I drew a friend of mine's character. I'm really pleased with this one ( and another I might post later) because I think I can see definite improvements from my older drawings.
Be not afraid...Very good pose and proportion.

My protagonist's favorite poster.◊
It's the image from the Black Butler entry on our Awesome Art page, of course. I traced a light, rough pencil sketch of it, then inked it freehand. (Fuck, my hand hurts.)
The reason I put so much effort into something I can't sell, use, or even show up close in the comic is to practice inking for things that actually matter. Basically, I've made a rule that until this project is done, all my practice will contribute towards it. So, instead of drawing random stuff like I used to, I'll do things I can edit into the comic.
Edit: Also, Full website background.◊

Just floating around...Uh...but there isn't a flower in that picture.
Read my stories!I'm pretty sure a Piranha plant is a flower. Of sorts.

More posters, because why not.
- Full Metal Alchemist◊ (This morning)
- Vision of Escaflowne◊ (Sometime last week.)
- Persona 3◊. (Three weeks ago, I think.)
One more and I'll be done with all the ones I need for the first round of pages.
Just like the first one, they were inked freehand over traced pencil sketches. (If anyone wants me to post the originals, I will.)
Also, the characters' eyes being shaded out has an interesting story behind it. About a month ago, I emailed one of Viz's lawyers and asked if re-drawing posters of their properties would be an actionable offense. They said they'd allow it as long as none of the characters' faces were recognizable and the show titles weren't used.

It is. And thank you.
Project progress: The Adroan (102k words), The Pigeon Witch, (40k). Done but in need of reworking: Yume Hime, (50k)That game I'm posting art and vids of, here's a playable demo of it. Main and special attacks are space bar and N. But it's better to use the onscreen buttons with a touch device. Meant for iOS and other devices. Knight is a melee fight and Princess is a mid range shooter type. Let me know what you think of the game.

@Wheezy: ...HOW DID YOU NAIL SHADING SO PERFECTLY WITH JUST LINES DAMMIT.
@Hermie: Very solid style. Pure class.
-grumble grumble general anguished expression of artistic envy-
Anyway, my first experiment with the current art style back in January. Here's where it's gotten to over the past months. Didn't quite nail the hard light/dark contrast I was aiming for, and it feels like there's something off with the background. Any suggestion?

Hatching: Practice shading with just lines a lot. You basically map out the areas you want to fill in, then be very careful to get the right line interval and pen pressure for how dark you want it to be. For crosshatching, complete one "layer" of shading, hatching in one direction, then go back and add another layer of shading. Don't try to crosshatch without completing an area of shadow.
Also, I've found that I can never crosshatch at a 90 degree angle, or else it looks like the object is made of plaid. It has to be at an acute angle to look good.
Also, never improvise when shading with a pen. Never.
As a side note, I find placing patches of black much harder than hatching.
Second drawing: It's awesome the way it is, actually. If you want more contrast, make the trees a bit darker, I guess?

Project progress: The Adroan (102k words), The Pigeon Witch, (40k). Done but in need of reworking: Yume Hime, (50k)Ah, I see. Probably not going to adopt it - I have a hard enough time getting regular pencil shading and straight lines right. But thanks a lot anyway! -hat off-
(Also the vast majority of hatching techniques I've seen involve straight, regular lines exclusively. The non-parallel curves you use look organic and distinctive and nice.)

Echoing hymn of my fellow passerine | Art blog (under construction)eagleoftheninth: I see, and you're welcome. Also, neat Narwhal and Beluga art.
I drew a TON of characters on a page, if you see it, which is your favorite?
They're designs for a new game I'm working on, it won't be a sidescroller like the other game.
It will be RPG like, sort of. But not quite.
If you click on it when the image loads, you can get a closer look at the rough details.
Some of the ink sketches are rough, while other's are a bit refined, but this is the preliminary ink, afterall.

My Twitter!Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Now that's how you garner anticipation. Best of luck getting all of them sprited out! I really dig the diversity in your character designs - the guy at the lower right corner with the faceplate and buckler looks particularly distinctive.
Broccoli? I like the colour palette a lot, and the scene's nicely framed. But maybe you can try out something new with your overall style? There are a thousand ways your art could go from decent to impressive, and I trust you'll find many of them once you start to innovate.

Especially good job on the third one.
