Tumblr

Scum seems to be a popular tangalong word in Tumblr. Truscum, cisscum, hetscum, femscum, whitescum and so on...

Much like the words "trash" "gross" and other such words, they have little context in racism, sexism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia, etc. etc. so they're easy to use.

Oh, I'd say Truscum is very quickly gaining some strongly transphobic connotations.

in what way?

Scum and trash are pretty nasty insults to throw at people. It's like, they are not meant to simply insult but to degrade and hurt those they are directed at.

I can't believe I am doing this. But tucutes are essentially people who claim that being trans is a choice and that anyone can do it. Some of the vocal ones claim that Truscums are traitors and awful people.

That is what I know so that is far as I can tell is that tucutes are Transtrenders who believe the idea that you can change your gender to anything and have neopronouns are fine.

But that is as far as I can speak about this because I am cis. What I said has been my personal viewing experience and does not match up with everyone else's experience.

Because Trans-people with said "d-word" are often called Truescum by the Tucutes.

That's only half of what they said the "claiming it's a choice and insulting Trans-people who were born that way and say it's not" is the problematic part.

If you want to talk about trans stuff, you should really take it OTC.

Technically we're talking about it in the context of Tumblr's "culture" because it's only on rare occasions this stuff leaks outside it.

I'm at the point where I do kinda want to give and re-rail this mess though.

Wow, since I ragequit, this thread has been really active.

Well, commenting about the whole rant I had before... the whole reason I don't want to be labeled a Feminist is a complicated thing. I would definitely love to have a blog on tumblr dedicated to the cause. But what good will that do? Emma Watson spoke in front of the U.N. Me? The most I did was win LAL back in 2012, and have faded into obscurity since then.

A blog on tumblr isn't going to change the world, at least not from me. So I'm not really shunning the movement, not really. I just don't want to meet any more fringers.

Sounds a lot like me, I've just meant way to much of the crazy fringe to have any desire to claim the label, I have no disrespect for the good ones like Emma Watson and Lauren Faust, but the crazies that seem to have become the loudest part are just horrifying.

If you take that feminism = equality among genders, then most (normal) people are more or less feminists.

The crazies only appear to have taken over the movement because that's all anyone ever talks about. I mean, think how crazy the animal welfare lobby would seem if all anyone talked about was PETA and the Animal Liberation Front. There's a good chance they don't care about women's rights at all, they just want to spread their hate and are co-opting a very important social movement in order to do so to get attention.

My point being, if the crazy militant feminists are out there, they're not going to be on Tumblr. They, like most militants, are likely in a location with only a few computers and no social networking besides MAYBE a Facebook page someone in the back room runs.

The crazyness spreed into SJW because is the internet, if have very diferent way that regular taking and jerkness is the norm in many ways.

It's impossible to discuss "SJW culture" with out getting into a bunch of other more complicated political stuff that New Media isn't really equipped to moderate.

Followed, I love my politics and picking apart games and looking at them through that lens but sometimes it's just nice and refreshing to have a plain old review.
