And TWOT isn't particularly forgiving in that regard, given that there are reams and reams of characters, of varying degrees of importance. Given the length of time between some installments, I've frequently had to go back and reread the whole series when a new book came out, just so I could remind myself who everyone was. Before Sanderson took over I'd completely forgotten Noal, much less who he REALLY was...

I remember when I filled out some school book report thingie using one of the later WOT books. There was a prompt for listing the main characters. I genuinely thought about it, and listed about twenty names. From memory.

It varies wildly from fan to fan, though it's generally agreed that Crossroads Of Twilight is the weak point.

For me it's a three way tie between Lord Of Chaos, Crown Of Swords, and recently The Gathering Storm

Crown of Swords? Really? Isn't that the part in the series where it really went downhill in terms of quality before redeeming itself with The Gathering Storm?

A Crown Of Swords has some of Mat's most awesome moments as well as generally amazing storytelling and character development.

Path Of Daggers is where things started to slide a bit.

If you ask me, the Japanese covers look pretty shitty. And isn't Rand's hair blond with a reddish tint? Correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a long time since I've read the books.

As for the book art, the American versions are superior in this case. I mean, normally I wouldn't type this, but there you go.
