while since I read that part of the books, but I don't remember anywhere in the story where it mentions Mary dying. I do remember quite a few scenes where it's mentioned that Watson is helping Holmes out less on his cases because he gets married and starts up his own medical practice, until it gets to the point where eventually Watson isn't there at all and then Holmes retires and leaves London. Holmes himself even mentions this in one of the couple of cases that takes place from his point of view. His comment was something to the effect of Watson abandoning him for a wife.
There is talk about Watson's sad bereavement in "The empty house" and in "The Norwood builder" it's explicitly stated that Watson sold his praxis and moved back to baker street. I guess the true love angle was a little bit impractical for the stories.
Judging from the protests I kind of think they do xD. I guess is it's wishful thinking on the writers part. Hell I understand that. But a contemporary depiction of Sherlock Holmes needs to depicte contemporary society as it is. Even the bits of society that aren't as you would like them to be.

hashtagsarestupidAren't the protests about a civil partnership getting the same rights as a married couple gets? Either way, what I meant is that I suspect that nobody says "My two gay friends are in a civil partnership", but everybody would simply say marriage because the idea behind it is the same. Two people committing to each other.
Yeah, there are differences in the legal states.
This post has been powered by avenging fury and a balanced diet.I think Moffat enjoys trolling the fandom. A great deal.
"You are never taller then when standing up for yourself"I got caught up on this show a little bit ago. it was good, little overrated and not my favorite Sherlock adaptation, but still good.
nyo ho hoIs Moffat back on Twitter? I thought he deleted his account...
But yeah, they're really outdoing themselves in the trolling department for this upcoming season. I'm pretty sure all those pics of Derren Brown hypnotising John were a setup to mislead us.
3DS Friend Code: 0018-0767-4231There are like a dozen fake Moffat accounts after he deleted his old one. It's kinda funny. And sad.
Try his wife instead. If she brings it up or retweets it, it was probably him.
That's old. He posted that a few hours before Reichenbach.
Fresh-eyed movie blog
Thompson's totally the Butt Monkey of the Sherlock crew.
The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.
