Give the second episode a chance. It's not groundbreakingly awesome or anything, but it has some great jokes and laugh and out moments at least.
Emperor Wu liked cake, but not exploding cake!Seriously, it's really stupid when you don't give something a chance because the first sucked. The second is written by other people entirely, you can tell.
I watchee them both, but the second didn't hold my interest past the first act even though it was still on, while the first was good except for permeating cheap jokes. They were both one trick ponies with a well done non-recurring character that tried to salvage the episode from the cast's stupidity, but couldn't before the end. That just makes me think the only thing keeping nothing from being gained in the episode was both episodes centering on Compressed Vice Syndrome.
Also, I used to love to hate Zapp. With these new seasons, now I just hate him.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyA bit late, but here goes anyway:
The first episode... well, to be honest, I blocked most of it from my memory. Not only was it offensive (at first, it was just my inner feminist who whimpered and stopped listening, but by the end, he was was joined in the happy-happy land by my inner male chauvinist and my consciousness), it wasn't even clever. It might be just my overall exposure to this here dangerous substance, but nothing in this episode was unexpected. This was not the Futurama I remembered. It was strangely familiar to all those specials, though. I guess not every show deserves returning, and Futurama runs at full speed into this area.
The second episode was... average. Probably the only funny part was during the giant alien's attempt to apologise, and one sort-of-joke does not a Futurama make. And besides, did you really have to press the Reset Button on Scruffy?
So, in conclusion, I'm still going to give Futurama a chance, but it's quickly heading towards Family Guy levels of awfulness.
Nothing will approach Family Guy's level of awfulness. EVER.
That exaggeration was worse than HITLER!
The sad, REAL American dichotomyI am honestly not exaggerating. I stopped watching that months ago because it was so brain dead.
Only months?
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Yeah, months? I stopped around the time American Dad started (I've since realized that show is consistently good). Of course, I don't watch much tv anyway.
I was making a reference to the image on thw D Mo S Family Guy page.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyI wouldn't mind the Family guy if 75% of the complaints about it weren't whiny.
Along with the gender jokes being lazy, they came out of nowhere. "This week, all the males on the Planet Express staff are suddenly gigantic sexist jerkasses!!" And as noted, the off-screen Scruffy re-set sucked. They even included him in the next episode when there was no particular reason for him to be in the scene, like they were specifically calling attention to it.
The second one was better, but.. all the water on the planet gets turned to booze, half the city gets gnawed away, and next week.. again, everything will be back to normal.
I did like the bit where only Amy and Hermes gasped at the Horrifying Equation.
That part was pretty funny. Reminders of how Amy isn't a complete idiot are appreciated.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyHow sexist were they? Were they reaching Zapp levels or what? Because a few of the male characters have been kinda sexist at times throughout the series.

"You know, you never cook enough roasts, Leela."
It's not over. Not yet.Didn't Professor Farnsworth say that in the Roswell episode?

Yeah, that was from the Roswell episode. And even little stuff like that is believable. The recent one though was just to ridiculous proportions, to the point where it stretched credibility that they would really all act like that.

Emperor Wu liked cake, but not exploding cake!4 NUL Lc Hi LD 27: Yes, Zapp levels of sexism. From everybody. The entire episode. (Although Zapp himself turning up when he did was one of the more amusing moments.)
The second episode had a similar problem, although not nearly as bad or prolonged, when "everyone gets drunk" equaled "absolutely everyone relentlessly insults the ugly guy."
Of course, the Professor's line to Leela from the Roswell episode was so help them blend in with the way of life in the 1940s, he wasn't being sexist on purpose. As for the first two episodes, as with others I agree the second was better than the first, and both were light years ahead of some of the earlier episodes of the last season, this Thursday looks promising with the Robot Devel returning.
I thought it was on purpose, but also a well executed joke. The line following it seals that it was funny at least to him.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyI liked the lastest episode; it was fun to see the Robot Devil again.

Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Yeah the last one seemed more return to the classic era. I didn't like the ending line and thought it was kinda awkward way to end, but there were so many great lines, some good old fashioned Accidental Nightmare Fuel, and even some Heartwarming Moments. I don't need to panic about the demise of Futurama after all!
Emperor Wu liked cake, but not exploding cake!I am loving this season so far
I missed it. Anywhere I can watch online?
The sad, REAL American dichotomy
I didn't watch the second episode because I disliked the first so much. I kept expecting it to go somewhere but it was all just cliche gender jokes.
