"Luffy was Uranus all along!"

I'd've guessed Sanji, since everyone already thinks he's an asshole.

Hey no you don't get to make the Uranus joke now after I resisted saying that Uranus is actually the entrance to the deep bowels of the world.

I noticed that while the three superweapons follow the theme naming of Greek gods, only Poseidon actually uses the Greek name, while the other two use the Roman variants.

wild mass guessI guess Oda thought Poseidon was a better fitting name for a superweapon?wild mass guess

Well...

wild mass guessIf Roger was secretly Uranus, and Sengoku was desperate to end Roger's line to avoid another Uranus in the future, but Luffy inherited Ace's will, then Luffy could very well become Uranus, depending on how inheritance works.wild mass guess

If one of the three weapons was more special than the others, it would be Uranus. Poseidon and Pluton were named after gods, but depending on how nitpicky you are about the myth, Uranus wasn't so much a god as he was the literal sky that fathered the titans who fathered the gods.

Aren't Pluton and Uranus still pretty Greek? They called them Ploutos and Ouranos instead but it's close.

[up]Huh, I stand corrected. I was under the impression that Uranus was the Roman name for Ouranos, and was unaware that Plouton was a euphemistic name for Hades.

So I can't help but think there's a motif of eyes with Ym. Their eyes are the first part of their body we see clearly, and they've clipped out one eye each of Blackbeard and Luffy's pictures, and stabbed Shirahoshi's right in the eye. And that, in turn, reminds me of a... certain major character whose eyes have been deliberately kept mysterious...

I know that's a joke, but the answer is Doflamingo.

[up] So you think there is a connection with Doflamingo and Ym? If so, then what kind? If I were to pull a random theory out of nowhere, I'd guess that the "national treasure" that Doflamingo knows of is the connection.

Don't catch you slippin' now.

Wasn't there someone else in the series with concentric circle irises like Imu's? I could've sworn Mihawk had them in one close-up or another, but I can't find the reference.

Yeah, Mihawk is the other one with similar eyes. Maybe one or two more people, but he's the only one I can remember.

And we've seen Doflamingo's eyes by the way. It was only briefly and in close up, but it's happened. They're just normal eyes.

My wild mass guess that Mihawk is actually Ym incognito doesn't seem as stupid as it did when I first thought of it.

At least, it's not nearly as bizarre as my other wild mass guess: Ym is the queen of the world and Luffy's mother.

It's probably just a coincidence in-universe. Oda was clearly going for a deliberate parallel.

If the celestial dragons are revered as gods in this world, do you think that they were the focus of the Bible that Kuma used to carry around?

I think the only other references to the One Piece world's religion(s?) have been to a "real god" in Skypeia (in contrast to Enel, who everybody knew was just a mortal with a title), and the god that Carmel preached. They may or may not be the same god.

Either way, Kuma's Bible was a neat little bit of character design that I couldn't figure out the significance of right up until these last few chapters. I'm going with the idea that the Bible was for the "real god" and that Kuma carried it as a statement that there is a greater power than the world nobles, even as he was obligated to follow their orders.

Ooh, that reminds me - in Ym's first appearance, when they enter the vault in the depths of Mariejois, we see a cross above the door... thing is, it's not the WG's cross. Instead of circles on the end of its arms, it has a three-pointed prong. And we've seen this design before, at least three times. It's on Oars' loincloth, on a carving that was among the treasures the Straw Hats "stole" from Skypiea, and perhaps most interestingly of all? It's on the church in the "ruined country" that Shanks was attending a wedding at in the "500 Million Man" cover arc.

I hope there isn't a religion dedicated to them, because they act more like agents of Satan.

OmegaRadiance Since: Jun, 2011

Not really. They act like typical Greek Pantheon, or the Cosmic sadist Demiurge and the Archons of Gnosticism that desire for all material life to be subjugated to the physical universe forever.

Demons like the Goetia are just demonized gods of different pantheons anyways, or in the case of Phenex based on mystical birds of reincarnation.

Any Celestial Dragon who has a shred of decency can be saved, but the rest can be the end of the revolution's sword.
