There's probably a good server variance. I roll on Virtue, personally... but that doesn't mean much at the moment seeing as how I'm at sea for a couple more weeks and can't play MM Os.

My main server is Union.

I'm pretty much entirely on Guardian. I used to be on Virtue somewhat, too, but I pretty much stopped going there.

So... what's the troper take on this whole Gunslinger Pack mess? Er, for those who weren't really paying attention, basically they put out a new costume pack labelled 'Gunslinger'... with all the female costume pieces being, well, delicately, 'saloon girl'. I'm not sure how I feel about the whole thing- I don't have any female characters, but I can understand the annoyance of the people that do, and frankly the male pieces are ugly anyway.

So I finally figured out how to get in...I'm an Energy Blaster up to level 6 and despite my computer dying every half hour, it's pretty fun.

I just wish I knew HOW to not make it die as much as it has for years now. ;/

The answer is probably "Get a new computer."

Also, lololol your computer is just like your blaster

...level six?

My Blaster is probably way better than my computer. >_> He doesn't die half as proportionally to the time I'm using him.

It's fine. I usually classify myself as a Glass Cannon anyway.

My other choice was gonna be a Scrapper, but the only Power Sets I wanted in it was Broad Sword or Katana.

Oh well, maybe for my next hero...

Scrappers are pretty newbie-friendly. I recommend them.

Okay, the I22 beta is up for testing.

Sorry to be a bit of a thread necromancer, but I have a question regarding Co H. I'm thinking of making an account, and I've done rudimentary research on the classes, where I'll be starting, the power sets, and the early factions I'll be facing. However, my research hasn't quite clarified one thing. What level will I have to reach to start dealing with the Skulls?

Skulls? The faction runs from levels 1-15, if memory serves. This is an exceptionally useful resource; the forums are also surprisingly friendly and, as I've noted before, somewhat less prone to fits of baby-eating rage than other MMO forums I've encountered. Oh- and the Vidiotmaps map overlay from here is exceptionally useful, as it details what enemies are in what areas of each zone, among many other things.

Thanks. I'm also wondering which class is easiest to learn the game with.

Scrapper, definitely. You run around and smack things. There's no special thing you gotta do besides that.

Well, you do have to deal with a bit more endurance management than you would on a blaster, but that's about it.

In order of newbie-friendliness, I'd probably say:

  • 1. Scrapper
  • 2. Blaster
  • 3. Brute
  • 4. Corruptor
  • 5. Defender
  • 6. Mastermind
  • 7. Dominator
  • 8. Stalker
  • 9. Controller
  • 10. Tanker

If you're including the Epic Archetypes, Peacebringers would probably rank somewhere in the 5-10 range, depending on your playstyle and build (although likely above Tankers in the final ranking still), Warshades would probably fall somewhere between 4 and 8 (again, depending on your playstyle and build), Arachnos Widows would probably be in the 1-3 range, and ditto Spiders.

One caveat (aside from the obvious 'this is just opinion one) is that Stalkers have recently undergone some fairly sweeping changes, and it might change their ranking sharply- really not sure.

... one other caveat: this is mostly an ease-of-use ranking, not saying anything about relative power levels or anything like that; a group of Defenders can melt the face off anything in the game in perfect safety with only minimal optimization, a high-level Tanker can stand there doing the Russian squat-dance while everything in a three-mile radius is trying to kill them, certain varieties of Mastermind can wander through the game and largely ignore the mobs while their pets chew up and spit out anything that so much as looks at them, and some Controllers can do things that normally require eight-man teams (or multiple eight man teams) without breaking a sweat, just as a few examples. And that's before you get into the crazy, game-breaking builds that some people mash together to see just to see what you can do.

Okay, I'm trying to install it, and every time I do, I get a message that says "City of Heroes was NOT installed! - 2". I have two questions:

  • 1. What does the "2" mean?
  • 2. How do I get it to install?

Right off the bat, I'd say all the melee A Ts are best to start off with.

Scrappers topping the list with Brutes close behind, simply because Brutes have a very specific pace they need to be run to be most effective. Tankers next because they are essentially slower, tougher Scrappers. As of the recent changes, Stalkers come a lot higher now being Scrappers that are barely a little more fragile, can turn invisible and are stronger at dealing damage to single targets than crowds as compared to Scrappers.

Of the remaining, Dominators and Controllers probably come next, followed by Masterminds with the caveat that they can require a lot of micomanagement, Corruptors and Defenders would be tied for next with Blasters pulling out the bottom of the list because, while they may be straight forward to play, they're called the "floor inspectors union" for a reason; their fragile nature and need for near kamikaze-style gameplay takes a bit to get used to.

This is all one person's opinion, of course.

Sorry, Test... couldn't tell you. Maybe try the official forums in the tech support section.

Also, I ranked Tankers very low because they do poor damage and at the outset, don't survive very well either (since they don't have the powers they need yet). Blasters tend to be pretty easy to get into, but fall off a bit in the lategame.
