The backblast fuels his body with hot air lmao

From the way he holds it, it looked more like he's using a Chest Blaster cannon or something.

Say, anybody watch Armored Trooper VOTOMS? Badass show, and love the mech design. I think Doomguy should own one if he ever uses a giant robot. Fits his personality, too.

Yeah, I personally think that the Doom guy wouldn't be out of place in Warhammer 40K, either. He kills demons and can strike fear into the hearts of every demon in Hell.

I keep having the feeling that the Soul Cube and the Hell Artifact from D3 and Resurrection of Evil were used in the making of the Praetor armor.

Well, since Doom's stance in canon is "Everything is Canon" maybe the demon who made/improved the armor got his ingredients from those two artifacts.

Also, I have a feeling Doomguy would fit in better with the Imperial Guards than the Space Marines.

Yes, Doomguy has been called the DOOM Marine, but honestly... fits better standing with the Guards.

Imagine him teaming up with the well known commissars, especially CIAPHAS CAIN.

Imperial Guard are great and all, but you aren't going to be seeing them do what Doomguy does to demons. Dude acts like a Blood Angel under the effects of the Black Rage.

I was under the impression that this was supposed to be prequrl-ish, given that this is explicitly the beginning of the hell invasions and we witnessed the opening of the first proper hell portal.

I do think it's a reboot, because the only Hayden we've seen before wasn't a scientist, he was the leader of the marine garrison in the other games.

It's implied that all the events from the first two Doom games and Doom 64 already happened. And I read somewhere mentioning multiverses in the game (not outright, but implied yet again) so perhaps the Mars he visited is another Mars from another timeline?

Is it possible for the new DOOM to be a prequel, sequel, and reboot all in one?

Also, yeah. The guards can't do what Doomguy could do, but someone has to keep them safe.... well, sort of.

wild mass guess

D2016, D3 and D64 happened simultaneously in separate parts of Hell - Doomguy, Marine, and the Doom Slayer all raced to destroy different parts of Hell's forces, and the Soul Cube made sure the D3 side was properly sealed off - Engineer made the ultimate sacrifice to make sure Betruger could not repair the damage done to the Hell Portal in the D3 area and is the only Doomguy to stay dead, ascending to Heaven after he destroyed the Maledict with the Hell Artifact's power.

The Praetor Suit and the Hell Artifact are made with the same demonic technology, which is why many of their Artifact Powers (Berserk, Invunerable, and Haste) function the same way.

Doomguy Classic stayed in Hell to ensure his side of it would remain unable to invade his homeworld, while Doom Slayer got banished by Hayden into a parallel equivalent of Thy Flesh Consumed, where he will need to fight hard to get to the D2016 Earth to prevent the parallel of Doom 2 from happening there.

wild mass guess

Now I wonder what the D2016 remake of the Unmaker would look and behave like.

I thought it was flat-out stated that this was actually after the first two games? I mean the Slayer articles literally detail Doomguy's (or Doomslayer as the demons call him) rampage through hell. It even says something along the lines of that He killed one of our greatest champions, Titan, now our Champions bones are lining the land.

There was also a mention from USC that the demons were fighting more and more aggressively and desperate once they got closer to Doomguy's tomb....

Maybe hell has nonlinear time. This is Doomguy after Doom I and Doom II, but before the actual events of those games from Mars' perspective.

Well all of the stories in the tablets you find in Hell are about what seems like the war between the Night Stalkers and Hell's demons, and after that the demons sealed up the Doom Marine, and this is before the actual game.

Nothing is actually stated about the Doom Slayer being the same as the Doomguy from Doom 1/2/64 but it's HEAVILY implied it's the same being so it's in the realm of "not technically canon but basically canon"

The Doom Slayer is not the Doom Guy. The lore in the last level makes it pretty explicit that he's a knight from Argent D'nur, and all the fights in the lore dumps - including the one that sealed him in a coffin - happened way before the classic games could've taken place.

I mean, it's more fun to assume that the Doom Guy was sealed in Hell after Doom 64, for sure, but the lore doesn't actually support it.

I think the implication is that yes, Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 64 did happen, it's just that it all involved another planet that wasn't Earth; it's more of a Broad Strokes thing at that point.

Nothing in the lore backs that up, though. I mean, Argent D'nur also had those alien worm things that Hell appropriated to power its... Glowing Sphere Thing of Nebulous Use in the final level - the thing you use the Crucible on the worm things to shut. I'm pretty sure Earth never had any of that - and the classic games are pretty explicitly set on Earth, Mars and our solar system in general.

Really, it's a retelling, not a sequel. Different continuity entirely.

So, I tried giving some Let's Plays a shot with Doom despite never really bothering before. Honestly, not my cup of tea. I'm sure some are better then others but I just had to stop watching Team Fourstars, not because they were terrible at the combat, but their complete lack of exploration. It was annoying the hell out of me. Especially when they missed even the obvious secrets.

On the flip side, watching speed runs is much much more interesting. Partially because of the much higher level of skill partially because them ignoring secrets is intentional, and partially because of all the fun glitches and stuff they abuse to shave time. So far I've only watched one, but its far more entertaining then a normal lets play in my mind. Gauss jumping is apparently ridiculously useful for speedrunning in Doom. The guy basically skips the entirety of most of the levels once he has the Gauss. Apparently NG+ go even faster presumably from having the Gauss from the first level. I might go watch one of those tomorrow.

For reference I watched this speed run, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JvMPMo8INI

The first LP I've watched was that of GaLm, who, for all intents and purposes, is essentially a black Markiplier that had his PDP gland removed. In other words, he has a very (almost uncannily) similar voice and inflection, but none of the irritating schtick Mark displays when acting excited or scared, and also none of his utter incompetence. At any rate, GaLm was very enthusiastic the whole time playing through the game, almost maniacally so at times, and it also helped that he was pretty good at it, so it was a very entertaining LP to watch. Most other Youtubers I've seen, Wanderbots in particular, were treating the game in a rather dispassionate fashion, which made their videos very dull in comparison.

THIS GAME IS FUCKING AWESOME!

It's. So. Perfect.

I usually don't have much respect for shooters. But both the original Doom and Doom 2016 game had a very clear idea of what they wanted to be, and went for it without shame or guilt. Piles and piles of AWESOME. Even Hayden's gig is awesome: exploiting Hell for energy like the oil fields of Texas. That's amazing. And the Doom Guy, he's the most expressive AFGNCAAP I've seen in a long time.

You keep on being awesome, Doom Guy. Rip and tear, until it is done.

Speaking of which, when are we getting a video re-enactment of the Doom Comic?

I started playing it this past week and really like it. I'm actually making an effort to grab every collectible in one run (at least everything that isn't a retro level) too. Thankfully the challenges aren't too difficult.

[up][up]Yeah, and people say silent FPS protangonists can't display emotion? How about this scene, for pure rage?

Just freaking awesome. Doesn't hurt that the game play is like Metroid Prime with more action.

The best part is that Doomguy is completely silent. As in, he literally doesn't have a voice. Not even when he jumps, gets hurt, or dies, as other silent protagonists usually do.

The Doom experience is best described as fighting demons on the cover of a metal album.

What, to RIP AND TEAR? You do do that when you chainsaw something (especially a Mancubus) but otherwise normally there's bone-breaking or just straight-up punching someone's head off.
