He's beaten the Gwen Neck Snap before. An attempt at recreating the tragedy with another love interest - I want to say Mary Jane, but don't quote me on that - was resolved with him doing a better job on the catch. He monologued internally that he knew it was the whiplash that killed Gwen and has gone over this exact scenario countless times in his head ever since trying to figure out how he could have done it right, so he was prepared when it occurred again.

I know, but the times I've seen him do it it was because he used a shit-ton of web strands so that one wasn't exerting all the force, or gave up using the webbing and dove straight down to catch and swing away. Making the webbing elastic enough to slow someone down like a bungee cord isn't something I've seen him do.

Well, there's a pretty significant downside to that level of elasticity.

Bungee cords work because they are thoroughly measured beforehand. Attempting to use one impromptu in the middle of freefall could easily result in the cord not slowing them down fast enough to keep them from slamming into the ground at terminal velocity, and as the elasticity of the webbing is something that has to be prepared beforehand when he's loading his cartridges, that would leave him with very little flexibility in his options.

Meanwhile, bungee elasticity would ruin everything else he does with the webbing.

Spinnerette appears to be able to determine elasticity as she's spinning the web, which is an advantage that Spider-Man doesn't have.
